  1. I'm not sure what my post has to do with your alcohol comparison. Are you trying to say that the current ballplayers who chew aren't perpetuating the habit? But arguments that try to demonize something else as justification don't carry much weight. Feel free to argue for or against an alcohol ban, but saying tobacco should be allowed because alcohol is worse is like arguing that Mussolini should stay in office since Hitler is an even worse dictator.
  2. Right, but 37% of your coworkers weren't doing it. Ballplayers are doing it because of watching another ballplayer on TV, because of baseball tradition, or some other outdated idea. I mean 37% compared to 6% isn't a coincidence. Buxton and other players chewing IS perpetuating the use for the next generation. One can argue that it's their right to perpetuate it, but I don't think one can argue that they aren't perpetuating it.
  3. I thought Balazovic would have been higher after seeing him pick up more steam nationally. Pretty surprising about Arraez. He's MLB ready and already had some success. He might be a really attractive trade chip.
  4. It is all very weird that this is nearly a baseball exclusive issue. If their non-baseball peers aren't doing it, and it's not allowed in HS, college, minor league and half of the major league stadiums, that means these guys are actively going out of their way to start this habit. It's not like the Senior catcher is sitting next to the Freshman in the dugout pressuring him to try it anymore.
  5. I want to play! Leaving the Field Forever I Saw Him Standing There (Sadly on the Mound) Eight Innings a Week (Sung by Taylor Rogers) Got to Get You Into My Dugout All You Need is Glove (As interpreted with choreography by Miguel Sano) Let it Be Over
  6. Through June his velocity was down about 1.5 MPH from the start of the year, so I was thinking the same thing. But then last start he was back to his 93 MPG average, I don't know. He just might not be very consistent. Or good. No one will or should like this, but with a 10 game division lead, I'm guessing they aren't going to rush to fix this. But right now they should raid the out-of-contention teams. Elite guys won't move yet; the Blue Jays are surely going to want to wait maximize a guy like Ken Giles, Will Smith probably too. But I bet the Twins could get Daniel Hudson now. Or Roenis Elais, I wanted him earlier in the year and now that I saw him in person last night, I want him even more. Ian Kennedy could probably be gotten without given up much in terms of prospects if the Twins take on some of his contract. Get a couple of the unsexy guys now, then when other teams fade and the big names are ready to be moved, get one of those as well.
  7. I like starters turned relievers. Elias a lefty and works fast. The Twins shouldn’t let him leave Minnesota .
  8. Is this team going to have 11 guys double digit in HR before the all star break?
  9. I just drew up an extension for Buxton, anyone have the fax number where I need to send it to?
  10. I bet Cron didn’t learn that defensive position from his little league coach. Probably those bums in Anaheim.
  11. I just returned from dealing with the kids. The mood here seems.....icier?
  12. I’m in Fargo. Yeah, I need to try mix in the less exciting light beers. Not only for my waistline but for my faculties. Who’d Have thought that when you drink beer with twice the ABV of regular domestics you get dopey twice as fast?
  13. Tonight I have had a local beer from Drekker called Ectogasm and a Pseudo Sue from a brewery in Iowa.
  14. I like this Berrios drama, all this adversity builds character. I’d know, I’ve got an easy job, I’m drinking expensive beer, have a happy family and I got no character.
  15. I liked the fact that he had plenty of success in the AL prior to moving to the NL, so I wanted him earlier in the year, but yeah those red flags are getting to be concerning. If toe taps and velocity are his biggest issues, it does seem like Wes Johnson might be the right man to get him straightened out, but it's not like we've seen enough to do anything better than cross our fingers, so I'd look at other targets first. Though I'd still probably circle back after getting someone of more significance.
  16. Great, does that mean I’ve got a mea culpa due as well?
  17. God forbid they don’t win every game against every bad team and lead the whole game.
  18. Ok, let’s get a couple more. Who’s warming in the pen?
  19. Why would Dick want Cruz pinch run for with two outs when he’ll be running anyway, but not one? Keep Cruz in the lineup, at this point odds are there’ll be extra innings.
