  1. Why are so many saying we have nothing at 2B, SS and 3B? Polanco had a tremendous last couple months of 2017 and is doing a good job since returning in early July. Whether he is at 2B or SS the next few years, certainly has earned the right to be at one of them.
  2. I think they keep putting him out there for most of the month. Try to stretch him out to at least 125+ innings (currently at 103). That would be four more starts. Maybe they begin to pull him earlier in the game, although last night he went to 99 pitches. If they get 125+ this year, he will be on track for 160 or so next year when some of those innings should be at Target Field.
  3. Nick Gordon hasn't earned the right to be called up. Although he may come up in September, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get the call then either.
  4. Rooker and Wiel continue to mash at Chattanooga. Rooker's performance is kind of special considering he was drafted less than 14 months ago. Meanwhile, Luis Arraez has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games with two multi hit games in his last three. Hitting .342 over that 10 game stretch tells me he is making the adjustment to AA and must be considered a candidate for the Twins second base spot by 2020, if not sometime next year. Lewis Thorpe had a solid, if not great, outing last night. I see he has pitched about 25% more innings than last year. Will his arm begin to tire and he will be less dominant as the innings build? I see they worked Raley into the Lookouts lineup in right field with Wiel at first and Rooker in left.
  5. I was thinking while reading this report, Seth, that I had read that Ober was on the DL. When reading about him and the elbow, my only comment was BAH HUMBUG! Hopefully, with one TJ surgery behind him, that isn't what's going on this time. What didn't compute for me was Wells 3.52 ERA and 0.78 WHIP. Didn't go back and look, but must have been a couple of home runs in there some where. And some really nice performances by that HM group. Why do you think we haven't seen Gonsalves at Target Field, Seth? Has it been the walks?
  6. Expect this is another case of Buxton and the Twins trying to get him back on the field to soon. That happened with the toe, expect the wrist felt ok and wasn't. Does Jax deserve a spot in the top 20 is an interesting question. Would have thought yes, until the last week made getting into the Twins Top 20 a lot more difficult. Really like Lt. Jax, but maybe 20 something is more appropriate. (I assume Jax is a 1st LT, although going thru the Academy he could be a CPT...does anyone know?) Did you know, Seth, that yesterday's runs were the first earned runs allowed in Navas' career. Including last year in the DSL, Navas had appeared in 14 games without allowing an earned run. We are frequently seeing the name Erick Rivera in these reports. This year's 14th round pick out of Puerto Rico looks to be a good pick, especially considering he is only 17 years old.
  7. Very interesting. I also heard something last night when he was asked about August waiver trades. Sounded like he was both positive about doing one and that it may not be the norm, ie, we get someone like Santana thru waivers and trade him for cash and that PTBNL. After reading your comment, got thinking that maybe they trade someone like Santana together with a good prospect for a very good prospect closer to being ready, maybe AA. Prospect leaving could be one of ours or one of those we just acquired. We have upgraded both the quantity and quality of the organization. Maybe they will focus on upgrading more quality this month.
  8. Looking at what Miranda and Gryz did and they weren't in the Top 5? What a month. It took Jeffers what, five games to adjust to the Midwest League. Will he rise fast thru the organization, Seth? Or will his defense slow his progress a bit? With the first baseman coming over from the Dodgers yesterday, how will he fit with the rotation between Rooker and Wiel? [am assuming he goes to AA]
  9. I agree, Steve. I like these new guys. One thought I had this morning is that the recent acquisition of two 1st basemen spells the end of Kennys Vargas run with the organization. Always liked him and would have liked to see what he could have been had he gotten 450-500 at bats for the Twins. And is Austin a better fit with Mauer next year than Morrison? [i am assuming Joe signs for another year or two] One player from this year's draft that keeps catching my eye is Michael Davis. How did he last to the 24th round of this year's draft? I am not concerned with how Benninghoff does this year, just glad to see him taking the ball every five days.
  10. Maybe. But both guys are at AA and if either makes it, will be here in two years or so. The comp pick could easily be 5 years out or longer.
  11. Yet, his playing defense had nothing to do with this year's injuries. The migraine is something he lives with. Then he fouled a ball off his toe. And his last hand injury came while at bat, didn't it? Nothing reckless with any of these.
  12. This week is kind of like waking up on Christmas morning with lots of presents under the Christmas tree. Probably should thank Santa Falvine for all these new toys. Watching all these new prospects is sure going to make the next month interesting. Great seeing Jeffers with that big game last night. Looked at Miranda's numbers the last ten games. Not only is he on fire, he has walked (4) more times than he struck out (3).
  13. We also should be looking at what the Twins traded away. They gave up 2 months of Escobar and a year + 2 months of Pressley (that's right, isn't it?). Getting four prospects in return with all four in their Top 20...plus another kid that's ripping the cover off the ball his first two games. I view that as a good return. Will any of them pan out? We'll know in four or five years. That's the unfortunately part, this is a long term investment.
