  1. Who knows. Maybe Hughes flourishes in his return to the pen and he closes through 2019.
  2. IMO, you have a very narrow view of what an "ace" is. 7 of the 8 names you list are in the top 10 for strikeouts. Kluber is the one who isn't and he likely would be if he hadn't missed 3-4 starts on the DL. There's more to being an ace than striking hitters out. If Dallas Keuchel wasn't on the DL, he'd likely be starting the All Star game. Not sure how he isn't an ace. Pitching as well as he has for the last 4 years in THAT ballpark. Tom Glavine and Roy Halladay were hardly strikeout guys but I don't think anyone would call them anything but aces in their prime years. There's something to be said about a guy who simply knows how to pitch.
  3. One of these days Matt Belisle and/or Craig Breslow are not going to survive a roster move. I think that day could next week for one of them, maybe even this week. In addition to Santiago and Hughes, I suspect Pressly will be back this week. He was optioned after the game on the 16th, so today is day 10. He also could be back tomorrow. Busenitz and Hildenberger likely make way for Santiago and Pressly tomorrow. One of them comes back Saturday as the 26th man. Gee figures to start one game on Saturday and then most likely receive his walking papers as well. So, I would guess Hughes could be back Sunday to replace Gee. If he's back before that, it could be Belisle. I would guess at some point the Twins will try Turley in the pen, even if they don't have him relieve "full time" in AAA. It's kinda up to the Twins what they want to do with Turley. They still have Slegers, Hurlbut, Pino, Heston and Melville in the AAA rotation. Gonsalves figures to be bumped up in a few weeks if he continues to do well.
  4. Considering Lachlan Wells went 10 days between starts, I think he did reasonably well in his most recent outing. Wells got the start Thursday, June 22 against the Florida Fire Frogs. In a turnaround of his earlier starts, he retired the first 6 batters in order. Braxton Davidson led off with a single in the 3rd but Wells pitched around it without difficulty. In the 4th, Wells allowed 2 hits,a walk, a stolen base and a wild pitch. He struck out the final two hitters of the inning and held the damage to 2 runs. A triple and a sacrifice fly led to a run in the 5th inning. Wells allowed a lead off single in the 6th - his 4th consecutive inning allowing a lead off hit. He was able to record a fielder's choice and a strikeout before leaving at his pitch limit of 106. Williams Ramirez came in and not only allowed Wells' remaining runner to score, but two more as well. The Miracle offense was almost nowhere to be found. They were 0 for 7 with RISP and lost the game 8-1. Wells' final line was 5 2/3 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 8 K. 106 pitches, 78 strikes, 2 GO, 7 AO. His record now stands at 3-9, with a 4.28 ERA. One curiousity: The last out of every inning Wells completed was a strikeout and the final out before he was removed was also a strikeout. Wells figures to surpass his IP total from last year (71 1/3) in his next start, which I would expect to be Wednesday. If, indeed, the Twins plan to shut him down at about 100 IP, he probably has 5 or 6 starts left. That should take him through July.
  5. Care to revise your statement sir? http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/pitching/_/sort/saves/league/al/year/2017/seasontype/2
  6. Turley started and relieved in AA and AAA this year so I doubt it would be a difficult transition at all.
  7. Of course, he's not hard throwing right now. Not relative to other lefty relievers. Turley throws harder as a starter. Put Turley in the pen and he's probably as good or better than Melotakis.
  8. Saturday's game in which he failed to make it out of the 5th inning? He has two quality starts all year. Phil Hughes has 3. In one of Gibson's "quality" starts he allowed 2 homeruns and 11 total baserunners. He only still has a job at the MLB level because the alternatives are worse. He is not good and other than the first half of 2015, never has been.
  9. Maybe when more than one starter can complete 5 innings.
  10. 1) It doesn't sound like a lot, because 2.5% isn't a lot. 2) It's less than that. Pretty sure the businesses you name don't make 100% of their revenue even on a gameday just from Twins fans going to games.
  11. Not sure he has a pitch to get lefties out.
  12. Didn't exactly fool him with that one.
  13. Trevor Hildenberger, it's your pitch!
  14. Well. If the Twins do hang on to win, they will need to get 9 more outs (12 total) from the pen. Probably from at least 3 different relievers. Meanwhile, the Indians will likely only need 7 from theirs. Most likely from one or two guys. This is how you get an overworked bullpen. The Twins need to get more innings out of their starters.
  15. Unfortunately, the bulk of the rain is well south of Cleveland.
  16. Is anyone warming up? Mejia is at 90 pitches.
  17. Trevor Bauer is Jorge Polanco's b****.
  18. 8 outs. 5 walks. Not good. Edit: Dammit Hawk. Stole my post.
  19. Going to be a long night for the bullpens I think.
