  1. I don't really care as long as the Yankees lose. I've already started gathering Yankee memorabilia from recovering Yankee fans for my annual backyard Bad Ju-Ju Fire and Damnation bonfire. Donations welcome. Also feel free to send along any Irish whiskey... you know, to help start the bonfire. However don't be surprised if some spillage might occur. Slainte!
  2. Miranda and Wallner for sure, despite some TD fans claiming neither can field. I don't believe either player has had enough time at their regular positions to prove or disprove that complaint, but whatever, they can hit and Miranda has shown he can do it with men on base; a seemingly rare ability for Twins hitters. I'd also throw in Lewis but so far he's proven more Buxton-esque than reliable player. Not many teams can compete carrying book-end bench "resters". Though maybe Rest Home Rocco can stagger the two's rest days so at least one of them is on the field every game. Must be a spreadsheet for that...
  3. I don't care as long as there's a World Series patch on 'em at the end of the 2023 season.
  4. This could have been a more lengthy article. There's only about three Twins who don't have anything left to prove.
  5. Word down at Riley's Pub And Prognosticators is that Captain Checkdown has retained Hookem, Cookem and Snookem to launch his own legal suit against the NFL for deliberately scheduling him to play on Monday nights. "It's hard to justify my $50,000,000 salary when I stink up the joint on national TV," he argues. "How am I supposed to ask for another salary bump to $70,000,000 a season when I'm throwing passes two yards behind the line to Cook when he's surrounded by a linebacker, a cornerback and a safety? I got a family to feed, you know? I need a couple wide receivers capable of getting open." The Prognosticators at the baseball end of bar reported that the Twins' Falvey claims he's found another starting pitcher for next season, soon as he recovers from double Tommy John, a herniated disc and a deviated septum. "I'm sure Rocco can get a couple innings out of him before he hits the 50-pitch mark and has to go on the IL," Falvey insisted knowingly. "Maybe we can use him to close games." Riley accepts all the sports talk with a knowing grin. "The more the Twins and Vikings choke the more beer I sell and the more money I make," he says with a snorted laugh. "And that's not even considering what I take in when the Timberwolves start up. God, I love this state!"
  6. Yeah, we could pickup 10 Archers for the money we'd save on Correa. That's almost enough guys to pitch one game. you know, considering how many would be on the IL at any particular time.
  7. Does the pitcher have a history of injuries? Does his medical report (necessary for a trade) reveal current "minor" injury problems? Does he have a history of going 6-7 innings each time he takes the mound, or is he pulled after 3 or 4 innings? How much time has he spent on the IL in the past? What for? Chronic-type injuries a la Buxton, Donaldson, Kirilloff etc. or single fluke-type injuries like taking a line-drive off the shin, or the hand, etc. Not a perfect window into the future but better than snapping up someone who's already proven to be damaged goods, at the end of his career, or ineffective just because he's cheap, which seems to be the Twins preferred yardstick of late.
  8. "If they lose Correa they will have a big hole at SS, and lose games because of it; they have had two of the best fielding SS for two years and there is nothing to replace that skill set." And what did that get us? I'd rather spend that money on a top-notch starting pitcher; someone who can take the ball every five days, pitch 6-7 innings and keep the Twins in the game without spending every other month on the IL.
  9. Minnesota Twins; where former "good" pitchers go to retire, or undergo surgery and then retire, or be underutilized, or just plain ol' regress, or be freed via a trade to a contending team where their career once again blossoms. We live in the Valley of Pitching Career Death and we should fear all Evil.
  10. I find it illogical that a team supposedly so keen on data pays strict attention to pitch count even though there is absolutely no research, no data, that has found a link between the number of pitches thrown and arm injuries. In fact, what little research that has been done on the issue reached the opposite conclusion; there is no cause and effect relationship between the number of pitches thrown and arm injuries. So stop counting Rocco and go with the flow.
  11. There seems to be a tendency on this site to measure all pitchers against the mythical "Ace" standard. Do we measure all hitters against Judge? If so, we don't have any "real" hitters. Which, incidentally, seems to be more true than not, if we define an "ace" hitter who bats over .300, delivers 100 RBI's and smacks 50 homers a season. Ryan's a rookie, he's done well and unless he's a total idiot, he'll be even better next season. Will he ever make "Ace"? I don't know and I don't care as long as he wins more games than he loses, keeps the team in games, goes 6 or 7 innings (if Rocco lets him) and shows up every 5th day without spending a month on the IL.
  12. Well, at least he's not on the IL... yet. That's sort of a "win".
  13. Arraez gets the title, Duran gets ignored, Kepler gets the finger, the Twins make the playoffs on a fluke play, Buxton sits through the playoff series on "planned" rest days, Correa chokes but opts to return for another year, Miranda moves to lead-off, Arraez bats 9th, Gordon is moved to the bull pen, Rocco is awarded his Rest Home Administrator's License, half the Twins fans are livid, the other half despondent, Minnesota gets hit with its earliest blizzard ever and everyone is happy their snowmobiles start, the Vikings occasionally win a game and nobody runs out of hard liquor. Minnesota - it's not for everyone.
  14. Perceptions can be distorted but it's hard to argue with numbers. I'm willing to bet Arraez's improving numbers are directly attributable to more playing time at 1B and less time moving around the infield. Same with Gordon in left. Rocco and the Twins should keep that in mind when it comes to handling Miranda; put him at 3B and leave him there if that's his primary position next season. Gordon, the "player-who's-name-must-not-be-mentioned-at-shortstop" but who can play every other position, would obviously also benefit from a permanent home. Pick one Rocco and leave him there.
  15. Haven't gone to the State Fair in years. Used to be about rural life now it's all about the food. Bunch of animals!
  16. I find the Kirilloff injury most concerning as the proposed surgery is relatively new (as heard through the grapevine) and therefore more high risk.
  17. Love the WW II example. Maybe we should be looking at the number of pitches and innings thrown by the guys who don't need Tommy John.
  18. And on a positive note; Miranda 2 for 4 .278 average .793 OPS 2nd best hitter on the team and not rattled by the "big" moments That's the kind of player that doesn't collapse in play-off games. If we get there.
  19. I'm assuming your issues as stated are directed at TD posters in general and not me in particular as I did not mention Rocco in this post at all, only baseball managers in general. Secondly, it's my understanding TD is a board for Twins fans to share their likes and dislikes, their ideas, their opinions and frustrations regarding the Twins in particular and baseball in general. Therefore I don't think it fair to categorize differing opinions and ideas as "complaints" as if they should be automatically dismissed as niggling and not worthy of consideration. Yes, the game has changed, but a number of fans don't like the way it's changed. Perhaps that's one of the reasons behind baseball's declining fan base. Can anyone of us change the trends? Probably not. Do we have to like all the changes in order to remain fans? No, we don't. Can we still express our dislikes and still be considered baseball fans? I should hope so. If not, I suspect there is no reason for TD and like platforms to continue to exist.
