  1. Nice move, tempt the kids with hometown glory and a teammate they're already friends with. Or if that doesn't work, just offer the one that throws 97 MPH the other kid's share of the bonus money too.
  2. Pizza party. Honestly though, if these are the guys they like best, there's no reason not to spend it all. This may be a completely bonkers idea (at least for a billionaire) but if they did save up some money early in the draft, I'd be more than happy to see the guys at the end get a bonus big enough to pay more than a month's worth of rent.
  3. Hope his FB velocity has improved from the 79 MPH mark coming out of HS! https://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Playerprofile.aspx?ID=419447 But looking at Max Prep, it seems he never pitched in HS https://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/matthew-swain/cxoDFK3wEeO00gAmVebEWg/gendersport/baseball-stats.htm He'll be like clay in the hands of Wes Johnson, I'm already calling it, this 6'7" specimen is going to be the steal of the draft!
  4. Not only Canadian, but French Canadian, ugh!
  5. He's only 20 so there's probably sign-ability issues. Of course the Twins affinity for power bats and positional flexibility should be a good selling point to this young man. Though probably not as good of a selling point as a well over-slot bonus.
  6. With all these college seniors, how much money has this team banked? Are they just going to draft one of the HS kids at pick 40 and offer him all of the money?
  7. Probably only fractionally less than will come before it. How many great pitchers come out of a typical draft? 1 or 2? It's starting to look like the team believes finding great young pitching is less reliable than Frankensteining good arms from pitchers other clubs failed with.
  8. Even if they were drafting college seniors, they still probably wouldn't be ready for 3-4 years. That's a lifetime in MLB terms; for all we know in 3-4 years the team is going to have lots of arms and need a bunch of hitters to step up.
  9. I'm kind of bummed about the lack of HS kids, though I suppose they can still try to get some later, if they're somehow able to get some of these college juniors to go underslot. I'm less concerned about the power/positional profile of these middle infielders. There seems to be a lot of them so it's likely someone will stick. Also, squeezing power out of the bats seems to be a new talent of this club. If they truly have found a trick to it, then getting guys who everyone else is unsure about developing power is a pretty smart move.
  10. In a vacuum, I'd send Astudillo down, but he also gives the team the option to have Garver and Castro in the lineup at the same time. Which is a pretty good option from my view. Can Arreaz get some 3B reps down in AAA? I mean, I'd let him play SS at Rochester too on the off chance that he shows he can play the position, but I also don't really much care about the likely collapse of Rochester's defense because of it, and their manager probably does.
  11. I usually like the unexpected picks, they give me way more hope that the front office didn’t fall victim to group think.
  12. He wasn’t one of them? I honestly don’t know.
  13. Is it over? It feels like it should be over.
  14. Smith? But none of them are my top choices. I’d like to try to get Amir Garrett, Rasiel Iglesias or Robert Stephenson. The Reds look like a team that thinks they’ll contend soon so normally wouldn’t move youngish controllable arms, but they have three such guys in the pen and other holes to fill, they might be open to moving one. I’d like to get Roenis Elias as well. I really like the starter-turned-relievers a full season after their conversion. I’d do Ian Kennedy too, he should have been moved to the pen years ago, looks like it’s paying off. I’ve always had a thing for Daniel Hudson too, but at this point it’s more about hoping to finally hit on the arm talent than anything. Sean Doolittle isn’t a big arm, but he’s gotten it done in the NL and AL so I’d trust him. If I could get some better anecdotes maybe I’d be OK with Giles, but man, this club seems pretty tight, I’d be worried he’s a clubhouse cancer. I’d take Kimbrel on a 2 year+ deal, but not one year. With this much time off I think he’d be a liability.
  15. I’m just wondering what assumptions in regards to performance people have for these two unsigned pitchers? Based on the track record of in-season signings, my take is that that’d both be much more likely to be terrible than they would good. What are other people’s thoughts on what would make them buck that trend?
  16. Three double plays? Ugh, this offense is hard to root for.
  17. Lets start handing out a few more extensions!
  18. Every other Twin from last year who got to participate in spring training saw their strikeout rates drop. Not hyperbole. Every. Single Hitter. I’m not worried about the guy with an OPS over .900
  19. I want to predict the Twins get Kimbrel, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s dead set on staying on the East Coast, and that’s half of the reason he didn’t get signed this off season. I will make a bold prediction though: Kuechel will remain unsigned.
  20. That’s probably also why you got “stuck”. Is TSA at least wearing gloves and using gentle touches this time?
  21. Cody Stashak!
  22. Yet because he's German and lived there most of his live, I'm willing to bet everyone thinks it's fun to make German jokes and bust out their best German curse words around him.
  23. He always looked smug to me. But to be fair, I always picture him in a Yankees uniform (rounding the bases on a Perkins walk off HR) and everyone in a Yankees uniform looks smug.
  24. If the team was still running with Adams or DeJong, I actually would have been OK with kicking the tires on Rodney, mostly because if he would have regained his form, it would have been a fun kick in the teeth to the A's. But as fine of a line as our no-name bullpen is walking, their current track record curries more faith than Rodney's old track record does. I'd guess currently Littell is at the top of the discard pile right now, and I'd rather see if he has what it takes to be part of the long-term solution to the pen.
