  1. IMO Belisle and Wimmers can both be DFA. Next!!! At some point maybe it will be Busenitz or Hildenberger. There aren't many left down there to try. Edit: Rochester is off today. Hildenberger threw over 30 pitches Sunday. Busenitz just 15.
  2. No really, he can't be. Wimmers does not have the ability to get MLB hitters out with any kind of regularity. 25 pitches already and he's gotten 3 outs.
  3. I think we fans need to stop making excuses for Belisle. It's entirely likely that a 3 run (or more) meltdown in less than 1 IP every couple weeks is simply who he is now. He's already had 4 such outings. What's the point of keeping a guy that you have zero confidence to use in any kind of close game? It's time to cut bait.
  4. Lachlan Wells made his most recent start on Saturday June 10th, as the Miracle hosted the Tampa Yankees. Another fairly regarded lefty prospect was Wells' mound opponent: Ian Clarkin, who was the Yankees first round pick in 2013. Wells managed to get through the first inning unscathed in this start! Indeed, an infield grounder was sandwiched between two first inning strikeouts. In the bottom of the first, Nelson Molina hit a grand slam to give Fort Myers a 4-0 lead. Wells ran into some trouble in the second. Trey Amburgey led off with a double. I'm guessing speed isn't a part of his game. Neither a single or a wild pitch were sufficient to bring him home. So, Lachlan Wells escaped the second. From the third through the 6th, Wells gave up only one single and went to the 7th with a 5-0 lead. Amburgey again led off, but this time with his 9th HR, which is tied for 6th in the FSL. After two ground outs, Wells gave up his fifth and final hit, another single. That took his pitch count to 102 and he was lifted for Jonny Drozd, who would allow only one hit the rest of the way himself. The Miracle won 5-1. Wells improved to 3-8, with a 4.09 ERA. His final line 6 2/3 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 102 pitches, 71 strikes. I'm not a math expert, but that appears to be pretty close to 70% strikes. More like that, and things will go well!
  5. Almost everyone who I have ever heard with an opinion on the matter says that no one should throw a curve ball or slider until he is at least 16. So, it really isn't terribly surprising that few have it well developed at 18. And if they do, I would wonder how long he has been throwing a breaking ball and be concerned about that degree of wear on his young arm.
  6. Why would they cut Boshers? His 2.00 ERA not good enough?
  7. I do think we agree and I wouldn't say we are arguing at all. Just clarifying points.
  8. Well, what is a prospect? I do believe Turley was likely the best chance to win today. But, I also believe he is a guy who MIGHT be able to help the team in the future. Perhaps as a starter. Perhaps as a reliever. Perhaps not at all. But he deserves a legitimate shot to prove he can pitch at the MLB level or prove he can't.
  9. I think Turley has just as good of a chance to win as anyone else the Twins could throw out there.
  10. Ah yes. Remember him well. There really was no such thing as a mediocre start with him.
  11. RIP Adam West. The one, the original, The Batman.
  12. Because these are NL rules. He'll have to wait until the pitchers' spot hits again to take him out.
  13. I serm to recall someone saying that if the Twins traded Ervin, it would have to be to an AL team because he couldn't hit.
  14. You're the one unequivocally stating that the conversation starts with player x and player y. What is your experience level in mlb?
  15. This is a ridiculous comment IMO. GMs aren't going to ask for a player they know the other team won't trade. Right now, that would be Berrios and Sano. I have no idea what it would take to get Archer - or even if it is someone the Twins have interest in - but anyone calling Falvey or Levine to inquire about players would know better than to ask about Berrios.
  16. A lot can happen in two years. Nowhere in any post did I mention Palka, Park or Vargas. I did mention LaMonte Wade and Mitch Garver. I think they will be more than ready to contribute by 2019. In what role exactly, it is hard to say. Also, my original response to Brandon included the possibility of resigning Dozier to perhaps play some first base and DH. Dozier will certainly bring more power to 1b/dh than Mauer (better overall hitter is debatable) AND he is a right handed hitter, something most of the Twins hitting prospects are not. The Twins certainly don't need both Mauer and Dozier after 2018. Given that he's younger, has plus power, hits right handed and can play somewhere other than 1b, I'd rather have Dozier.
  17. Mauer is not likely to compile a 2 WAR as a part time player. How exactly would you work this out from a roster standpoint? In this era of 12 or 13 man pitching staffs, there really is no roster space for a part time player who only plays one position. Besides, Lewin Diaz hits left handed. If he is going to break in as a platoon player (which also really don't exist anymore), how is Mauer going to help?
  18. Really? 7 mil per year for a part time player with little power? WHY?
  19. Between Polanco, Gordon and Dozier, the guy who IMO would have the highest return is Polanco. He has position flexibility. He has 5 years of team control remaining after this season. He's young, but he has shown in his time at the MLB level that he belongs. He will probably never be a star, but what he will likely be is a guy who's name is written down on a starting lineup 140 or so times a year for the next 10 years. If the Twins want to get the most bang for their trade buck, trading Polanco might be the way to go.
  20. There is absolutely no reason to resign Joe Mauer. The Twins aren't lacking potential DH/1B types to slide into those at bats. Especially if Dozier is resigned to take some of them. LaMonte Wade will be pressing for playing time. Mitch Garver may need at bats.
  21. And only them if they don't get extended before season's end. The good ones usually do.
  22. Fans aren't able to make postcards of in game action, Richard. Remember the disclaimer?
  23. Santiago is a FA. Gibson would be arb eligible. I would assume he'll be non-tendered if he is still even under team control at season's end. Gonsalves (assuming he remains healthy the rest of the season) figures to be in the mix for a rotation spot at the beginning of next season. Romero, most likely not until mid 2018.
