Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Where are they finding money to go after the guys outside the top 10? Especially if they are giving third round money to Cabbage and going overslot to Kendrick? According to MLB, Blankenhorn signed for 104,000 under slot, Robinson for 5,000, and Miller for 28,000. Cabbage however got 243,000 over slot. They don't have all the numbers for the rest of the top 10, but the others they do have are at slot value. Probably not gonna have the dough to coax some of those later HS kids to sign.

The ones that I know for sure that are in camp are Tyler Jay as I talked to him and got him on video saying hi to everyone out there. I also got 5 minutes of his side session work. Anthony Mciver, a big lefty who throws above his head. I also saw Max Cordy pitch his end of side session but only got his last two pitches on video. In Mciver's video there is a lefty draftee pitching (to video right) and threw hard with good stuff, I believe that was Vasquez.
Jeremy Nygaard Twins Daily Contributor Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Moran is the only of the Top 10 not done (either official or only in agreement). The Twins are $174,900 under slot. In theory, you could offer 5th-ish round money to one of your unsigned guys. It's just me - and I know he said he's going to Fullerton - but I think Eastman is the guy that gets it.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Does that amount include the amount the Twins could go over without penalty?

I could not find any info on this guy.Could someone attach a link if you find something?I got nothing on him other than he pitched a few times in showcases back in 2010 season and was hitting 92mph regularly. He's not listed on Delaware's roster and in fact the only thing that even comes up on him is the swimming coach at Delaware is "John Hayman". If you really want to know, I"ll try hunting him down tomorrow or Saturday and try to get a background on him.

Kid looks very hitterish especially compared to the rest of the youngsters in GCL. Callis tweeted that the Twins signed 6th rounder Paul for 50K so that freed up about 240k.Then he should be at the complex sometime soon (if he isn't already), I still haven't seen him, Cody, or Kendrick on the premises.
jokin Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Bryant Hayman 6'2" 240#s HR 13 Slash .359/.439/.635/(1.075) K% 15% BB% 10.4% I'm thinking he's going to lead the GCL team in many offensive categories, plus he's a college senior. The call of Hayman's life came last week as well, as he received a free agent offer from the Minnesota Twins. The four-year catcher for Valdosta State joined Chase Blackwood as the second Blazer catcher in the last six years to receive a free agent offer from a MLB organization. Blackwood signed with the Chicago White Sox in 2009."When I think of Bryant Hayman, I think of consistency," said Todd Guilliams. "He's a four time First Team All-GSC player who did the same thing this year that he's always done for us. He hit double digit home runs each year, and his body of work offensively says a lot about the type of player he is. Plus, he's big and strong behind the plate and has a cannon for an arm."In addition to Hayman's presence on the field, the senior, also provided a leadership presence with the team that the Blazers and the coaching staff will certainly miss."They nicknamed him 'Happy' for a reason," added Todd Guilliams. "He's a man of faith that came in every day with a smile on his face. He loves to play, he showed up early every single day for us, and he was conscientious in the classroom. The guys loved him, and I'm going to miss the fact that he was an energy giver and not an energy sapper." Sounds like the perfect fit and role for an organizational guy. But probably not too many D-II Catchers who end up helping at the major league level.
Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I know Cody was rumored to have signed, but he is still listed as unsigned on the Twins draft page, along with Paul and Moran from the top 10. Anyone know anything about it?
DJSim22 Provisional Member Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 So no change they sign Sawyer? Bummer.
Jeremy Nygaard Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Paul's absence was due to a prolonged physical. I had the $50K bonus in the Draft Handbook, it was just a matter of time before it became official. Never any concerns from either side. Kendrick had mono, so he was sent home. He game back to the Fort Myers last Friday and had his first workout on Saturday. Moran is done. Signed yesterday. He got more than slot, but less than $300K. (Don't have exact figure.) Wiel is done. Will play a couple games in the GCL before going to E-Town. Cody had something come up in his physical. So he's currently back in class in Kentucky (from what I understand). From what I can tell, both sides would like to come to an agreement, but I would have a hard time believing he would get anywhere near $800K. If he doesn't get signed, the Twins will get pick #74 in next year's draft. If he comes in closer to the $400-500K range, I would guess the Twins use that savings to sign Kyle Wilson.

Jeremy Nygaard Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Thanks for the updates. Bummer about Cody. It would be nice if they could agree on something under slot then go hard after Wilson. I feel like that is the hope. It sounds like there is an offer out to Cody and he'll spend the weekend mulling it over. Purely speculative, but I'm guessing it's between $400-500K. If he takes it - and it's not like he's guaranteed to get more next year - that would leave the Twins around $500K to spend. They could offer two guys $350K each. Gut feel says those guys are Wilson and Engelmann.

Huge gamble for him to go back to school too because as a fourth-year senior, he has no leverage. For the Twins, getting a potential power arm for a half-million less than slot allows them to sign 2-3 high school guys from later who otherwise wouldn't have signed. sounds perfect.