  14. Good point, Seth. But after checking, he only pitched 3.2 innings before June 11 this year. So I expect that he would have had nearly the same number of innings in EST this year. Not trying to debate the specifics, rather wondering if he is hitting that time when some pitchers get a tired arm?
  15. After a brief slump (2 games in 1 day with only 1 hit in each), good seeing Kirilloff back in the saddle. Also good seeing Arraez batting average climbing ever so slightly (now almost .250) after making that tough jump to AA. Has only been 22 games. Is he getting comfortable so yesterday's multi hit game becomes his norm? Has only been 5 games, but Jeffers has found hitting in Cedar Rapids much more difficult than at Elizabethton. Let's hope he breaks out real soon. Sticking with the Kernels, see that Balazovic has already pitched about 13% more innings than either of his first two professional seasons. After some real nice starts, wonder if he is facing that 'tired arm' condition the last two times out?
  16. So much information, tarheeltwinsfan, thanks. And it makes me feel much better about the organization after hearing some of the things you talked about. I don't know how long they have been doing most of these things, but there is no question they are taking good care of these young men.
  17. As I was reading this, was thinking about Trevor May. And wondering what the Twins plan is for him. With 2 innings last night and the 'starting' role recently, are they getting him ready to be a starter? When will they bring him back to Target Field? Gotta face major league hitters before next spring? Enjoyed the video of De La Trinidad. Didn't realize how small he is. Great start for Graterol. But also another real nice appearance by Moran. Took a look and was astonished by his last 10 games (21.2 innings). Only 2 earned runs with 29 strikeouts and only 1 walk...yes, 1 walk and 9 hits is a WHIP below 0.50. Also, no need to worry about Enlow and the strikeouts. The kid is barely 19 and pitching in A ball.
  18. Lets stay positive, sftwinsfan. The starting second baseman next year is going to be Eduardo Escobar. Will believe, or maybe hope for, that until the ink is dry on his signature on a contract for someone else.
  19. In a perfect world, Sano would have stayed in Rochester for several weeks/months. Or until he really started mashing the ball. But, we don't live in a perfect world. I hope that Sano can make noticeable progress the remainder of this season, then work hard over the winter so that he has an excellent spring training and really brings it come opening day. I really want him to be playing at the top of his game next summer so the Twins can trade him for a boatload of value. He just has too many question marks to be part of my team...long-term. The bigger question is who plays third when Sano needs a day off or DH's? I imagine it is Adrianza. But what if Dozier is also traded? Could we actually see Rosario playing some third base? Made one of the better plays I have seen in a long time last night.
  20. Losing Escobar is a real hit in the gut for me. One of my favorite Twins. A young man who was a real asset to the organization, on the field, in the clubhouse and in the community. The FO will make my day, hell make my winter, if they can figure out a way to get him back next winter...although I suspect that is a long shot! But is it realistic to expect the Twins to make the playoffs this year...no. So this move, and others to come, are the correct decisions for management. Doesn't mean we have to be happy about it.
  21. Isn't it great seeing Buxton back on a baseball field. Hopefully, he can get back up here in ten days or a couple weeks. Gotta get he and Sano ready for 2019. Is going to be interesting, Seth, to see where all these new guys fit into the organization. And with three new outfielders, who will lose playing time? Considering the way he has been playing the last month or two, doubt it will be Baddoo. And I'll second everything FormerMinnasotan said about Thorpe. Is it possible he stays in Chattanooga for another month, then gets a call up to the Twins for September? After all he is on the 40-man. Work a few games out of the bullpen and maybe make a start or two? Would be great exposure for when he comes up to stay next April or spring. And thanks for adding Miranda to the prospect summary. Will be back in the morning to read about today's games. Should be an exciting day with Graterol and Enlow both on the mound.
  22. Great article, Seth. Recall EP, high school and legion, being my son's big rival back when he was playing ball. Excelsior did well against them, although that was 10 years before Bray was on that great team. Remember hearing lots about them in those back-to-back Legion Series. Do you recall what the Twins gave up to get him? Was it one of those $X trades?
  23. I think Garver is meeting our hopes. He was projected to be a decent hitter, for a catcher, who needed work defensively. Isn't that exactly what he has been? His bat began the season so-so, but as he has gotten more at bats he is doing a good job at the plate. And as for Kepler, we always have known that he would take a bit longer to develop because of his baseball background in Germany. Will he become the 5-tool star most of us hope for? That remains to be seen, but I wouldn't call him a disappointment. At least not yet.
  24. Recall stories about he and Sano working out in the morning, then going fishing in the afternoon. Both missed a big chunk of that year. And thanks for a great article, Nick. Enjoyed reading a positive take on where the Twins can be a couple years down the road.
  25. Nice night for Kirilloff and Grz. Also, real nice outing for Landon Leach. Didn't go back to look at each game last year, but this was probably the longest start of his career. And with no earned runs, probably his best. As for the Kirilloff discussion, my prediction is he stays at Fort Myers before going to the AFL with Rooker.
