Yeah, have to think Herbert will like this better than what he's been used to. McDaniel did cut his teeth as a run game coordinator, but I'm pretty sure nobody noticed that Tua Tagovialoa of all people led the league in completion percentage in 2024 and led the league in passing yards in 2023.

Yeah, Salah (and pretty much every other coach) never had a chance with the Jets. So much dysfunction. I'm not sure he's not walking into the same situation though. Tennessee did hire a new GM last year, but still, that GM hired and kept an offensive staff including Nick Holz, Bo Hardegree and Mike McCoy who seem to have absolutely no business being in charge of raising a QB you drafted 1.01. I mean there is nothing in their resumes that suggest they are capable of creating a top end franchise QB. They all came from either Jacksonville, where everyone failed Trevor Lawrence for four years, or Las Vegas, which needs no explanation for criticism. I too don't understand the Hafley love. But I also didn't understand it when the Packers hired him. What exactly did he do at BC? Not win. Not develop NFL talent. GB had a good but not elite defense, which pretty much describes every GB defense for the last 30 years. Also, now Miami will surely be switching from a 3-4 to a 4-2 defense. Not sure that's going to gel with their highest paid player Bradley Chubb and their recent first round pick Chop Robinson. Last year's pick Kenneth Grant should be fine, and I'm guessing their other highly paid vet Zach Sieler can also go inside. But that's a lot of money and draft capital you're risking by switching up the defense.

Twins trade for Tristan Gray..,

There was a time when rostering a no-name, ageing, journeyman player was quaint and interesting and people could cheer for the feel good story. But when that's the only kind of player you bring in, you're just going to get everyone to cheer against them. -
My bad, it was the end of the work day and I was skipping ahead. I thought they had them drafting McDonald, the Oregon safety and the Florida center. Edit: Ah, I'm guessing the Vikings have two 3rd round picks. I didn't stick around for that one. I'm also guessing the Vikings aren't going to reach for a character guy.

Don't know enough about the last two picks, but I like the direction.

2026 Minnesota Twins International Signings

Not once did I trash these players, and in multiple other threads I've acknowledged that they hired a Kevin Goldstein a few years back and hopefully that will start showing results. Still, either by choice or by folly, they still are not in position to sign the top international free agents and it's been that way for a decade now. I suggested that they try a different approach since this one hasn't been paying off, that shouldn't be that objectionable. For some reason this topic seems pointedly personal to you. If you want to share the source of your expertise feel free.- 42 replies

Probably. At least for underclassmen. True seniors like Jalen Hurts could still slip though I'd assume.
-
For sure. Not a fan. Funny though, if he leads them down for a game winning drive, I could see him going in the second round. If he doesn't I could see him going in the sixth.

Pretty sure these are things you don't want to think too hard about south of the Mason/Dixon line.

2026 Minnesota Twins International Signings
nicksaviking replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's speculative to suggest the Twins haven't been good at identifying international players under the current front office? Because as it stands, since 2016 the count of useful MLB players found this way for the Twins is zero. That's not a huge miss rate, that's an infinite miss rate. It used to be a strength of this franchise, and it's still a major pipeline for MLB talent. Phrase it how you like, but the Twins need to improve their interpersonal relationships with young players. But I will say this, if as you suggest every team knows who the most exciting 13 or 14 year olds are, than the Twins need to be better at predicting which of them are going to be the better 16 year olds on signing day, and ultimately, the better 25-year-olds who will win games at the MLB level. Tall task, I know. But other clubs are still doing it so it can be accomplished.- 42 replies

I've seen Elijah Sarrat getting mocked in the first round. I thought that Mesidor from Miami looked like he'd be a good DE in a 3-4 defense, but they just said his weight was 270 lb, which is probably too light. He looks like he's 290 lb. though. I like his motor, but he looks too bulky to be an NFL edge guy.

Unless one were to buy into 100 PA for a 30-year-old journeyman, Alex Jackson isn't very good. My hope is that while they were late to come to this conclusion, the Twins simply ended up realizing that counting on a guy like this who has NO options was a poor decision in the first place, and that Jackson is highly unlikely to make the team out of spring training.

