  1. 2 starts for Turley. 1 start and 2 relief appearances for Wilk. Last straw? Really? I would give Turley one more start and if he bombs again, try him in the pen for a couple weeks. If that doesn't work out, then move on. This season is the first time he's had any success above A ball really. It's not unreasonable to believe that his indy league coaches had him try something new. It's worth a brief audition to see if it plays at the MLB level. Don't give a hill of beans about Wilk. He's almost 30 and has never been that good even at AAA.
  2. I'm not sure that's a promise that can be kept. At some point, Buxton is going to have to hit like a MLB player to keep his job. Other than a couple weeks in May and a couple more last September, he never really has.
  3. I tend to believe that if there were quality pitchers available that fell into the Twins price range (in terms of pieces to give up to get them) that those deals would have been made already.
  4. Overreact much? "Helpless" at the plate is a guy who is striking out a lot. Polanco has 5 strikeouts in 31 June at bats. So, on balls put in play, he is 5 for 26. Appears to be more likely a small run of bad luck to me. Byron Buxton has struck out 15 times in 52 June at bats. He's been helpless at the plate for nearly all of his MLB career.
  5. If the Sox sweep the Twins, the Twins would likely be 1/2 game ahead of last in the division. Sure, Santana and Berrios give them a chance. But this team couldn't hit their way out of a paper bag right now.
  6. Here's the list of free agent starters. If, by some act of stupidity or stubborness, Arrietta isn't extended, he's going to go where the money is best. That ain't going to be Minnesota. http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/free-agents/starting-pitcher/ So, who among the rest, piques your interest? None really pique mine other than Pineda - who is also likely to be extended prior to October.
  7. It wasn't a bad play in that situation. Miller would have had an easier time tagging a running Rosario than beating him to the bag. There are times when it makes sense. Usually, when a tag is in play - as it was there.
  8. Wow. Just wow. Two crap calls end the game.
  9. Seriously, Rosario is the most brain dead baserunner in MLB. Escobar was going to score easy there.
  10. If Mejia had started game one, Busenitz would have had to have been sent down after game one to make room for Wilk.
  11. Maybe not as a starter, but I think he'll stick around with the team even if it is in a part time or reserve role. Of course, being a lefty (just like Kepler and Granite and Wade) makes him also a less than ideal reserve given the probable starters.
  12. For the infamous player to be named or cash. A's are also sending $ 2 mil to cover Plouffe's salary.
  13. Wimmers is the 26 th man for both games. If indeed Busenitz is activated (he hasn't been so far), he would likely replace Wilk on the 25 man.
  14. Rosario will likely be in left field until he becomes too expensive for his productivity. More than likely, that will be after his second arbitration season. So, after the 2020 season. Rosario is basically a replacement level player. So, you play him while he's cheap and replace him when he stops being cheap. The most likely candidate is LaMonte Wade. He figures to be more than ready by 2020.
  15. I don't think that is how it would work. If he were ready, I'm pretty sure he would be allowed to be added as the 26th man straight from the DL. I certainly would see no reason why that wouldn't be allowed. It's a moot point. He isn't ready nor apparently will Haley be anytime soon.
  16. But we discuss the history of Grand Forks? Okay. Noted for future reference.
  17. Who are these better pitchers that you apparently believe were just sitting around waiting for the Twins to call? Just to reiterate, the top free agent starting pitcher this past offseason was Bartolo Colon. It's not like releasing Hughes was a realistic option. With him ending last season on the DL, I'm not even sure it was a "legal" option. It's really somewhat irrelevant how effective Hughes was or how lucky. Given his contract status, he was going and IS going to be in the rotation as long as he is physically able to pitch at all.
  18. Damn. Not sure what to think about Turley. He lacks movement on his pitches. Hard to figure out how that explains his K per 9 in AAA. The Indians are just teeing off on him.
  19. I'm not discarding them. The post I replied to said that it was OBVIOUS that Hughes should not have been in the rotation to start the season. He had a serviceable first month. So, how exactly was it obvious? PS: You have yet to respond to the rest of the post. What was the alternative?
  20. Ok. So Bert just said Mejia in game one. I'M SO CONFUSED!!!
  21. Good to know I'm not entirely crazy.
