  1. And a damn good defensive catcher too.
  2. Tough game to lose. Very, very winnable. And this team should win when the pitching allows only 3 earned runs over 10. The bats need to get going. It's late May now and they're struggling against teams they should clobber.
  3. Today's matchup will feature Mother Nature vs Baseball Human Types.  Stay tuned to find out who wins!

  4. Hard to argue with what Garlick is doing. He's certainly shocked me by it. I don't know if it's sustainable or not, but credit him for taking the most of his opportunities. I'm enjoying the show, however long it lasts!
  5. Nice write-up, Seth! Good to see Martin and Kirilloff mentioned here. Martin may not be hitting for much power, but getting some hits is at least a good sign in his process. Kirilloff starting to come around with the bat is also encouraging. Good to see some pop coming back too. Has there been any new reports on his wrist and how it's responding lately?
  6. The real answer to this quandary is likely that both are true. Yes, he probably could use a 3 or 4 game stretch to get his swing back. But it's also likely true that he's not healthy enough to do it. If it really is patellar tendinitis, that's not going away with a short IL stint or while playing every day. So, they've either got to shut him down for an extended IL stay or play through it and try to manage it as best they can. We know that Buxton wants nothing more than to play, so the resulting scenario is what we're currently seeing.
  7. 4 in a row and now Detroit comes to town!

Well, I first typed out that they were taking the wins train through Detroit until I realized that it was actually a home series, so I showed some restraint.  I'm hoping the humility is taken into account by the Baseball Gods.

  8. Before the season, I said that this team will go as far as the younger players will take them. So far, I think that's proven to be true, particularly in the pitching department. Still a lot of season left, but early returns are looking good. It'll be interesting to see how Chicago pushes this team the rest of the way. And while the bullpen has been better than advertised, it's been a rollercoaster at times too. It would be nice if that could get solidified.
  9. Four in a row, 6 of their last 7. Making hay during this stretch is important. They're getting it done.
  10. And have you noticed that there aren't any vendors going up and down the aisles at TF? What's with that?!? JEEEEEEEZ!!!!!!! This franchise can't do anything right!
  11. Royce Lewis... don't need him!

  12. I get wanting to keep him playing SS every day, but that doesn't mean that I have to like it!
  13. Great first post and welcome to Twins Daily!
  14. Sure, but workouts and simulated games are no substitute for real game action. It's one thing to do something in practice, but often quite another to do it in a game with the adrenaline going.
  15. Did I hear this correctly?  Bremer and Hawkins had to evacuate the broadcast booth because of a possum on the loose?

Oakland really does need a new ballpark...

  16. I did not expect to see Lewis excel to this degree coming off of two straight lost years. He continues to impress and it's fun to watch. It's great to see him taking the opportunity and running with it. Love to see him forcing the issue to keep him up.
  17. Most guys benefit from getting some time in the bigs and getting sent back down. He knows what he should work on and should learn from the experience. As hard as it was to watch Celestino last year, I think that experience paid dividends over the winter and into this season. Hopefully Miranda can do something similar whether he gets sent back down or not.
  18. Nice write-up, Nick. As frustrating as it is for all of us to watch, imagine what he's got to feel like. Hopefully they're able to figure something out short of the second surgery.

  20. Well, wuddn't that a fun series?

  21. I don't think that's necessarily true, but it probably is in most cases. I think there's a distinction in that a "real" team also wins a lot of games against average to good teams too. And I would agree that recent past has everyone skeptical. In my particular case, I just see more of the same in this team and it's approach. Which, given last season, I expected this season to be a stepping stone anyway. Edit: And keep in mind that I do think it's possible to be "real" while also playing a weak schedule. To me, it really is all about how competitive a team will be in the playoffs.
  22. I guess that I don't feel that I emphasized the schedule as much as you took me to. I was using it as a reference to winning a lot of games doesn't mean they're "real". Anything beyond that context is not what was intended. And I agree that they've done well all things considered and I'll definitely take it. It's better than the opposite, that is for sure.
  23. In my view, I guess it depends on how you define real. I can enjoy what they're doing without needing to classify whether they're real or not. I can even acknowledge that they're playing well considering the circumstances that they've dealt with. But real to me is being a legitimate contender, which I don't believe this team is. I think that's reasonable.
  24. It's fair to say that it's early to draw any conclusion. I typically want a team to prove that they're real rather than assume they are in the first place. So, in a sense, I haven't either. But what I've seen so far has not shown to me that they're real. I reserve the right to change my mind as the season progresses. The context of my schedule comments, including the reference to @ashbury's comment, were that just because they win a bunch of games doesn't mean that they're real. The last two sentences in the first paragraph of my first post actually says just that. My second paragraph goes into what they'll face in the playoffs and how utterly lost they were in that situation. I know that the lineup is beat up, I get it. But that's part of the equation. All I'm saying is that I have not seen anything that would lead me to believe that this team can do any damage in the playoffs. That's the measuring stick, not the schedule.
