  1. I’m not sure why you run out the two curve-ballers back to back.
  2. Maybe they’ll buy a round for the fans.
  3. Well they already did it once this year, and for a guy without a position. With the Twins no less. I don't know about realistic timelines, but it looks like many if not most teams these days, even rebuilding ones, want controllable MLB ready players they can run out to the field to show the fans they aren't actually rebuilding. Seems like there is a Jake Cave or two in most trades these days involving multiple players moving from one club.
  4. All areas of the organization appear to now revolve around gathering, analyzing and utilizing as much data as possible. We're still going to see draft busts, that's likely inevitable, but at this time I don't think it's going to be for a lack of due diligence.
  5. I'd agree, there's been 6 GMs during during that run and all three of those picks were overseen by only one regime. From what I'm seeing from the club now, I'm much more comfortable that the organization is getting optimal intel on the guys they are selecting.
  6. I'd take Garret, Iglesis or Stephenson. The Reds think they're close to contending though, I'm not sure they'd move any of them. But since they have three good controllable bullpen arms, maybe. Even if the Twins were willing to pay division rival prices for Hand, I kind of suspect Cleveland wouldn't work with the Twins. I can see why an up-and-coming team would be willing to trade within the division, but there's going to be a bit of resentment from the team getting knocked off of the pedestal. I doubt Detroit would have the same reservations, but I don't want Greene. He'll be giving Sano a workout if he's closing games. As much as I'm enjoying Sano so far this year, I don't want to put the game in his, or any of the infielder's hands in the 9th.
  7. Yeah Hunter and Varitek in consecutive picks was/would have been pretty impressive. Though, then the Twins might have gone Prior over Mauer seven years later. Also AJ Pierzynski probably never develops so no Nathan/Liriano trade. Wow, I played revisionist history and talked myself OUT of Jason Varitek? Huh, I did not see that coming when I started this post.
  8. It wasn't me, but I seem to recall several Benintendi fans around here; some people swear by the Golden Spike Award winners, and good lord, after seeing the past winners, maybe we all should, the odds don't get much better than that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Spikes_Award
  9. I like to hear as well, but since the team has a nice long homestand that would make sense. Bringing them in while the club was on a 10 game road trip probably wouldn't have made as much of an impression on the young men.
  10. I think if anything, this along with guys like Eades and Wimmers show that there's no such thing as a "high floor" when drafting pitchers. More often than not, just draft the guys with the most potential because the percent chance that a "safe" player might make it compared to a "risky" player probably has a difference in the single digits.
  11. Wow, there wasn't even a need for that in terms of 40-man consideration. Are they trying to make a statement to the other struggling former prospects? Or was he really one of the first on the chopping block to make room for the new draftees? Looks like there are plenty of guys in Ft Myers ready for the next level.
  12. It will be hard to keep Garver from getting selected by the other players/manager. It would be pretty interesting if the Twins got two catchers in the game. Also, maybe I'm just superstitious, but I'm hoping no Twins are in the HR derby, seems to me several guys have done it and screwed up their swing for the rest of the season. Or maybe that's old news from last decade and that doesn't happen anymore.
  13. Yeah, I was a bit late coming back to this thread.
  14. While I thought Puig might do OK in that ballpark, he's been such a basket case it shouldn't be surprising that he didn't adjust to change well. I disliked every one of those players the Reds got back. The Reds ate more money than LA did taking back Homer Bailey and they could have used that money so much better in free agency.
  15. While I'm a bit jealous as we've seen other clubs signing players already, it seems to me that lately the Twins have been making a production out of it and they've been waiting until multiple players are able to make it to Minneapolis so they can have some ceremonious signings in front of media and then meet-and-greets. If that's how it goes, it might drive us crazy, but that's pretty nice that they're doing it for these young guys who are probably already pretty stoked about it in the first place.
  16. A lot of the guys I'd like probably won't be terribly expensive in terms of prospects. Though there are a couple of elite guys I really want who will probably cost more than that, but they probably won't be available until close to the deadline, if at all.
  17. I'd take Vince Velasquez, looks like the Phillies are finally about out of patience with him, but I think he's going to be a really good BP arm once he gets accustomed to it. Though he might not be that guy until next year. It seems to me it's the season after being converted to the pen full-time when the guys really take off.
  18. If the trailing team has to play by a stricter set of rules to protect the other team’s pride, might as well just call the game after 8 innings during a no hitter so as to ensure there’s no hurt feelings.
  19. 88 MPH fastballs historically play better in the NL than they do the AL. Keuchel would also be feeding Sano grounders all day, which isn't usually the most optimal way to get outs.
  20. Yeah, I agree that he's always been suspect, but I'd also pass on Stroman and anyone else that's going to give the Twins very suspect infield defense more work than they have to. While not traditionally appealing, I'll take the pitchers who get the batters to hit balls to Buxton, Kepler and Rosario instead. Well, I mean I want the pitchers who get outs all on their own first and foremost.
  21. Seems to me teams who don't want to appear to be rebuilding often end up going for "MLB ready" players in trade so they have something to stick on the field right away. Because of that, even though many of us would probably put diminished value on them, I'd bet Fernando Romero, (a healthy) Stephen Gonsalves and Luis Arreaz would appeal as substantial pieces to many teams. Probably not the top pieces depending on the target, but I'd bet they'd draw significantly more interest than most of us would think.
  22. To be fair, that no-hitter, from a combined 4 pitchers, probably would have been the crowning sports accomplishment of the city of Hartford, including when the Whalers played there. What could have been, I mean can't you just picture it on a sign outside of town? Welcome to Hartford, Home of Four Pitchers Who Combined to No Hit the Yankees Double A Affiliate
  23. Not that I wanted Keuchel in any way, but if we had local reporters covering our team that could get us information like this and critique it, I wonder if it would put more pressure on ownership to be more aggressive and forthcoming?
