Nice games from Buxton and Grossman. Expect you are right and Grossman will be at Target Field today. Best to let Buxton have another ten days to feel real good and then bring him up on September 1. Arraez has not hit for an average under .309 in his career. After a slow couple weeks following his promotion, he has his average at AA over .300 (over .400 in August and today is the 19th). No reason to expect he will have anything other than a lot of multi-hit games the rest of the season. This also appears to answer any question about his going on the 40-man and his future with the Twins. Only question for me is when? This year's first and second picks are both doing well at Cedar Rapids, but the shining star appears to be Helman. Highly unlikely he can continue hitting .422, but what a pleasant surprise. Or is it? Great seeing Duran come back with another fantastic outing. Maybe someone at the Strib should forward the box score to Patrick Reusse.

Fort Myers and the Kernels are in first by a hair, ETon has a comfortable lead late in the season. The GCL Twins and Red Sox are tied, well, kind of because the Red Sox are up 4-0 in the 7th inning of their suspended game. And they play each other in 5 of their 8 remaining games, including the suspended game from yesterday. I guess their playoff run has begun! The AA and AAA clubs haven't had great seasons, but the lower five are all in the playoff hunt. That includes the DSL Twins who at 45-20 are tied for first with a week to play.

Article: MIN 5, DET 4: Take a Bow, Joe
rdehring replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
One of the reason for signing free agents is to be able to flip them for prospects in July. Not something we did much of prior to this year, but they did a great job in the last month with Lynn, Duke and Rodney. -
Article: Getting the Twins Bullpen Right for 2019
rdehring replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good topic for discusion, Nick. And I agree it could be the key to whether or not the Twins compete next year. Am so happy getting May back and looking good. Got to believe he can be one of three top rated late inning guys a successful team needs. Could Duffey be another? One thing I didn't understand is why you would even mention Lewis Thorpe in this article? He is and will remain a starter, hopefully for a long time with the Twins.- 36 replies

Great seeing Buxton hitting at Rochester. Also good seeing Arraez get 2 hits after three games with only 1 hit....total. Hopefully Fort Myers can keep winning. Good seeing Miranda and Rortvedt contribute. No need to mention AK as he has become automatic, day-after-day. Almost the same for Jeffers. Is Prelander Berroa someone we should be high on? Speaking of young unknown players, what do you guys have on Luis Gomez. I know he is a 17 year old shortstop from the D.R. who is the top hitter for the DSL Twins. Was he a big dollar sign a year ago?

Article: What To Do With Logan Forsythe?
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I see him as their second option for second base next year. The first is resigning Escobar. Let his agent know they have interest and come back to him if Mighty Mouse signs elsewhere.- 100 replies

You all know that I too am on the Thorpe bandwagon. It started for me back when he was 16 (or was it 17) and pitching in the Australian Winter League. Remember checking his stats every game he started. If memory serves, he had the second best ERA in the league up until the last game or two of the winter when he had a couple normal starts. And all the other numbers, K, BB, WHIP supported his excellent ERA. Was Seth psychic the other day with his post on the 2016 draft. Very good night for Miranda and Rortvedt along with AK's monster. And the #11 pick is also settling in very nicely, Tyler Benninghoff. That pick was the type of move that really good organizations make, great to start seeing the results after his TJ rehab.

Wells was drafted in 2016, so he doesn't need to be added to the 40-man until after next year. Expect that eliminates any chance he is called up this September. Gotta believe Gonsalves has cemented his name on the list of September call ups. Bigger question is whether or not he gets any starts? With less than 20 games remaining, Fort Myers and Cedar Rapids need winnings streaks...stop these nights where both are losing. Highlights of the night for me were good games from De La Torre and Miranda. And add Byron Buxton to that list. What a night for him getting back into the 'swing' of things. Let him play every other day for a week before getting regular work for a week before the season end and his call up to the Twins. They really need this guy anchoring that outfield...on to 2019!

