  1. 5:30 start time? Man, I like these early evening games!
  2. Pittsburgh has recently traded Gerrit Cole, Andrew McCutchen and Daniel Hudson, the return for all of these players, was exclusively MLB ready types. Nearly everyone of the players they brought back were former prospects who had lost some luster but had already debuted at the MLB level. It was no secret that Cole and McCutchen were going to be traded, and while everyone was picking apart how many top 100 prospects Pittsburgh would be able to get for them, they actually opted to go in a different direction. Only their Daniel Freese and Ivan Nova trades did they sell off a player for a (non)prospect, but those guys weren't going to fetch anything of value anyway. The Pirates have the history of a team that is valuing being able to place the players they get in a trade right on the 25-man. This is the team that may value the Romero/Gonsalves/Gordon types much more than anyone would expect. Those guys are fairly comparable to Joe Musgrove, Colin Morin and Kyle Crick.
  3. Maybe not, but if he was the starting 2B AND the 4th or 5th OF, then you've got more options for the rest of the bench. Maybe he can't handle it, but he looks exponentially more athletic than Gonzalez or Astudillo. I don't think this team losses anything defensively if he's out there over those two regardless of experience.
  4. Thankfully none of the injuries appear to be of great significance. Honestly, I kind of like this adversity at this point of the year. Guys are being forced to step up both out of position defensively and out of position as far as lineup construction goes. And so far they're winning despite the team looking like Baldelli is choosing who plays what position and where they bat by drawing names out of a hat. If the Twins cruised through the season with no adversity, I'd be more worried about them come the playoffs.
  5. Wade and Arraez have a similar offensive skill set, I'd would be nice if Wade's plate patience pays off even remotely similarly. Speaking of Arraez, I'd like to see him continue to get some OF reps. That kind of flexibility looks like it would be helpful this year and would provide a helpful option for roster construction next year.
  6. They’ve managed fine without him but I really would have like it to bite them in the tail harder. In my view, teams like the Rays, Pirates, A’s and Marlins need to be publicly humiliated for their inexcusable refusal to spend money. I mean we complain about the Twins but a few of these clubs make them look like the Yankees. Ok, maybe the Cardinals.
  7. Impossible, you’re not older than me?
  8. Whew, for a second there I thought one of those was a question mark.
  9. I was at the 1996 Olympics and Cypress was granted a women’s sprinter a spot in the 100m dash. I’m not sure of the loophole which allowed her to run as her qualifying times were nowhere close to normal Olympic eligibility, probably something to do with country representation. I was in high school at the time and in track myself, and while thrilled the woman got to represent her traditionally overlooked country, I was immediately aware that while she ran for a PR in the race, it wouldn’t have even qualified for the North Dakota Class B state meet. I was reminded of that story watching Astudillo and Sano score on that Garver single.
  10. I agree that relief arms are the biggest crapshoots, but here's hoping they put that data to use. Don't chase trades based on name and reputation, those things are fleeting with this position. Go for the guys who data suggests have the repertoire, peripherals, velocity and make up to transition to a new situation. And that might still be the big names, I'd like Iglesias too.
  11. Dang, I'm sure many thought it might be over after his last shoulder injury but this is too bad. I was hoping he'd recover and have another shot.
  12. I'm happy to have Garver, Castro and Astudillo, so I guess?
  13. Too bad, I had high hopes for him once upon a time. Unless Adrianza's abdominal issue is supposed to keep him out most of the summer, I would have just DFA'd Torreyes, but Moya was one of several guys on the 40-man I wouldn't raise any objection to removing.
  14. I'm an Arraez fan. I'd also guess so are the GMs of the teams the Twins will be talking to when looking for bullpen help. I'm not sure if the Twins would move him, but controllable young middle infielders who through no fault of their own struggle to stay on the 25-man will probably get their name dropped quite a bit.
  15. I might think this would make for a good article all on it's own. For me, Allen went from a "Meh" to a "You have me full attention" with another great Parker Hageman deep dive.
  16. I’d gamble on him, but I’m not sure the Twins would play roulette with both he and Allan. Rosenthal might also not be interested if he sees Allan as another obstacle back to the majors. If I had to pick, I’d probably go with Rosenthal though. Allan looks like Addison Reed, his stuff just doesn’t work anymore now that he’s lost his velocity. I’d like Rosenthal’s odds of shaking off the rust and regaining some control better. Not that I’d do more than cross my fingers with either scenario,
  17. I choose to use his four games he was up and the 20 games of solitaire he lost in a row on his flight from Rochester. 0-20 is going to kill your average. Jokes aside, I like Astudillo and in just about every other year he'd be on the 25-man all season long. But more than I like Astudillo, I like this team's depth. If Buxton and Garver are coming back I don't mind which of Astudillo or Cave stays. But while Asutdillo hit well in his return, that dropped fly playing RF probably helped keep Cave around.
  18. Cubs/Braves? You take the Keuchel thread, I'll take the inevitable Kimbrel thread.
  19. I at no point ever have wanted Dallas Keuchel and was glad the Twins didn't seem terribly interested in that kind of pitcher. But after only one start, it's not worth the possible dinner of crow later, to draw any kind of conclusions now.
  20. I agree the bullpen isn’t as bad as some make it out to be, but this level of condescension is pretty off putting. But even if the bullpen is satisfactory, there’s never been a rule you can’t try to make the it exemplary.
  21. I’ve seen Robbie Grossman, Marwin Gonzalez and Willans Astudillo do it the past two years. I think you’re overestimating what’s expected from the back up outfielders.
  22. Same pattern as last year. I hope it's a 'getting adjusted to a new level' kind of thing and not a 'getting adjusted to the season/weather' kind of thing. I'm a Rooker fan, but if he ends up as a yearly staple on the 25-man, I hope he's not always struggling in April.
  23. If you say so Mr. Fancypants rule expert!
