    I'm not advocating for trading Gray, mostly because I don't think he'd get nearly the return we'd like, but doing so would be the opposite of Panic. This article has it completely backwards. The bold and aggressive move would be to pivot to the younger guys and sell off expiring contracts. Panicking would be staying the course hoping the vet bats turn things around and save everyone's jobs.

    I don't think the Twins get the windfall of prospects back for Gray that we'd like. With his age, non-electric stuff and half year of control, I think the return would underwhelm pretty much all of us. Plus, is the front office really that confident in their jobs that they think they can sell off the best players, miss the playoffs again and survive? I think sticking with Gallo and Kepler shows they're a bit desperate; underperforming vets are a GM's favorite scapegoats to try to (falsely) shift blame. Risking the season on rookies is always going to fall on the laps of the front office. I think if they were willing to risk the season for the sake of a better future, they'd have started doing so months ago with what should have been much, much easier decisions.

    Congrats to Trey! He was in this organization a long time. Might have gotten a shot here had that COVID 2020 season not wiped out his AA promotion season.

    Yeah, no idea what's going on there. Four different GM's since they last won a playoff series (I know, Twins fans should shut their mouth about that) and five GM's since that World Series team. Plus an open wallet as far as free agency goes. Has to start at the top.

    I'm guessing the Dodgers will want him most, but the Angels will be reluctant to trade him to the cross town rivals, which likely would make them the favorite to sign him long term. I bet they're the rare team that is more worried about regional competitiveness over divisional and league competitiveness. Man, how have the Angels squandered the formative years of two of the greatest baseball players we'll ever see. The Twins recent failures pale in magnitude to the complete ineptitude the Angels have shown the last decade and a half. Not at all giving the Twins a pass, it's just insane what the Angels have done, or not done I guess.

    Fun, a HS kid in round 19. Guessing he's a longshot to sign, but you never know. Probably a good position to take the chance on, since 1B don't go nearly as high as they used to unless they're an elite talent.

    Either way, catcher is such a crap shoot, I'm starting to think they should deal with the position like they have been the rotation. If you can't grow one yourself (and they still may), trade for one that's MLB ready or even has a couple years under his belt. I think a catcher in A ball is even more unpredictable than the other positions. Which are already extremely unpredictable.

    Yeah. The Cardinals always seem to have these HOF/legacy types and I don't think they've dealt one since 2003 when they traded JD Drew, Tino Martinez and Scott Rolen in the same offseason. Whether they have them for two years, or 20 years, guys like Jim Edmonds, Albert Pujols, Chris Carpenter, Adam Wainwright, Larry Walker, Yadier Molina, Troy Glaus, Matt Holliday, Lance Berkman, Carlos Beltran, Lance Lynn, Matt Carpenter or Marcell Ozuna always leave or retire when their contract is done, not before. Also, dang, that list makes me jealous.

    Whether they move Gray or not (almost certainly not), I'd rather cycle through the AAA and AA pitchers and do bullpen games/piggy-backing than I would give Keuchel a roster spot. Don't care how poor their ERAs are in the minors, I'd rather audition and give reps to those guys than gnash my teeth about wasting this season and next giving pointless innings to a washed up vet.

    Maybe it's just because the Cardinals are never in position to sell so I'm unaccustomed to it, but I'm of the mind Arenado and Goldschmidt are staying put. Their offense is a pretty good mix of high quality vets and promising youth, I think they hold tight and try to fix the rotation in the offseason to try to make another run next year. There are quite a few good looking starting pitchers available in free agency, and they're not shy about spending. But would I go for Arenado if he's available? For sure.

    Sorry, but I'm going the complete opposite direction here, I want him nowhere near this roster. His junkballs may get out some AAA hitters, but more than a spot start or two at the majors and I'll bet he'll get crushed. He never could miss bats, so he'll make the Twins suspect infield defense make all his outs for him, but on top of that, the last several years he's giving out free passes like they're going out of style. He's not good. He's no more than Tommy Milone now, break glass in case of emergency, than DFA when you need the roster spot back the next day.

    Don't know much about them, but I like the size of the last two pitchers taken.

    Yeah, you'd have to assume so. It used to be that several HS kids drafted in the first ten rounds didn't sign, but looking back, I only see one unsigned HS player drafted in the first ten rounds, since 2020. In 2021 Houston whiffed on one.

    I can't believe the Twins took four HS kids in the top 6. That's a pretty anti-Twins thing to do lately, and I like it, assuming they're all signable.

    I don't see the pattern. This is the area of the draft the Twins traditionally start going hard at college arms. I think you're looking for alternate reasons to rip on the front office since the overall feeling is that they actually did well last night.

    I don't presume to think a half year of production is indicative of the kind of player you'll get.

    A Mahle extension wouldn't bother me, but the offensive free agent class next year looks pretty terrible again. Some intriguing starting pitchers though, so if they're going to spend, that might be where they look. In which case, the rotation will be fairly full for the foreseeable future. Never hurts to have extra arms though I guess.

    Tampa would have traded high on Kepler after 2019. And to their credit, they probably would have been able to tell what would happen to him offensively after the league deadened the ball.

    I don't tend to like players who've only had a half of a bounce back season, I think it's just as likely they revert back to a pumpkin when they uproot and change teams. Most of the offensive players are out for me, because that's how I see most. However, Cody Bellinger's K% has somehow dropped 9% this year. I don't know how that happened, but it's back to his ROY/MVP era levels. If that's legit, I'd be interested. Possibly significantly interested. Mark Canha is about as boring as it gets, but he's a right handed outfielder and does draw a ton of walks, so I could see the value there as well. Justin Turner also gets on base at a high level, and he does have that name-brand cache that often elevates clubs intangibly. I don't like to rate guys based on "intangibles" but if the rest of the club buys in, that can be pretty valuable. I don't really think Boston's selling though unless the wheels completely fall off. They're only two games back. I don't believe the Twins will trade off Gray or Maeda, BUT, depending on which one they moved, doing so in conjunction with trading FOR Jordan Montgomery would either improve the rotation or mitigate the loss. The fact that he's kept his production across two teams and two leagues makes him a guy that I'd like much more than most. Getting a reliver is always a good idea, but I'll still never trust any single one of them.

    Anthony Prato is throwing his hat in the ring for one of those MLB OF or utility spots. He lacks the high end pop, but it sure looks like he's taking professional at bats, which obviously is what everyone's been complaining about with the MLB roster.

    That's pretty new though. Atlanta went about a decade and a half where all of their top prospects were stud pitchers and all of them flamed out, mostly due to injuries.

    He's had an OPS over .760 once. Only twice has he had an OPS+ over league average, the second being 2020 which I'm fairly confident in saying was a let down considering his 2019 season appeared to be his big breakout. He was a top 50 prospect, I think saying he's hit below expectations nearly every year is an understatement if anything. Teams don't usually ride out these kinds of players for a decade, particularly not at the most easily replaceable position on the field. . If he was a Randy Bush, who was a rotational player who'd always give way to the new prospects and free agents, Kepler probably would be beloved. But he's not, they've basically ran him out to start since day 1. They've made a concerted attempt to upgrade every single other position on the diamond, but never right field.
