  1. I think Cleveland should start with retiring his number before they create a song for him.
  2. That seems really light on the Twins side to me for Giles. Even with my built in hesitations I’d jump in that, and I’ve long been a Thorpe fan.
  3. I've been on and off the Giles bandwagon all year. At this moment, I'm fairly favorable to the idea. If he's been disruptive in Toronto, there doesn't seem to be anyone reporting on it. That face punching thing still gives me pause though. This guy doesn't seem terribly in control of himself. I might try to get another reliever first though for immediate assistance and then try to drag Toronto along long enough to see if Pittsburgh or Cincinnati become sellers, because while Felipe Vazquez and Raisel Iglesias may cost a bit more, all three probably start with similar high end prospects, and I'd much rather have one of those two.
  4. I hope they have a 3rd laminated sheet with GMs they believe do not have strong analytical leanings. Scratch that. Our new age GM probably should be paperless by now, using editable PDFs and shareable Excel sheets instead
  5. Yeah, he's not my top target, but definitely one I'd like to consider and one who may be available now. My top target would be Felipe Vazquez, so I'm hoping the Pirates fall out of contention ASAP. He might be a tough or even impossible get, but the Pirates have been making some terrible trades lately and I'd like to get in on that action.
  6. Ha, well hope we find out. What went wrong in those two years the Twins didn't win the WS though?
  7. So once they disappoint you there's no going back? There's nothing they can do to make up for failing us in some way. That sounds like a way to never enjoy following a sports team.
  8. The Twins should go back to the Royals then. I bet if they took enough of Ian Kenndy's contract the Royals would be happy to dump him sooner rather than later, and he's a guy I think is going to have a really good second career in the pen; I always like those starters-turned-relievers, though usually earlier in their career. But his velocity has already jumped 3 MPH and he's using his cutter now more than ever, which sound like Twins-preferred changes.
  9. Wasn't the point that we should have been disappointed last offseason too? Brock and I have both said we want and need bullpen help. Why are we required to want or like Craig Kimbrel? There are lots of big name players who I don't care for and don't value nearly as much as other fans do.
  10. Either way, I'm definitely hoping for multiple moves.
  11. I don't have concerns about his peripherals, I think a reliever with good velocity can have a long career even with year to year hiccups. I think good velocity can right most ships eventually. I'd just like to see the comps of pitchers who signed late, or came back midseason after missing all of spring with injuries who have performed to decent levels. I can only think of guys who have flopped, and lots of them, but I could be convinced otherwise if I saw other data to refute that perception.
  12. Wasn't just about everyone?
  13. Yeah, I mean I'd agree. I probably adds content, but probably not qualify content, which then only leads to "why didn't my team get such and such ranked guy" and "my team crushed with these guys I've never heard of" stuff. Even more mainstream and justifiable rankings are starting to feel a bit click-bait-y these days. Though I still too often click them....
  14. I'd guess most folks would agree the team should be targeting multiple bullpen upgrades, but they'll have to do it in a couple waves if they want to be proactive. I won't list all of the guys I want as I'm guessing many of them would initially turn some stomachs without lots of context, but it would be nice for the team to start working Seattle, Toronto, KC, Baltimore and SF now for immediate help, then wait out Pittsburgh, Washington, Cincinnati, AZ and Oakland until they waive the white flag.
  15. For a team that's looking at things other than ERA, I think there may be a lot of good relievers available who are relatively affordable that might not get fans excited early but will show they were more than worthy of a trade in short order. But I'm also cool with making an uncomfortable trade for a bigger named reliever too. Though I'm not sure if there are really any available outside of Giles, who I'm warming to, but not quite banging the drum for.
  16. Why only a month? How many rusty pitchers have rebounded that quickly?
  17. And to be clear, I like the deal for the Cubs. For the last month or so I’ve been saying that I would like to get Kimbrel on a three year deal, like the Cubs did, because I think he’ll rebound just fine. I just thought the Twins shouldn’t count on him this year and would need to figure out other trade options because he’d be just like every other pitcher who has signed late.
  18. Well then my answer is there aren’t any world class relievers available, but there will almost certainly be many better than Kimbrel will be this year, who I expect to be rusty and resentful.
  19. If I made a list of pitchers who didn’t pitch for nine months who were bad and you made a list of pitchers who didn’t pitch for nine months and were good, I’d bet my list would be significantly longer. I just don’t understand why there is such assumption that Kimbrel will be any good let alone world class.
  20. If the Twins really were after Kimbrel, the end of this game shouldn’t be stopping their momentum in finding upgrades.
  21. I like to cheer against the Cubs anyway.
  22. Right, they’re going to need to trade to upgrade the pen. I’d bet against Kimbrel being some kind of get out of jail free card.
  23. My money is on Parker being better than Kimbrel the rest of the year. And that’s not saying much, I’m pegging Parker for about a 4.50 ERA. There are better options than a guy who skipped spring training and hasn’t pitched since last year.
  24. I’d have been happy to have Kimbrel in 2020 and 2021, but this team is winning and I wouldn’t count on him helping much in 2019. If this team wants help this year, they should be looking at pitchers who have actually pitched this year.
  25. If they have to give them a 500K each, are those two the best HS/JC kids to try to temp? I wouldn't want them just because they're local.
