  1. Unless they're MVP candidates, extending young players is still cheap until at least year three, and if Arraez isn't playing a premium position and doesn't possess at least league average power, his arbitration figures probably aren't even going to be very high. Giving him $25M now to buy out two free agent years instead of $35M in 2021 doesn't seem like a great bargain when you factor in the risks of regression, or the possibility of significant injury.
  2. While he might develop more pop, I don't think his swing is geared for that, so unless he revamps his approach at the plate, I think any increase in HR would be minimal to moderate. Rod Carew probably would have hit more HR had he changed approaches but then may not have won those batting titles. What's strange to me is that he's already renowned for his plate discipline but I can't think of a Twin who has had more balls called strikes by the umpires this season than Arraez. It almost seems like the umpires are instinctively putting the rookie in his place.
  3. I literally finally caught up live to the game when Torreyes stepped into the box. It was meant to be.
  4. If the Twins play the Yankees, in the games that Paxton isn't starting I hope the Twins keep the lineup pretty balanced. The Yankees rotation is terrible and their pen is really solid; I'd be worried they might try Milwaukee's trick from last year where the Brewers ran Wade Miley out for one batter to ensure a righty heavy lineup for the Dodgers (who still won the game).
  5. I like Thorpe, but I've yet to see anything from him to indicate he'll be fine in the rotation. Same with Gonsalves and Stewart and as much as I appreciate them stepping up, I don't think many people would believe Dobnik or Smeltzer and their soft-tossing, strikeout-resistant skill sets have much of a long-term future in the rotation.
  6. ****Moderator Note**** Considering the sensitive nature of this topic, I hope everyone can use their best mature judgments when considering their posts.
  7. Considering there is no legal requirements for employers in this country to give employees PTO, and the people running those companies tend to loathe giving anything away for free, I'm guessing they've done enough research to see that there are considerable benefits to giving people time off from work.
  8. The suspension is going to cause him to sign at a discount. The Twins might have no interest, and if they didn’t they’d be justified, but I’ll bet whichever team signs him, it will look like a bargain by June.
  9. Yes but only because it used to be River Pheonix until Keanu offed him in the Viper Room. I’m a bit hazy though, it’s been awhile since I saw that movie.
  10. I follow you. Your suggesting that Keanu Reeves offed him, quite plausible I’d say.
  11. If he’s going to figure it out, I like his chances with Wes Johnson better than with the minor league pitching coaches.
  12. Wikipedia says he died in Idaho. I wonder how a guy from California who played in Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago and KC ended up there? Wait a second.....there’s an AL central city missing from his resume.
  13. Always on the West Coast.
  14. I wouldn’t want to either, but the team thus far has one starter aside from Perez. I could see them paying for a safety net.
  15. I was raised to look at the inner beauty. What’s within the wallet is what really matters.
  16. Well prior to the second inning I would have put it at 50%. He’d been pretty good four of his last five starts. This rotation has been a roller coaster all year and we got three weeks left. We don’t watch out and he could still be starting game one.
  17. Eh, maybe Minor. The other two only have faces a mother could love.
  18. Forgive me if it’s been covered already, by why in the hell are the Angels playing a 5:00 PST game for Cleveland? They aren’t even playing tomorrow.
  19. It probably only occurred by chance due to all the injuries, but it sure seems like the Twins have a high-contact offense against Strasburg and his strikeout arsenal, I like it. The top three guys will hopefully eat through his pitch count early. Also, a nice 3rd inning rain delay would be excellent strategy. Washington would surely love to ride Strasburg as long as possible while the Twins probably don't mind bullpenning early with Perez in there.
  20. Putting Cleveland's magic number to win the division at 23 sure does make things look a heck of a lot better.
  21. I don't know, and I don't really care since it's over and done with, but IF he spent his offseason in the DR, which most DR players seem to do, my guess would be he just picked it up there and had been popping those pills regularly after the team asked him to lose weight over the winter, as teams are wont to do with their larger players. I doubt the trainers are hanging out in Santo Domingo too often. I wouldn't advocate for keeping players from their home towns, but it sure would be nice if the Twins (and other teams) could find a compelling way to have their players and staff from all levels of the organization to call Ft Myers their winter home.
  22. Oof, so the red shirts gotta survive in this scenario?
  23. So you find it more likely that Baldelli is purposefully losing than the idea that his players were unavailable. What do you suppose his motivation is for throwing games? He's certainly not very good at it, the team is on pace for 100 wins.