2026 Minnesota Twins International Signings
nicksaviking replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well that's perfect then. You sign two +2M plus players, and then 18 of these. Instead of five 500K players and 15 of these. Honestly, I think this validates my argument. If it's truly dart throws, throw at a couple big prizes since these 10K to 150K targets are paying off as much as the 500K targets.- 42 replies

2026 Minnesota Twins International Signings

I don't think they've given out a contract like that since Wander Javier? And that was back when Terry Ryan was in charge. And I'm pretty sure the Twins have yet to see one of their international signings under Derek Falvey reach the majors. So I might argue that it's time for a different approach. Even if it's just once.- 42 replies

Well so far I count the A's, Reds, Royals, Giants, Rays, Tigers, Angels and Cardinals among teams that gave out +2M contracts. And then if you want to go by prospect ranking, here's the top 20: Any list that has the Pirates on it twice can't have any relevance to competitiveness.- 42 replies

2026 Minnesota Twins International Signings
nicksaviking replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't buy the quantity over quality argument. We can even set aside the notion that across all sports, winning teams tend to "go for it" while prudent half-measures and hedging your bets tend to be the hallmark of mediocre franchises. The real problem with this argument is that even if the Twins signed one or two of the top international prospects, they STILL could have signed 20 players in all. Instead of signing five guys in the 500K to 1.3M range, you sign one or two of the top players and then sign a bunch of 20K to 100K players. If it's truly all about quantity, that approach should still fit the bill. But I'd guess the real reason the Twins aren't getting the top guys is because other organizations were faster to recognize them as top players a couple years ago. If the Twins identified, vetted, nurtured and built a relationship with a 15-year-old who two years later ended up being the top rated prospect, they wouldn't walk away from him, they'd crow about it and make sure Aaron Gleeman and Dan Hayes wrote articles about him.- 42 replies

Owners have to have their arms twisted to commit to 28-year-old experienced MLB players two years out, there is zero chance any deal offered two years ago to a 14, 15 or 16-year-old is anything more than a preliminary suggestion.- 42 replies

Anybody using a Steamdeck or another SteamOS device?
nicksaviking replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in The Sports Bar
I only know about 95% of the words you guys just said, but I'll ask my 15-year-old about this. He has an X-Box of some variety, the newest I think. And a switch. The Playstation has to be at least two decades old though. But there has been much talk about what will be needed when GTA 6 comes out. Seems like the last one came out when I was still age appropriate to enjoy all the murder and destruction. It feels like a guy in his late mid 40's shouldn't enjoy that stuff now, but I'm really excited to run over a bunch of people on the sidewalk and blow up police cars just to find out. -
Yeah, I would have replaced the GM too. Outside of the Diggs trade and drafting James Cook, they don't seem to acquire anyone who's better than average. But whether they have complete input or they are just good at working with what they've got, the recent DC's who have had success becaming HC's did so because of that side of the ball. Vrabel, Ryans and MacDonald have put together top tier defenses in a short amount of time. McDermott has had way more time and never came close to that level. The Bills D seems more like Todd Bowles and Raheem Morris caliber, and if the Bills didn't have Allen, TB and ATL level of success would likely be their ceiling.
-
Yeah, seems crazy from a national perspective, but I'm guessing Bills fans are happy about it. Outside of having the best QB on the planet, what is that team's identity? McDermott is a defensive head coach, yet that team has never been more than an average defense. They have a QB who can do it all, but they've never had more than one meaningful pass catcher per season, and many times not even one meaningful pass catcher. If they had an average QB instead of Allen, they're probably drafting in the top ten every year.
-
I'm not sure who's going to win the Super Bowl, but I am sure the champion will be worst team since the 2018 Eagles.
-
Long overdue.
-
Based on how things go with Stefanski and the QBs he's giving, Penix will have the leg amputated before camp opens. Though, I don't think Penix can ever be better than borderline average anyway.
-
Yeah, go Hawks. Darnold reaaaaaly needs to win that game. Everyone turned the page on him since the poor end of last year’s season with the Vikings. Oblique injury or not, I think the national narrative is going to flip again real quick if he struggles and they lose. Oh right, and most obviously, go Bills. Payton can get run over by a cement mixer on the way to the stadium too.
-
Rockies might not be the best example, and of course MLB wants expansion teams because it will increase overall profit. But after the novelty of the new teams wear off, it’s going to exasperate the competitive imbalance, which will eventually doom the league. These owners have put profit over the best interests of the league, the fans and the entire sport for decades. This is another example.
