    I like the direction the squad is heading in this context, but they've still got work to do in this department. I do think it's coming though. This is where drafting athletes and finding a position for them later has it's advantages. The only thing I really worry about is that most of these positions have significant drop offs from the starter. Being capable and being adequate at a given position are two different things. But as I noted above, I do think some good options are waiting in St. Paul.

    I'm not an Austidillo guy, but I recognize that he had a pretty good spring. He's also basically the 26th man on the roster, which he is perfectly suited for. I don't want a Rooker or other prospect eating that bench time. This move is no surprise to me. Don't really understand the Garlick over Rooker, but he did finish stronger than Rooker. Rooker will still have his chance. Garlick is hardly an established player and an easy DFA candidate should he not continue his good spring.

    I tend to agree with this sentiment. I'm happy for the guy, and he's a great story. The deal is relatively low risk with plenty of potential upside, but if this is the "bedrock" of their future rotation, that doesn't instill much confidence.

    There's certainly a lot to like about the rotation. And it is the best rotation that they've had in some time. However, that's a pretty low bar. It might even be good enough to win a playoff game, which shouldn't be the monumental achievement this team has made it into. But I still don't see it being good enough to win a playoff series. And frankly, playoff success is all that I really care about.

    Apparently unpopular opinion...I'm not really "anit-Root Beer", but I'm definitely not "for Root Beer". And Carrasco just can't catch a break. I feel bad for the guy.

    He may not be my first choice there on a daily basis, but it makes a lot more sense than hitting him first.

    I'm not taking much out of 2020; good, bad or otherwise. That goes for anybody, not just Kepler. Far too quirky of a season. That said, 2019 is still the outlier. I do think he can repeat that performance, I'll have to see it before I get too excited about him turning a corner.

    I'm in no rush to lock him up. I think there are higher priorities. I like him, but see no reason to lock up a guy who doesn't have a defensive position or a guarantee of playing every day.

    Having Buxton in CF should help him adjust to LF. Target Field isn't the most difficult of left fields to roam either. If he even sniffs Yelich territory, he should be a lot of fun to watch. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what he can do.

    Ideally, it would be Buxton, but he's not at the point where I'd trust him there right now. Given that, Arraez would be my top choice with Polanco a relatively close second. Kepler should be dropped to at least the 2-hole given the rest of the roster composition.

    Even if Simmons doesn't regain his full defensive prowess, moving Polanco over to 2B helps the defense quite a bit. I think the signing is worth the risk, and frankly, was sorely needed.

    That's a bit of an underrated topic in my view. The ability to simply hop on the light rail and catch a game in each end of the Green Line sounds like a great way spend a day.

    I still don't like the way this rotation stacks up against would be playoff opponents. Is it better than years past? Probably, but still not gives me a lot of confidence against legitimate title contenders.

    I like the move to 2B quite a bit. I wish it had been done sooner, but without an obvious replacement at SS it didn't make sense. His defensive skill set suits 2B much better. That said, I do want to see how he adjusts to the other side of the diamond. I think he'll be fine and his bat will be a plus from the position.

    Agreed. It is nice to have another option though. Especially if Kiriloff gets the LF gig and struggles. Or if there are other injuries in the outfield and Cave is already starting every day.

    It seems like these things should be decided by a Whiffle Ball game, not something as logical as asking the other writers!

    I'm pretty much over the La Tortuga experiment. That said, he does seem to be the perfect roster fringe type guy that you can basically use in an emergency in a number of spots.

    His 2019 outing against those very Yankees would seem to disagree with this notion. A single outing, sure, but 13 BF in 2 IP allowing 4 ER on 6 H isn't very awe inspiring.

    "Fine" doesn't instill much optimism of getting over the playoff loss hump. Its not a bad rotation and it's much improved over the rotations of yore, but not picking up at least one more, it lacks depth and relies pretty heavily on Maeda repeating his last season and Berrios maintaining his typical early season dominance throughout the season. I'd feel much better with one more middle of the rotation arm.

    Loved Santana and hated (but understood) that he was dealt. But, he wasn't dominant for all that long. I didn't do the number crunching like IndianaTwin did above, but he summed up my opinion pretty well based on the numbers. I don't think he should or will get there either.
