  1. I am interested in Stephenson, Garrett and Iglesias. The Reds might not sell these controllable arms, but since they have three, they’d be crazy not to listen when they have so many other holes to fill.
  2. I might have some interest in Smith, but I don't hold him in that high of regard. Even a healthy Urena wouldn't do much for me. I like the proposal to eat some money to get back good players, it's just that Miami's roster gives me a headache. I don't think they have enough players worth 30M+ to make it worth my interest. There will be better free agents that will cost less than that, or they could hand out more extensions if nothing else.
  3. Nick Anderson is a good story (for Miami) but I think he's already begun to turn into a pumpkin. He's rebounded in June but May was brutal. I hope he does well but two good months out of three for a 28-year-old rookie isn't going to get me too excited; he's not someone I'd be interested in in terms of eating $22M next year.
  4. If we couldn’t verb nouns then there’s no way I’d be hammered right now.
  5. My top targets were Jeurys Familia, David Robertson and Joakim Soria. There were a lot of wrong answers this winter.
  6. I wouldn't target rentals, there are plenty of relievers likely available who will have more control and probably less helium than Smith. Not that I wouldn’t take him, but there are others Id prefer.
  7. Yeah, thinking about the bullpen gives me an itchy rash too.
  8. That reminds me of an old thought experiment: “If someone hits well in Kansas City, does anyone hear it?” But no, he’s been dreadful.
  9. He’s found 3 MPH on his FB since the move to relief and can go multiple innings. I think he’s got a nice second career ahead of him in the pen.
  10. Norm or Dave would be a nice get for Jay. Otherwise, oof, they should just give the Twins monetary considerations.
  11. If anything, they should still move him back to the rotation as trade bait. His value may be low now, but he's still a recently top prospect and teams love to get these kind of guys with arm talent and think they can fix them. Not that I'd be surprised if he did get fixed.
  12. I'm still a fan of Rogers. 2nd best is obviously open competition though.
  13. Is there a jaw drop emoji that demonstrates unexpected but welcome surprise?
  14. Just wanted to say great job to Blake and all of our other game thread opener volunteers. The site put some faith in you folks to keep these going and you've all been knocking it out of the park. Nice work everyone.
  15. I could be wrong, but I thought Reed actually has some good pitches and good velocity. Achter and Anthony Slama were junkball righties throwing 89-90 MPH. I thought Jake Reed had mid-90s stuff, has that changed?
  16. With all the promotions of no-name journeymen and prospects who lost their luster years ago, it just seems so weird that Reed has been passed over for three years now. I mean the Twins have already had 18 guys throw relief innings this year and you can add in 15 completely different guys that pitched out of the pen last year but are already gone. And no, that doesn't count the position players. There's got to be more to this story, how is it possible Reed is 33rd in line for the job?
  17. I wasn't able to watch the game yesterday but I followed the game thread. Were the TV folks mentioning a change in velocity for Pineda yesterday? Because Brooks Baseball says he's gained almost 2 MPH on his four-seamer since he's returned. That's encouraging.
  18. Even 20-year-olds fresh out of AA ball wouldn't be doing as bad as the arms in the pen are doing right now. Guys in the HR derby get out more than the batters facing the Twins bullpen are right now. I have to think a lot of this is psychological. But that doesn't change anything, if these guys are all rattled, then they gotta all go. Even if they rebound, who wants a fragile pitcher in the post season anyway?
  19. How many adults just happen to pick up chew? I don't care what Buxton does, especially when he's at home. It's the 16-year-olds watching him that are making that decision and 16-year-olds make 5 poor decision for every 1 good decision. He doesn't have to be a role model, but if he doesn't want to do the right thing by not perpetuating the idea that ballplayers have to chew, then I have no problem if someone else tells him he can't do it at the ballpark anymore.
  20. As someone who might be tempted by that 3000 calorie platter, they can go right ahead and get rid of that as well. If getting rid of chew 10 years ago would have stopped a young Byron Buxton from starting, then it wouldn't have just been PR, and if getting rid of it now stops Byron Buxton from influencing next generation, that's not PR either.
  21. And I've said you have valid points with alcohol even if I don't agree with them all, again, what is your justification for keeping tobacco other than "If I can't have mine you can't have yours"?
  22. A little help for us visually impaired posters?
  23. Chewing tobacco is 6%, not overall tobacco use. And like most people, I don't mind if my kids become adults and have a drink or two because I know if they use moderation, they will be healthy and fine. Your one dip a day is nice not the norm; people considered tobacco users are not afforded moderation due to the nature of the product and the additional addictive properties pumped into them, they are by design, unhealthy, alcohol in moderation is not. But again, not the point. If you think alcohol should be banned if tobacco is banned, fine, but alcohol is more ingrained in society and would be difficult to prohibit again, so let's start with the easy one.
  24. Alcohol is dangerous when used illegally. I'm fine if tobacco can stays, as long as the nicotine is just removed. We have a long history of banning harmful ingestible chemicals, I'm not sure why this is treated differently. If nicotine were removed, tobacco would be on more square footing with alcohol, as booze is something that only a small percentage of people are addicted to while nearly everyone who uses tobacco is addicted.
  25. I'm a beer drinker, and I don't think your argument against alcohol advertising is out of line at all. I might not be in favor of it, but there's plenty of merit there. But it doesn't take away from the fact that these guys are perpetuating a habit that no one wants their kids picking up.
