  1. 10 of his 12 earned runs at Rochester were in his first three games nearly two months ago. He hasn't allowed a run since returning from the DL last month. What I find most interesting is that he hasn't been pitching every day or two. More like every four or five days. Although only going a couple innings at a time, are they getting him into a routine so that he can be starting games by late August?
  2. Sano is getting lots of hits, but is also striking out a lot (back-to-back games with 2). Is Grz beginning another streak where he is hot, hot, hot? After a few games in the GCL last year, this kid sure is making an impression.
  3. Was talking about Bechtold, Seth, when I said that you and others had talked about his defense as being 'awesome.'
  4. Same thought I had about Sano, Bjames. I have been more critical of Stewart than most here for the last couple years. Wanted to see him get it done on the field before getting excited about him again. When I saw his performance yesterday, thought maybe he is turning it around. Checked his last ten starts, saw that he gave up 5 or more runs in four of them. Guess that time isn't yet here. And there still is room on the Miranda bandwagon for those who haven't jumped on board yet. But speaking of Kernels third basemen, what about Bechtold. Hasn't gotten the hype that Miranda has, but has hit for about a .300 average since June 1. And Seth and others tell us that his defense at third base is awesome. Certainly should keep his name on the list of those we need to watch closely. And what a nice day for two 19-year old starters, Balazovic and Benninghoff. Has to be especially encouraging for Benninghoff after missing all of his draft year and almost all of last year following surgery. Could turn out to be another real smart move for this front office. That 2016 draft could turn out to be real special and may put them over the top four or five years from now. Why can't baseball be like all those other sports where you can get a return on draft picks the year they are drafted?
  5. Talked Bonnie into coming home from shopping so I could watch Berrios vs. Archer. Really enjoyed the first three innings. After that, I really don't know what happened, other than it was ugly, really ugly! From what I read this morning, Slegers didn't tell the staff about his sore shoulder until Friday. Gotta wonder if it was bothering him during his last start? He isn't the answer to what they need to get back in the playoffs, but is a good starter to have at AAA for spot starts...at least until he becomes a free agent and signs elsewhere.
  6. There was another pitching performance yesterday, Seth, that may have been better than Enlow. Anthony Escobar threw 5 no-hit innings for the DSL Twins, striking out 4 and walking only one. This young 17-year old has an excellent 1.24 ERA with a 0.64 WHIP in 43.2 innings with 37 K's and only 7 walks. Escobar clearly is the top pitcher for this exciting team that has a 25-11 record.
  7. Great to see Lewis move up. Plenty of season left for him to settle in to Hi A ball. Expect he will go thru an adjustment period similar to what Kirilloff has been doing. Can't say enough about Severino. I know a lot of prospects have put up big numbers at ETon, but this kid should be mentioned right along with them. Also great seeing both Enlow and Jax have very good nights on the mound. Gonsalves seems to be on track for spending September in the Twin Cities, well most of it.
  8. As I read this, Seth, I was thinking Derek Jeter. Interesting that you also made that comment. Was also thinking about your mention of 15 years. It has been that long? Absolutely love this top 3. Gotta believe they match up with the top 3 of any organization in baseball. Now to keep them healthy and get them to the big leagues. On the flip side, #4 and #5 have been somewhat disappointing this year. Both their performances and prospects for the future. Maybe they can pick it up the last six weeks of the season.
  9. After seeing that in the box score last night, I was looking to come here and find the answer. Was it an injury? Or something else...like maybe he is being called up for Sunday's game? I view Thorpe as the best starting pitching prospect in the organization who is close (Graterol is the best prospect, in my opinion). With so many injuries this year, the Twins can't take another hit like a serious injury would be to Thorpe. And an injury to Buxton too last night? Maybe everything will realign next year after this year from h.....
  10. And suspense builds for the Top 5. Will Kirilloff surpass Gordon as the second best position player? Or maybe even move above Lewis? Who will be the #1 pitcher, Gonsalves or Graterol? I am anxious to see what you have for us.
  11. Its great seeing Moran getting a promotion and immediately stepping in and putting up zeroes. Maybe he will be one reliever who actually pans out and gets it done for the Twins a couple years from now. Am ready to jump on the Yunior Severino bandwagon when it comes around. This kid looks like a great signing. Thanks to the Atlanta Braves!
  12. Like this group. It really hurts when Javier sits out the entire year, especially after missing almost all of his first year back in the DSL. Twins gotta get him out on the diamond next year. Expect there will be lots of comparisons between Larnach and Rooker over the coming years. Really like what Rooker has done at AA so far this year. Will Larnach match his production? Exceed it? Or not? Like many, I question whether Littell is going to make it. But that is somewhat based on his two rocky outings for the Twins. As mentioned above, the circumstances weren't ideal. Maybe he will get a chance in September to settle in and get some innings so everyone can see what he's got.
