  1. Shutting Buxton down is folding the season. As abyssal as the offense has been with him, it doesn't take much imagination to see what it'll be without him. If they wouldn't shut him down earlier to deal with his lingering issues, doing it now doesn't make much sense if the goal is still a playoff push. And if the goal wasn't a playoff push in the first place, why wasn't he shut down earlier?
  2. Really bad time for the bats to go silent for a series. And it ain't going to get any easier! They needed to make hay during this past week or so, and they didn't do it.
  3. Context is needed here. As others have noted, the upper tier of the prospects are now producing with the big league club. That said, hopefully those prospects on the IL can return and produce that they can develop and back fill the roster next year.
  4. I think Buxton has to be on top of this list. An effective Buxton is such a game changer for this team. Even at DH, the lineup is much better with him than without. I probably put Correa at 2 given his experience and leadership role with Arraez right behind him. Those three are catalysts for the club. I'm basically just as worried about the bats as I am the pitching going down the stretch. This team would likely be in much better position if the bats were more consistent and/or able to tack on some insurance runs late in games.
  5. I believe that is correct. Which only shows how little sense this all makes. Wouldn't it be mutually beneficial to include local broadcast rights? Blackouts are a separate issue, but I keep going back to the fact that MLB keeps making it harder to consume their product in a time when the fan base is eroding.
  6. No, I don't consider Hulu to be cheap either. Which is why paying another $20/month is even more ridiculous. Netflix can be had for half the price of BSN+. The idea of cord cutting was to save some cash. If you keep subscribing to all of these different apps, it adds up. Obviously, the apps allow for flexibility to be able to pick and choose which is great. One has to stop at some point though. There's only so much TV a person can watch. And I've found other ways to follow that don't cost me anything. Less than ideal, but considerably cheaper.
  7. I know. I know we've had this discussion before and you do make valid points. I'm still paying for it from when it was dropped from Hulu since that subscription didn't go down. I can't imagine I'm the only one in that boat. And really, I'd only be watching it for games. That's a lot of money each month for a lack of other interesting content. Plus, I have no interest in the Wolves, so if the Twins aren't on it then it's really not worth it. Obviously, there will be plenty of people that will subscribe. I just see it as another way for professional sports to make it harder and more expensive to consume their product.
  8. Nope. Not for $20/month for just the local RSNs and basically only games. Even worse without the Twins. Honestly not sure how professional sports think this is tenable. They just keep pricing people out.

    75 RBI or 75 RBIs?

    RBIs seems redundant to me.

    75 RBI or 75 RBIs?

Big hitter, the Llama. Rob Deer wasn't bad either.
  11. Given the injury history of all of the starters, plus the current usage of them, coupled with the fact that even before the injury bug really bit the rotation, they were already scrambling at times to fill a starting slot. That's not going to be fixed in one offseason. Realistically anyway. And as the last two seasons should have taught all of us, you can NEVER have too much depth. And even if everything played out perfectly and you can't get everyone enough innings, that allows you to trade from that depth to acquire something else of need. There simply isn't a thing called "too many starting pitchers".
  12. Given his interest in what happened and communication with the front office at the trade deadline makes for an interesting prospect of him returning. He acted as though he had a vested interest, not just for this year, but also for the future with his comments regarding Miranda. I'd like him to stay, if for no other reason than there isn't another answer at SS right now.
  13. I agree with @Vanimal46, I think it has to be Maeda. Especially given the injuries to the rotation. The injury may have forced their hand to go out and get Mahle, but there's no reason that wouldn't have happened anyway considering the injuries the staff has suffered. On the offensive side, I think Lewis' injury was pretty deflating. It was a short stint, but it was quite a good one. If we're talking about expected Opening Day roster guys though, I think it has to be Kirilloff. Between filling in at LF, a very good defensive 1B is missing from this team. That's not a shot at Arraez or Miranda, but neither have the glove Kirilloff does there. The silver lining of AK's injury is that it allowed Miranda to come up and stay up. That's been a big plus for a lagging lineup.
  14. What does the root beer guy have to do with any of this?
  15. I'm not sure "mirage" is the right term, but I agree with your general point. They're benefiting from a terrible division. I don't think they really intended to be in this position this season, but are taking advantage of it. I think they're offseason plan was to keep the valley shallow instead of bottoming out by keeping a relatively competitive team intact with the intent of getting the youth some major league experience in the process. I think they're still largely doing that, they just happen to be on top of the division in the process. Their goal was always to be much more competitive next season, and like you mention, the deadline acquisitions bear that out too. And they did that without dealing a top 10 prospect in the process.
  16. I actually sold my tickets to a friend, but that was before the concert was announced. I'm not a country fan either, but I may have stuck around because I do enjoy concerts. I'd be less than functional today if I did though.
  17. I'm just waiting to hear that all of these deals have a hidden PTBNL clause in them somewhere that requires that player to be plucked from the major league roster and has all-star appearance minimum requirements.
  18. I heard that the asking price was absurd. Maybe it's a small blessing!
  19. I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say that the bullpen is a strength, but I'm certainly less concerned about it than I was. They're going to have to show me more than once that they can lock down a game. And preferably against stronger competition than Detroit. That said, I like the additions that were made. It was great to watch a game that I wasn't just waiting for the impending implosion for once.
  20. How refreshing it was to watch such a clean backend of the game. I hope to see much more of that down the stretch. It's also great to see immediate returns on 3 of the new acquisitions. Hopefully we'll get to see good returns on the fourth in short order.
  21. Immediate returns on the trade deadline acquisitions!  Can't complain about that!

  22. 2 of 3 from Detroit is nice, but winning the series against Toronto would be much nicer!
