If this were true it means Rocco doesn't want more talent on the roster to make his job easier. There is no way that is the case.

You also have twice said they were going to lose in the 6th inning of games they actually won. What if they win the division? Just go silent?

That is a good question and one I ponder as well. I believe if they are going to protect the starters to such an extent, then they need more multi inning appearances from the pen. Of course then that complicates pen usage. I was a little surprised they pulled Bundy, but it's Bundy. If it had been Gray, Ryan or Winder they would've run with it. You gotta have the horses.

The same place you typed your comment, a computer. If you want to be an old time baseball purist, wouldn't you get your baseball news from the print edition of the Strib on your doorstep? For me the eye test is where I start. The only reason I look up stats to back up my opinions is because we are on a geeky baseball board and I'm just trying to keep up with the Joneses. I didn't know about Baseball Reference until I came here. I'll give Bundy credit. He is a bulldog. I had written him off earlier. However when the top of that lineup is coming up for the 3rd time you had better have a guy warming in the pen if you're going to run him out there again. That might not have been good enough in a one run game.

Bundy's OPS against 3rd time through the order is 875. Arraez is at 876, Buxton 875 and Correa 824. Our best hitters right now. That's is pretty hefty. Griffin Jax has a 572 OPS for his first 25 pitches. It took him about 10 pitches for the 7th and 26 for both innings combined. Nice odds there. Plus we won!

Minnesota’s Return for Berrios Continues to Look Better

Not sure a demotion is a good way to start a new relationship, plus they were probably ready for AA by then.- 69 replies

The Sox sure didn't force Pagán to throw strikes. The same could be said of the Twins when facing Hendricks.

Baldelli has this hapless bunch up 3.5 on the Spiders and 5.5 on the Dirty Sox. Nice work.

Minnesota’s Return for Berrios Continues to Look Better

Toronto didn't give up on them they traded them. Not the same thing. Teams make trades that hurt all the time. Do you think the Twins wanted to say goodbye to Rogers?- 69 replies

Except it was widely believed that Toronto had rushed both players. SWR was 20 at AA. Martin went straight from college to AA.- 69 replies

Twins' Bullpen Needs Some Fresh Faces
wabene replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like the idea of trying young guys with upside in the pen instead of waiver claim types and middling vets. Just look at Duran and Jax, who is looking great and has been durable (knock on wood). Jax has been overshadowed by Duran but has actually been better this month. These two are a real success story this season. The thing with the young guys is if you have any plan on using them in the playoffs you'd better be running them out there now to get as comfortable as possible. Use Moran, for example, not Thornburg. Moran looks a little wound up to me and really needs the seasoning. We still need to add from outside regardless.- 33 replies

Sometimes I need to be reminded that the baseball season truly is a marathon. Two days ago I would've sold the farm for a couple of relievers. Today we have a two game winning streak and I think we are still in first place. Gotta get those Spiders next time though.

I'll bet that at the beginning of the season Twins fans were told Buxton would play 120 games (current pace), the majority would take it.

Since you posted the same thing after the last meltdown would it be 9 games in front now? Edit:I do agree with you they should be further ahead with even competent relieving. 8 blown games between Duffey and Pãgan. Just a 75% success rate and they are up 8 as you stated. Thank you Central Division!

Looking at the bullpen chart man Pãgan has been used a lot lately. 3 out of the last 4 games. Then as someone said what about Duffey (ha ha, but seriously)? Well he had been used 2 out of the last 3 days. The only rested reliever? T Thornburg. As was stated 6 relievers on the IL. Mcgill, Coulumbe or Alcala would've been helpful last night. It is surprising that with a staff devoid of proven workhorses and a beat up pen that was questionable to begin with, that this team is in first place. Obviously we have the division to thank for that. Considering the division they may be willing to wait to the deadline to do anything about it. That's means we could be in store for more of the same. Mcgill, I think, is the only reliever close to returning. He did look good to me, but is hardly proven. A common theme, good looking stuff, questionable command. The FO has got to be feeling the heat. I'm thinking they may actually be forced to pull the trigger on a deal early.

Considering Duran pitched all of 16 innings last year, knock on wood, I'm pleasantly surprised on all fronts with him and hoping for more. Too bad he can't pitch 3 innings every game. Losing Alcala hurts, but there were no guarantees with him either, the depth just wasn't there. Duffey continuing to decline really isn't a big surprise and Pagan is not showing any more than he has most of his career. He just doesn't have the command of his good looking stuff. The deadline and a couple of good arms can't come soon enough.

Twins 6, Rockies 0: It’s Payback Time in Minneapolis
wabene replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Do you have any inside information that it is Rocco and not the Trainers and Docs that are holding Archer back? For all any of us know it is Rocco behind the scenes lobbying for a longer leash for Archer and others.- 21 replies

This is true and your right part of the fun of being a fan is going over these scenarios. Notice I said fun. To me it is not fun to read statements like "this loss is 100% on Rocco" etc. If every comment is a vehicle to blame Baldelli I will stop taking said poster seriously. Or if every post leads to how statistical analysis is ruining the game. That's just obstinate. I don't mind some comments questioning in game decisions or the limits of analytics, that can be interesting. The game changes over time and has cycles. Watching Kepler start to hit the other way and Arraez putting so many balls in play is great and good for the game. I do agree that some trends in the game are not my cup of tea. I just love it when a guy like Kepler pokes one through the shift. (Why did it take so long for him to make these changes?) I welcome some more small ball. Maybe the Twins do bunt last night and it works. Wouldn't be their first such play this year. Doesn't mean they win they game. As I read through the comments on this article it was depressing. Not as bad as the Strib and some good points were made, but the thread was lacking in nuance or balance. The same narrative hammered home. Might have discouraged more positive posters from weighing in and offering something different.
