  1. Regardless of where Sano plays, I actually have been arguing that this team was not better with Plouffe in the lineup since this off season. The team has too many guys who don't make contact and don't get on base and due to his age and position, Plouffe should have been the most expendable of those guys. Even if Plouffe could outperform Polanco in OPS, the Twins need an upgrade at OBP. In my mind, Plouffe should have been removed or bench simply to get a guy in the lineup who can get on base. Also he's a vet, so we all knew Molitor would bat him in the middle of the lineup instead of 7th or so as he should on most other teams. I'm not talking hindsight here either, I'm talking about 2015 Plouffe, not 2016.
  2. It seems like a fantastic summation to this season to me.
  3. Damn it Elon Musk, just continue to focus on making cars that can drive 2000 miles on a AAA battery.
  4. Good evening everybody. Not sure if anyone noticed, but Brian Dozier is batting 3rd tonight. Just thought I'd drop that completely irreverent observation.
  5. I'm completely comfortable assuming every start for Phil from here on out is a spot start.
  6. Dozier was already on a contract, that didn't change, the team had him for the exact same amount of time they normally would have. Anthony can say all he wants about cost certainty, this team was never going to approach any kind of salary ceiling in the next three years. The only thing that has stopped the Twins from having three costly starter-turned bullpen arms the past two years was injury and dumb luck. Otherwise the Twins would have done just that with Pelfrey, Nolasco and Hughes. I didn't want Dozier extended, I could just care less if they overpay him.
  7. Right, and now we're concerned about Terry Ryan Circa 2011-2016 and particularly concerned about the years beyond. This game evolves all the time. I don't want someone who clings to past success and holds it up as proof of future achievement. For the record, I don't believe Ryan does that even if some of his supporters and collaborators do.
  8. Again though, it wasn't an extension. I didn't want him extended and I think the majority here didn't. This time last year it looked like the Twins were contenders and had a AS 2B on a below market deal so they'd have extra money to spend when needed. Now he's not an AS 2B and they aren't close enough to contention to worry about the money savings. Not a big loss. Except to the Pohlad's wallets. And he's a batter, not a starting pitcher. He can be hidden on the bench if/when he gets bad enough. Dozier as a utility/bench bat isn't the worst thing in the world.
  9. Dozier didn't get extended though and does anyone want an extra free agent year at this point? And frankly, his restructured contract looked pretty genius this time last year. Either way, it only costs money, it's not my money, and it wasn't going to be spent anywhere else anyway so I don't give two farts about his current contract.
  10. I don't defend the front office much, and I don't defend the field staff much, but man, this team is always full of players either all going bad or all going good. Look at Milwaukee and Cincinnati, they are terrible, but have some vets playing well enough to bring back some good value in a trade. The Twins are terrible and really have no movable vets. The same thing happened in 2011-14. What gives? You can look at Milwaukee and say that team should be better with Braun, Lucroy, Hill and Villar doing so well. Not since 2008 could you look at a Twins roster and say, that team has guys playing better than their record would indicate.
  11. No it won't. That's why driving an electric car and bringing your own reusable grocery bags to the store need to be cool and fashionable, and they slowly are starting to.
  12. Ha ha, it just occurred to me that Cleveland very well may have called up Robbie Grossman out of AAA had Byrd gotten suspended last month instead.
  13. I agree, and sorry if this sounds judgmental, but I think so much of the social media "outrage" that has previously, and will continue to, swinging things in our favor usually draws the lowest-common denominator crowd. That's basically bottom up in my book.
  14. I'm with everyone with the climate change issue, but I'm not sure a giant mass protest is needed, this is the 21st century, people do things because it makes them look cool, and there does seem to be considerable more interest in Tesla cars, solar panels, single-sort recycling and other such Eco-friendly directives. Walmart and McDonalds already have said they will go with free range chickens, that wasn't done out of conscious, it was done out of PR and profitability. They'll do the same thing with these slaughterhouses when it's in their best interest. It may not be at the speed we like, but things are turning in our favor. I don't think placards and mass chants outside a corporate office are going to have any more effect than liking the right Facebook pages and following the right Twitter posters. I really don't do social media aside from TD, but I really think it's going to win this war as stupid, and at times lazy, as I think it usually is.
  15. There's a danger there, but frankly, if the pitchers are running the ship, it's time to change captains. Perkins publicly skewered Pinto to the point where there was no chance of redemption for him and it was a total bush league play by Perkins. Suzuki is not a good catcher and the pitchers seem to like him. I think there's something more in play than just defensive liability. If I were to guess, I'd think the pitchers resented Pinto's inexperience as much as anything. Also, if Collins is the best bat available, then his offense may play at a corner spot too. I don't care what position he plays, if the team goes offense, I want the guy who's bat is most likely to be a difference maker.
  16. If they pick a bat, I want the best bat available regardless of position. He might be it. And as others pointed out, an average to below average defensive catcher is just fine if his bat plays. This team already has a poor defensive catcher, and he doesn't hit.
  17. Those guys also had a big time agent, Casey Close I believe. As guys like Aiken and Close already have a pretty nice savings account due to draft bonuses, most of the other shenanigans the MLB pulls on the minor-leaguers only effect the guys that don't get big draft bonuses, and most of those guys probably don't have high-profile agents who regularly deal with MLB front offices.
  18. I would think never having to play in the field and instead sitting on a bench in the dugout for 95% of the game probably does more for one's injury problems than any steroid would.
  19. Putin and now Jong-un. That's fantastic, they should get some campaign pins with all three of their smiling faces on them made up.
  20. He did have a 10.6 H/9 in Ft. Myers so it looks like his current AA pace is a bit of a mirage, on the other hand his 2015 numbers in this department were pretty strong. What's happened to Levi Michael though? I thought last year he started to figure it out, but now repeating AA nothing is going well for him.
  21. This is frustrating to me mostly because the Braves are terrible and in sell mode but actually have a decent young but experienced player who can bring back some future help. Though if the Twins had a similar player, I also doubt they'd trade him. If Gibson rebounds this summer, it will be interesting to see if the Twins think about moving him, my guess is no.
  22. I would like to add that not only is criticizing a post by someone else not mandatory but possibly against Twins Daily posting guidelines. Perhaps critiquing is the better choice.
  23. Maybe, but just because Ryan is the wrong guy now, doesn't mean you were wrong about the guy yesterday. Well, I mean literally yesterday you would have been wrong, but perhaps not some time in the past. Having a job this long no doubt engenders a huge level of attachment both to colleagues and players. Human nature would seem to indicate that the longer someone is with you, the harder it is to see them go. Everyone is so entrenched their roots have wrapped around the foundation of the organization. Getting rid of anyone is hard and painful, doubly so in a situation where men and women have bonded for decades. We need someone new even if for the sole purpose of doing the dirty work and severing the ties of sentimentality.
  24. It could be, but Carl was 91 when it was conceived and it was launched after his death. I'm not saying he wasn't the person in charge, but I'd think there was someone(s) else behind it.
  25. If he wants to be a HOFer, he really should push for 18+
