  1. I agree, but there's not much to sell. This team cannot get the vets to play well leading up to the deadline over the last several years. I mean, if we don't care if these guys are on the team, why would a contender want them?
  2. That's unfortunate. Thatcher is more attractive than Duensing, but still, the Twins could have blown away that offer an not lost any sleep. I sure hope there are some medical issues not made aware to rubes like us. Ok, that sounded cynical, I just hope the Twins didn't miss out on another one of AZ's Crazy Dayz sales.
  3. It is reported that the Padres are offering this for Ian Kennedy: Matt Stites Minor League Statistics & History - Baseball-Reference.com Matt Stites is a AA reliever and not one of the Padres top 20 prospects. I can't imagine AZ would move Kennedy for that. Surely the Twins can top that offer. If AZ can truely be lowballed, the Twins have a ton of mid-level prospects.
  4. I'd rather the youngsters play also, but the Twins also have vets taking away playing time. Unfortunately Willingham, Doumit, Morneau, Correia, Pelfrey and Carroll likely have next to no value at the moment.
  5. I'm no smarty pants computer guy, but I assume the slow loading is probably due to high traffic due to the trade deadline. It was also slow on draft day. The GB% is a red flag, though I like the K%. Of course in short season league the K% is high for most guys. We'll see if that GB% improves once more guys start putting the ball in play. Or hopefully not.
  6. Most Twins fans were pretty disappointed with the Wimmers pick and everyone predicted they would take him. Even though he was the pitcher tabbed to be closest to MLB ready, no other team wanted him because he had a very low ceiling and most teams want high ceiling in the 1st round. I wanted Zach Lee, but they also passed on HS arms Jesse Biddle, Aaron Sanchez, Noah Syndergaard, and Tijuan Walker. Cam Bedrosian was the other HS pitcher drafted soon after Wimmers, but 5 of the 6 are still top 100 prospects. With the Stewart and Berrios picks the Twins look to be over the safe, low ceiling picks, it's just unfortunte they didn't adjust that philosophy sooner. Yeah, that would have been a nice grab too. I didn't realize until now he went only one spot ahead of Niko Goodrum. That draft had the possiblities of being huge when you consider they also got Rosairo in the 4th round. There are a lot of C type prospects the Twins got in that draft also. Still, I notice they didn't draft and sign any HS arms that year.
  7. Yeah, those are nice to have at the trade deadline, but I'd also take a Feldman, Schierholtz, DeJusus, Gregg, Crain, Rios or Rameriz at this point too. Not all are getting moved, but all seem to have some value. The Twins only have Perkins, who's value likely tops them all, but he doesn't look to be on the table. As Jim said, the bullpen is the Twins saving grace this year, alas, generally only closers or elite set-up men bring a return of any excitement.
  8. Watching teams like the Cubs and White Sox swing deals makes me jealous that those teams actually have valuable and expendable pieces to move. Hard to believe the Twins have a better record but have nearly no useful trade chips. I'm not a staunch Gardenhire supporter, but logic says that if the Twins are still playing better than the Chicago teams, who have more valuable players, he's at least squeezing more out of the bums on his squad.
  9. I'd say less than 50% but I don't know that it's out of the realm of possibility. At this time of year $4.5 million seems like a lot of money to teams, we've seen smaller contracts sneak through attached to guys just as (un?)productive as Morneau. Plus a non-contender likely isn't going to claim him, he's a rental. There's a good chance the team that claims him will actually want him and make an offer.
  10. Because you're a Detroit fan? This is a pretty bizare statement.
  11. I have no interest in a Liriano-ish return for Morneau. The Twins don't have room for more career AAAA players on the 40-man. I'd rather let him play out the year even if there was only a 1% chance of Morneau turning it around enough to earn a qualifying offer.
  12. Nice write up. Surprised Doumit isn't in the top 11 though, guys with some pop and some, cough, versatility usually interest multiple teams. I'm also surprised Carroll was atop the list. He seems like the kind of guy who gets moved in August, but his versatility likely will be appealing. For what it's worth, sources are telling Beradino that Morneau is 50-50 to be moved, though I think it's less. I don't think the Twins ship him off for a Liriano-esque package and I don't think they'll get offered much more. I think they have a little bit of awareness of what a straight salary dump for a still fan favorite would mean.
  13. Maybe the Twins told the Royals that. Not sure why the Royals would have a ton of interest either considering his lack of offense; just connecting the dots.
  14. Mike Beradino says the Royals were scouting the Twins while in Seattle but no one is sure who they were scouting. Danny Knobler says the Royals have shown interest in Gordon Beckham, Howie Kendrick, Ricky Weeks and Kevin Frandsen. MLBTR caught both of these nuggets but did not draw the obvious correlation that the Royals were possibly scouting Brian Dozier.

  16. Yeah, May maybe, (ha) the others, probably not. But how much is the question. He's having a down year and was only average last year, AZ doesn't have a lot to bargain with other than those two arb years. If they already hadn't made some at the time head-scratching trades moving Trevor Bauer and Justin Upton, the alert lights would be flashing. The track record based on those trades tells me the demand is fairly unpredicatable leaning toward buyer friendly.
  17. So Ian Kennedy is available. He's not a free agent until 2016. AZ is trying to move him while he's in a down year which obviously isn't maximizing his value. Normally I'd be suspicious, but with their offseason moves, it's clear AZ is moving guys who don't fit into Kirk Gibson's image. I have no clue if this is true of Kennedy, but I'd be interested. What would it take to land a guy who was once a highly valued pitcher but who currently is in a funk but still has two arb years left? There's likely not a lot of precident for this kind of transaction.
  18. Terry Ryan was the traitor in the Dirty Dozen too?! I knew it!
  19. I'd like to see them a little more active also, though to be fair, they did get Jose Berrios and Luke Bard in exchange for losing Cuddyer and Kubel. They probably could have gotten better than Bard for Kubel, but Berrios for Cuddyer isn't a bad swap. That system is long gone though so a more active trade deadline is probably more justified.
  20. Yeah, time to let the young guys play. There are plenty of vets the Twins seem to have a hard time moving as it is.
  21. Tell me more about this Buxton fellow. He sounds like a fine baseball player.
  22. I agree, they've gotten players that demonstrate both characteristics recently and I stated this. Jim simply assumes every comment I make is aimed at Terry Ryan's head and takes every opportunity to contradict me.
  23. Their ventures into free agency says otherwise. Their drafting of Alex Wimmers as opposed to the half dozen talented HS pitchers picked quickly after says otherwise. Trading Liriano for Escobar and Hernandez who are very low ceiling grinders instead of a guy in the lower ranks with upside say otherwise.
  24. I'm afraid to read this. Is this about the negative effects of stereotypes? Or neo-nazi propaganda? All I can tell is there must be some racial theme I want to steer clear of. Edit: Ok, I caved, I can't resist anything sensational. Can I ask who the pitcher was?
  25. Agree. If Sano's options become an issue, something went horribly wrong. Service time? Well sure, that's going to be a concern, but if he turns into the next Brandon Wood, the options will be the least of the problem.
