  1. I'd prefer the low minors as well. Pedro Hernandez was actually my insperation for my search of a AAAA pitcher. I disliked the waste of a 40-man roster spot last year and I would also dislike the waste of the 40-man roster spot this year.
  2. I have assumed Gardy would be back ever since Ryan put himself between a rock and a hard place and publicly said the losing isn't on Gardenhire.
  3. My vote is for cash considerations, but it's more fun to try to find a player. My player pick is Everett Teaford a left handed swingman who would take on Duensing's role but is not yet arbitration eligible. Not sure what will happen with Duensing, but I'll bet this offseason the Twins will be looking to move him. Maybe even release him.
  4. Reportedly, the deadline for a waiver claim on Morneau is noon today. I too thought it would have been in the Twins best interest to let Parmelee flail away this lost season. There would have been room to evaluate/showcase Morneau also had the Twins just put Doumit on the bench. In my opinion, Doumit has been the cause of the playing time logjam, he always seemed like a great bench bat but an impediment as a starter on a rebuilding team. I wonder if he has been placed on waivers? I'm not sure the protocol for guys on the DL.
  5. Not as low of a probablity as Drew Butera had of making the club. I remember seeing the return for Luis Castillo and thinking there was a slim chance Dustin Martin would someday make the club but no way in hell was a guy putting up the terrible numbers Butera did in the low minors ever making it to the majors.
  6. What are you talking about? Everyone seems pretty happy with this deal. Who's complaining? http://twinsdaily.com/minnesota-twins-talk/8154-predict-return-buterible-3.html
  7. Right, I think it shows that many of us that aren't firmly in Ryan's corner do in fact evaluate his work subjectively. I have no issues congratulating him on this move and showing my displeasure with other facets of his management.
  8. I'd have to think Melotakis and Bard have just as man question marks as starters. People bring up his stature but I wonder what is causing the concern? I thought we were past the point where hight was a major red flag.
  9. The point of waivers is to give the worst teams a chance at possible useful players other teams are casting off. But that's only an effort for reasonable compitition at the MLB level. Waivers is not helpful to sellers at this time of year. To maximize the value, you don't want anyone to claim him so you are free to negotiate with everyone. I don't see any way that waiting to put Morneau on waivers until he gets hot is any kind of advantage for the Twins. As Brock said, it was an oversight. He possibly would have cleared waivers if placed immediately. The Twins could have then waited to trade him when/if he got hot. Edit: I think you may be under the impression that if a player clears waivers, he must be traded immediately. He does not, the Twins can place their whole team on waivers August 1 and wait to trade any that clear at their leisure.
  10. The Luis Castillo trade tree has grown a new branch, nice move. Considering his age and production, I'd put him ahead of other pitching prospects Melotakis, Bard, Chargois and Baxendale.
  11. And the winner is, this guy: Miguel Sulbaran Minor League Statistics & History - Baseball-Reference.com Ranked #14 among Dodgers prospects. Wow, nice return. I checked this guy out when I was looking through the Dodgers minor league stats but dismissed him as he seemed to be out of Butera's league.
  12. Hicks has only two extra base hits in his last ten games, both being doubles. He is getting on base however, with hits in all but two of the games. He has nine strikeouts over that span but only one multi-strikeout game. For the year he is still hitting .295/.359/.474 with 15 HR and 96 RBI.
  13. Interesting take. Which heads in particular would his insertion into the rotation cause an explosion, I'm now very intregued?
  14. I'll take the better performance, however taking the outlier (Deduno) is a pretty convenient way to swing an arguement in your favor. In almost every situtation, pitchers with more strikeouts are better pitchers and pitchers who show a decrease in strikeouts provide worse performances. You don't really think it is only happenstance that the Twins rotation is the worst at striking people out AND among the worst staffs in the league?
  15. Whoa, whoa, whoa, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Just because Andrew Albers can pitch a complete game doesn't mean we should expect six innings from the rest of the staff. A solid five innings Wednesday would still allow him to get two outs his following start if we were deciding 140 was his magic number.
  16. I don't even like the team "unearned run" anymore. All runs are earned in my book. Worried about errors? Strike the batter out.
  17. I agree the Twins seem to be making an effort now but I wonder how effective it is. Other teams have about a decade head start on scouting, drafting and developing strikeout artists, the Twins are way behind at this point. I was very encouraged by last years drafting of the hard throwing college arms even if they needed to be converted from the bullpen. However, so many of them, like Melotakis, Baxendale, Duffy and Powell, have taken a pretty big step back in the strikeout department. Other guys thought to be fireballers from past drafts have not been able to produce the numbers and also struggle in the K department like Boyd, Boer and Summers. Some regression should be expected moving up levels or moving from the pen to the rotation, but for the most part, the decrease by these pitchers is quite sharp. So why is this happening? Are the Twins just not as skilled as the other clubs in identifying arms that can sustain a high strikeout rate? Or are they still stubbornly installing at least some aspects of the pitch-to-contact theory into these young pitchers?
  18. Are you saying it wasn't insightful? Because I'd argue that the mass frustration with the front office on this issue was thoughtfully and thoroughly justified by a widely respected baseball publication. It just happens that they do not paint the Twins front office in a positive light and imply it would be difficult to achieve this level of incompetence in this statistical area with out trying to do so. My favorite line: "Deduno flirted with a few strikeouts in 2012 but the Twins seem to have beat that notion right out of him."
  19. Sano's ceiling is higher than the greatest 3B to ever play the game? Even on the off chance that statement were true, it seems much to presumptuous and karma defying to ever be spoken.
  20. In honour of the Canadian Albers? I think that spelling is only how Newfoundlanders do it though.
  21. Like those contending, warm weather Chicago Cubs who seem to be hot on the trail of every international player this year? About Griffith, let's be honest, he likely only scouted Latin players with an eye on finding cheap labor to serve his Lion's Club dinners. He was a despicable human being, even more so than Carl Pohlad. The Telegraph - Google News Archive Search
  22. I understand the analogy in regards to scouting from many regions, but if that bell is ringing from the Twins, it rings a bit hollow considering the reference taken literally is the exact opposite of the Twins philosophy. When hiring and promoting, they do not look in other areas but instead set their gaze within the organization to fill a void with someone who actually is of exctly the same mind as those in charge. The Twins likely do scout Australia better than any other team and are strong in Europe and Venezuala, but I'd trade dominance in two of those regions for a strong presence in the DR because population aside, that's where a vast majority of the talent is. It's nice to be a pioneer and plant a flag down under, but when you consider that the best player from that continet is a contest between Dave Nilsson and Grant Balfour, who have a combined two All-Star game appearneces between them, I'd rather bank on the more productive nation, even if it means battling with other clubs. I think Ryan's passiveness and aversion to going to go toe-to-toe with other GM's is a pretty big issue.
  23. While some may argue the Twins moved Carroll to save themselves more money, I'd argue that the Twins made this move to give valuable playing time to future lineup stalwart Wilkin Rameriz.
  24. Rameriz? Matroianni? Thomas? This is embarassing. Had Rosario not been moved to 2B, I wonder if he would now be manning CF. No matter, I'm happy with him at 2B, but no wonder the the organization has made mention of a possible fast track for Buxton.
