  1. I don't think the Rangers are likely to trade pitching away. Well, perhaps I should say it would probably be a big mistake. The Rangers rarely have trouble scoring runs. They almost always have bad pitching though.
  2. No love for the great framer, eh? I think I would have to put Castro in the top 10 instead of Berrios simply because Berrios has only been with the team for 4 weeks. If you are rewarding Buxton's defense with a top ten ranking, despite a negative offensive contribution (in terms of WAR), it seems only fair to reward Castro's defense and note that his offense has been quite a bit better than expected. I'd keep your top 7 and go Castro at 8, Buxton at 9 and Duffey at 10.
  3. It was the top story on Fox 9 news and I'm sure the other Twin Cities stations will make it one of their top stories at 10. Joe was found dead this morning in a park in Woodbury. I know many of you who are regulars here live in the Twin Cities, so you may know or have heard of Joe. In addition to being a principal in Oakdale, he was on the school board of the South Washington County District. He was also my friend. I went to school with Joe. He was a grade ahead of me. I mostly knew him because his girlfriend, my classmate, (now widow) had the locker next to mine in high school. Joe was the shortstop of the high school baseball team his senior year. RIP Joe. Prayers to your wife and three girls.
  4. idk, I guess I don't mind Grossman breaking up Kepler and Castro as far as late inning pitching changes are concerned. But I guess I think Grossman should be hitting ahead of Sano. It would be ideal, of course, for Dozier to be hitting in that 5 hole. Not trying to be overly critical, just an observation. If Dozier THINKS he is a better hitter in the lead off spot, he probably is.
  5. So, your strategy is get to the playoffs and hope whatever team has an aging veteran playing poor defense and making base running mistakes and then further hope that maybe a future opponent loses it's top two offensive weapons? The reality of the extra rounds of playoffs mean that is simply more likely that the best team in each league makes it the Fall Classic.
  6. Scranton appears to be a team that likes to strike out as well. David Hurlbut recorded 11 K in 6 2/3 IP today and he's averaging about 6 or 7 per 9. Of course, any way you slice it, 15 K out of 18 outs is dealing. I'd say he's absolutely earned a shot. Give him 3-4 starts, if things go well, 3-4 more. If things don't work out as a starter, try him in the pen for 2-3 weeks. If what he is doing now truly doesn't play at the MLB level, at least he can say "I gave it a shot" and move on with his life.
  7. Vargas was added to replace Polanco. Heston, I assume is taking Rosario's spot.
  8. Santiago still has more quality starts this year than non-quality starts. Gibson has zero quality starts this year and had just 8 in 25 starts last year - only two after July.
  9. In order to get, you have to be willing to give. What are you willing to give? At this point, your choices are limited to guys on teams that have already thrown in the towel. So, you are talking about probably only Oakland in the AL. Any team not named the Nationals in the NL East, the Padres and the Giants. So, like 7 teams. Most of them have relief corps that are in the bottom half of the league. Maybe George Kontos. Maybe Jim Johnson of the Braves. But you'll have to pay more to get him as he's signed cheap for next year. Probably could get Dustin McGowan cheap from Miami, but he's more long man than set up. Reed, Salas or Blevins might be available from the Mets. Neshek from Phillie has been discussed. He's probably available, but why trade for Neshek when you might have the equivalent in AAA?
  10. Turley is pitching WAY better in AAA than he ever has before. Clearly, he's doing something different. I don't know what that is because I'd never really heard of him before. New pitch perhaps? I don't know how you can make a blanket statement that it's very likely he'd be far worse than Santiago. "FAR worse?" It would be pretty hard for anyone to be FAR worse than Santiago lately. Santiago has been Gibson-esque horrid his last couple starts. You wouldn't think a 21 pitch relief stint would have that much carry over. I'm not suggesting, at this point anyway, that he be replaced. He's earned a longer rope than that. Kyle Gibson, on the other hand, has not. He can be returned to AAA and replaced by Turley ASAP as far as I am concerned. IMO, it's his turn.
  11. I think you are remembering the reality of 2001 incorrectly. The Twins traded an impending free agent outfielder (which was a position of surplus) for a starting pitcher whom they controlled for the following two seasons and who was, in fact, the BEST starting pitcher on the team the following season of 2002. Then they traded a borderline competent starting pitcher (who was injured btw) for instant bullpen help. Given the way LaTroy Hawkins was floundering as a closer, it was a positive outcome. btw, where in any post I have made in any thread have I given any suggestion that I believe the Twins have a chance to make the playoffs this year?
  12. The Twins have some prospects in AAA too. They may not have the pure stuff or even the ultimate ceiling of Rosario, but they are more polished and more likely to be able to help today.
  13. Who's talking about making panic moves? You said if the Twins CONTINUE to play well why sell anyone. I am simply pointing out that in their current stretch of games, they are not playing well.
  14. 4-7 in last 11 games. The Twins aren't playing well already.
  15. Anyone else surprised roster moves weren't made after the game? I would have to presume that Rosario, Wimmers and Breslow are no gos for today. Boshers maybe 1 inning. That's kinda leaving the Twins with only Duffey that can go more than 1 inning. I suppose moves are possibly in the works that we just haven't heard about. After all, they didn't announce a replacement for Polanco, but we know there will be one.
  16. Who will be the latest round of reinforcements? I have to believe that Wimmers and Rosario will be sent out. Hildenberger and Busenitz finally? Hildenberger can give length. So can Busenitz, actually.
  17. Presumably with a couple new pitchers.
  18. Remember last inning when Dozier's homerun put the Twins back in the game?
  19. Our two long men aren't providing much length. I suspect Rosario and Wimmers are out. Wimmers DFA. Rosario to AAA. Up next, Busenitz and maybe Hildenberger, assuming neither pitched tonight. That would necessitate another 40 man move. Hughes to the 60 day remains an option. DFA Tepesch would be another.
  20. So, he'll lay over in Chicago. There's no rush.
  21. Just like American top 40, the hits just keep coming.
  22. He'll probably go to Rochester. Unless, of course, the guy to replace him happens to be Melotakis.
  23. I'd say that's a foregone conclusion.
