  1. I'm surprised there aren't more watery eyes in that dugout. Danny, are you crying?! There's no crying in baseball!!!!
  2. Not pulling starters ridiculously early and taxing an already terrible bullpen. Not pinch running for your best players late in the game when the odds of that player batting again are much higher than the odds of the increased speed actually making a difference. Pinch hit for a poor hitting catcher late in games. Call for fewer bunts in clear non-bunting situations. Give Tonkin or whoever the current hot hand is the closer job instead of making Jepsen the de facto closer. Not waiting a month to remove Dozier from the top of the lineup. Not waiting a month and a half to move up Park in the batting order. Not sitting the young players when they need playing time. Just off the top of my head. I put more blame on Ryan as well, but Molitor has not done a very good job.
  3. And inserted directly into the closer role, whether the manager is comfortable with it or not.
  4. I am in the camp of making wholesale changes, and wholesale changes just aren't plausible to make in-season. While I wouldn't be against firing Molitor now, if it happens, rightfully or wrongfully, I think plenty of people are going to interpret it as a defensive move by the front office trying to deflect blame from themselves. We heard a lot of those comments after Gardy got the axe and Ryan stayed. On the other hand, if no drastic off-season changes are made, giving Gene Glynn the job now would be about the best chance to get an honest to goodness evaluation of a guy who may be pretty good candidate. Though again, I do not want this organization to continue with the in-house promotions.
  5. Interesting. Just checking in, but only 8 pages of game thread in the 8th? Looks like apathy has set in. In May.
  6. Hard to tell. This just in: Every ballplayer on the Red Wings roster has retired in unison. Reports are unclear if it is due David Murphy's hypnotic suggestion to follow his lead or the players fear that they may be depromoted to Minnesota.
  7. In almost the same number of PA, Danny Santana has been the better MLB player in every measurement and he's a year younger.
  8. That sounds fabulous for the 2016 Twins. And the 2015 Twins.
  9. I like having a plan, that's a good start. I don't think I'd keep those guys down until August 1 though. That just seems like we'd be asking for the start of 2017 to be more development and experimentation time. I don't expect the young guys to come up and be ready to play, I expect struggles. That's how baseball has always been. They wouldn't give awards to the top Rookie if they were all expected to play like they've been here before. Let them struggle and learn now so we can get as good of a read as possible in 2017. The plan should be to know who exactly is going to be a contributor in 2017. That should have been the plan this year but 2015's unexpected success didn't allow for that.
  10. That's a blanket statement and largely misleading as I would venture to guess that just about everyone who supported seeing Buxton play at the MLB level are the same people who are now supporting seeing Berrios at the MLB level. Also, Berrios was missing plenty of bats, Buxton was missing plenty of pitches. The pitcher is the causation in the pitcher/batter relationship, as it is the batter that needs to react to the pitcher. Logic would indicate that generally batters SHOULD have to be more ready and need more seasoning to come up and play at the MLB level.
  11. I would argue every move Ryan has made since the season went in the toilet looks like a misguided attempt to squeeze every futile win out of this club, and the only reason he would do that is because he's thinks it's the only way to save jobs.
  12. None of the players are intentionally tanking games, I'm sure everyone in the dugout is playing to win every single one of them. If the inclusion of a single player on the 25-man is causing another player to give less of an effort, than that guy needs to get lost. And that isn't happening. Who is on the roster has absolutely nothing to do with the players trying to win games.
  13. Berrios' biggest issue was his control, which has never before been an issue. If he's having issues locating, it's likely due to nerves, you don't get over that in AAA with 500 people in the stands.
  14. Why? The Twins used it as a developmental league in the early 80s and late 90s. When the big club is terrible, why not let the young guys learn how to compete against MLB players instead of AAA players? What good is 70 Wins in 2016 going to do anyone as opposed to 60 Wins?
  15. What can he learn in AAA that he can't in the majors? Because at this point Wins and Losses in 2016 should be among the last concerns anyone has for this club. It should all be about Wins and Losses in 2017 and beyond.
  16. Even if Hoyer won't leave because they want to finish what they started in Chicago, there are plenty of other opportunities to do something similar. John Mozeliak in St. Louis or Neil Huntington in Pittsburgh could be considered assuming that to get an existing successful GM the team would be promoting them to Team President. They may not be a good fit, but they c/w/sh-ould be considered. I'd say the chances of the Pohlad's doing something drastic are less than 50/50, but I also think all bets are off if attendance continues to dwindle. I think last year's surprise team saved some jobs, another backslide with the much heralded prospects we were all told to be patient with could easily be justification for wholesale changes. Success now, with these guys is what Ryan and the front office were pinning their entire campaign on through the "rebuilding" period.
  17. Duffy has a good breaking pitch, Hughes curveball has always been below average. If your only decent pitch is your fastball, and it losses 3-4 MPH in two years, you're in trouble unless it started at 98. Edit: and looking at Fangraphs, his curveball usage has been up this year. He was throwing it 15% of the time last year and it's up to 24% this year. So I'm guessing they've been experimenting with off-speed stuff as everyone knows his velocity is a problem. It's of no use though if the curve stinks just as it always has.
  18. I agree, Hughes' last three starts have gone 4 innings, 2 innings and 5 innings. Molitor has already shown a pattern yanking him early, even if Ryan did want to milk every dime out of Hughes by sticking him in the rotation, he can't stop Molitor from Alex-Meyering Hughes the rest of the year.
  19. Making blanket statements about Terry Ryan is how one ends up being wrong saying the Twins will never draft a HS pitcher with an early pick, the Twins will never give a free agent a deal longer than 2 years and the Twins will never fire a manager. This is an assumption, not fact, it should be prefaced as such. "Ryan probably will not do it, because"
  20. Holy crap, it's up to 91 MPH now?
  21. Voting for someone who isn't running and isn't willing to take office doesn't make any sense either.
  22. I'm OK with keeping Buxton in AAA a bit if there is a plan for Danny Santana. He's been hitting again and though he probably has little trade value on his own, if he keeps hitting, he might be a good complementary price to add if the team is trying to move a difficult to trade starter.
  23. I thought we were trying to clean up a mess, not add to it.
  24. Come on, no one cares about Wins any more. What about WAR, that's cumulative, the Twins pitchers have him beat there. Oh. Oh no. They don't? Seriously? Sorry, what is going on here?
  25. You better not be ripping on The Cars! Unlike this team, they're quite enjoyable to listen to.