When I look at last night's box scores, Seth, I see two players who had good nights and aren't in your Top 21...for good reasons. But I suspect both, Griffin Jax and Michael Helman, are going to be in the discussion for good rankings this next off-season. Do you think either is deserving of Top 20 status? Or are they more likely to be in the 20's or even 30's? I don't do rankings anymore and after all these trades am glad I don't. So many players one would think should be in the teens or twenties, probably more than spots will be available for. Speaking of ratings, will you be including guys from the DSL like Anthony Escobar or Victor Heredia and the center fielder from Venezuela they signed for big money?

Article: Week in Review: Stumbling and Grumbling
rdehring replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Rodney's arrow didn't bother me. What did was all the base runners he put on base nearly every time out. Sounds like Santana is guaranteeing he will be a free agent this winter. With comments like that, I can't see how the FO would exercise their option. Although his pitching/comeback from surgery may make a bigger case for that. Personally, I am looking forward to the next six weeks of Twins baseball. Want to see; 1) Garver get more experience behind the plate; 2) Austin getting lots of at bats; 3) Polanco finishing his half year at short and in the batters box; 4) Sano prove that the last year was an aberration; 5) Rosario finishing out what should have been an all-star season; 6) Buxton back in a Twins uniform and getting on base; 7) Kepler continuing his progress; 8) several young starters pitching at the beginning of games; and 9) A good look at several relievers late in games...May, Busenitz, Reed, Moya, Curtiss...others?- 63 replies

For those of you with Media Com cable. They have an Iowa based sports channel they include here in the Twin Cities (MC-22). Last night they had a replay of Saturday's Quad Cities vs. Cedar Rapids game. Was the first time I have seen Balazovic pitch. Physically, he looks like a pitcher with a plus curve ball and mid-90's fast ball. Have liked what I have read about him all year. Like him more after watching the game last night. Also got to see all those Kernels hitters whack the ball around the Quad Cities ballpark. In the mid-innings, Helman got on with a solid single, stole second, went to third on an overthrow and scored on a sac fly. Really liked how he plays.

Miranda is settling in nicely in Fort Myers with a 3 game hitting streak (out of 4 games) and his first multi-hit game last night. Nice starts by Gonsalves, Wells, Graterol and Cabezas. Where did Cabezas come from? Will second the above comments about Helman. He just keeps hitting and is now doing it at Cedar Rapids. Can't continue, can it? And how about Ricky De La Torre? This kid is known for his glove, yet, is having a real nice season at the plate.

Article: BREAKING: Twins Trade Rodney To A's
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
One problem is the surgery. He won't be back until when, mid season? Drafted in 2015, we will need to add him to the 40-man following next year. That doesn't give the Twins a lot of time to judge whether he is deserving. -

Good seeing Kennys Vargas have a game like last night. Expect he is excited to see what team he can sign with over the winter. A team that hopefully will give him a real chance to get 450-500 big league at bats. I have always believed that he can be a solid major league bat...if ever given a real opportunity. And isn't it exciting seeing Thorpe pitch like this as he crosses the +30% innings mark. I see Thorpe, along with Romero, as the next big adds to the Twins rotation, probably starting sometime next year. Another nice 2 hit game for Arraez, but Wiel had 3! I know everyone is excited to see Gordon get 3 hits, but Rortvedt was also 3-4 and all 3 of his were doubles. What a great opening night for Larnach, but Helman also had 3 hits and is now 5-9 in his two games with the Kernels. With all the shiny new toys in the system, we tend to forget about toys that were new last winter. Last night's grand slam is a reminder that Jacob Pearson is having an excellent first full season in the organization.

Article: Twins Daily Roundtable: Prospect Promotions
rdehring replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Have discussed this before, but the fact Rooker doesn't need to be added to the 40-man this year probably keeps him out of the discussion. Is he worthy of a look, probably. But by adding him to the 40-man means you aren't adding someone else. And that someone, say Jay, Stewart, Wade, Arraez, could very likely be gone. Considering they also have Austin probably joining the team, really no need to call-up Rooker to play the same positions.- 52 replies