  13. I believe one of the last three games he only pitched an inning or two before being removed after a rain delay. One real short start out of three games really affects the numbers. I will agree that he often pitches a bit less than one would like. I think part of that is the high number of strikeouts combined with them keeping his pitch count at 90 or less. Expect they are still being careful after missing two full seasons a couple years ago.
  14. But several of these teams, Cedar Rapids for example, are very young. Expect that is one of the reasons for the records. And most are right around .500.
  15. I usually don't object to your rankings. But having Thorpe at #14, which is a drop of 2 spots since last winter is a mistake, a BIG mistake. Read the third paragraph of your description and tell me how he could move down 2 spots. And baseball just selected him for the futures game and you dropped him 2 slots. Yes, he had one absolute clunker a while ago. But this kid belongs in the Top 10, not next winter, now!
  16. Yes, there is a chance. Say we sweep KC and take 3 of 4 from Tampa going into the break. That puts us 4 games under .500 and probably within 7+/- of Cleveland. Unfortunately, there are two problems with that. One, the break may break our momentum and we come back cold. The second is that it gives the team hope when I really doubt we will make the playoffs and would be better off long-term by selling a few parts later this month. What will they do?
  17. Great seeing Zander Wiel back on the field. Seems like he picked up right where he left off before the injury. Another great story this season from someone few of us expected. We continue to see Grz' name in these reports. With Rortvedt moving up, he hasn't been behind the plate a lot. But certainly seems like someone who has a chance to make it. Gotta love these guys that come out of nowhere.
  18. I really like this group. And will repeat Thrylos' comment that this system just might be loaded. If Arraez begins to hit at AA like he did in June at Fort Myers, look out. Am more in line with Seth as far as where Diaz should be ranked. But Pearson, Jeffers and Severino really strengthen this organization. And all were brought on board in the last six months, or so.
  19. As Vargas' bat heats up, I have to believe he would be more productive than Morrison. And after three games to get settled into AA, Arraez gets a 3 hit game. Really is one of the better stories from the organization this year. Yesterday was Thorpe-Jax-Balazovic. Today its Romero-Graterol. Graterol's start wasn't perfect, but the kid is only 19 and pitching at Hi-A. Is it realistic to expect/hope that at least two, or three, of these kids can develop into top line starters for the Twins? Speaking of 19 year olds, there are four young men at Cedar Rapids who are either 19 or just turned 20...Baddoo, Pearson, Lewis and Miranda. Its going to be fun watching this group move up the ladder, hopefully, all the way to the Twins in 2-3 years.
  20. Was really looking forward to last night when I saw that Thorpe-Jax-Balazovic were all starting. They sure came through with 20 strikeouts (8-7-5) with only 2 walks (0-0-2). Thorpe had a short start (4.2 ip), but that happens to him fairly often as a result of a high number of strikeouts. Really like seeing Jax with a quality start and Balazovic just seems to be someone we really have to keep our eyes on. Like seeing Arraez get some hits while he settles in to AA. And if Rooker keeps this up he is going to force the Twins to do something. And who is this Williams guy? Isn't he the guy they signed way under slot for $10,000? Also curious why Keirsey, who is hitting .340, has been in the bottom third of the order?
  21. The results. Pitching in a very difficult situation while on leave from active duty, his results were very good. Sure got my attention.
  22. I know lots of us have been down on Garver much of this year. But he played very little last fall, so this is his rookie season. The improvements I am seeing tell me he can be a serviceable member of a good MLB team. Probably can hit relatively well with a bit of power. Hopefully, a year or two down the road he will also give us average defense. Perhaps he splits time with Castro next year, then plays two-thirds of the games in 2020 when Rortvedt is breaking into the league. Also like what I am seeing from Cave. Another good pick up by the front office this spring. This year has been more than disappointing, yet, it appears they are doing a lot to strengthen the organization. Long term moves like improving scouting, minor league coaching, off the field issues like diet and training, and most of all organizational depth. What's the saying, "Rome wasn't built in a day." Maybe it is the same with a major league organization.
  23. Great seeing Enlow have a very good start. With his plus curveball, a bit surprised he had only 3 strikeouts. But seeing him do well at Cedar Rapids is very encouraging. Also good to see Wade performing, well like Wade, at AAA. Gotta believe he will be with the Twins sometime this year, perhaps in September. With Arraez taking the big step to AA, will be watching closely to see if he can settle in and hit like he has throughout his career. If he can, the Twins have their lead off hitter for much of the next decade. And this Pearson kid just keeps hitting. Getting to the point that it is no longer a small sample. Nice pickup by the front office last winter, real nice.
  24. Agree that most years there are several prospects many of us fear losing and they aren't selected. However, just last year we lost Chargois, Bard and Burdi. Bard came back, but Burdi was stashed on the 60-day DL. Chargois has been effective with the Dodgers and could have helped this bullpen...should they have used him. When I look at the players available this November, I question if they will have enough room to protect all that are real prospects. Thus, the concern for adding Rooker later this year...although I will agree the experience would be valuable.
