  1. At some point, this team is going to have to start clearing out the glut of corner position types. It makes sense to move members of the old core that are blocking younger players. If Kepler can bring back useful pitching in return, dealing him makes a ton of sense.
  2. To be clear, one of these scenarios has already happened in the future! That's exciting!
  3. I found those signings humorous too though. I'm sure they'd cheer Correa on if he was wearing their jersey. It all depends on whose ox is being gored.
  4. I always thought that the Dodgers pursuing Correa was comical for the exact reason they're supposedly out.
  5. Throw in dessert and you've got yourself a shortstop!
  6. I'm not as anti-Kepler as many around here, but I'm still not sure what to do with Kepler. I'm not against trading him. I'm not opposed to keeping him. The rule changes and their impact on him do make me wonder what we'll see from him at the plate, but I'm not sold on any of it. I need to see it. I'm kind of indifferent towards him, I guess. And I find myself leaning more towards moving on from him to allow the next crop of young players to come up.
  7. Right, that's why I prefaced my statement and included the "at the moment". I don't think he gets them there, but I do think he helps get them there. Hard to judge the potential signing without seeing what else they do. A glut of SS prospects is never a bad thing to have. Lewis has proven to be athletic enough to play basically anywhere. They can also be traded for something of need. I don't really see a Correa signing as being a negative. It's the potential of 10 years and a no trade that I don't like.
  8. Yup, basically. They would have at least gotten his primes years in that scenario. That's something.
  9. I'll preface this by saying I really don't like the 10 year + no trade bit either. But, this team does need a SS. There's no real in-house option that is healthy at the moment. And if Lewis does come back, he's still not an established player. There are still questions (though, he passed the eye test to me). And just because he's got a no trade, that doesn't mean that he wouldn't be willing to waive it. Obviously there is risk there though. He's entering what should be his prime years, so if you're going to spend the money, it's probably the best fit and situation in which to do it.
  10. If the right deal comes along, I think they've got to do it. They won't be a serious threat to win anything in the playoffs until they can match the frontline pitching being thrown at them. And they're kinda in no-man's land with the bats too. Dealing a productive bat stings, but I have greater hopes that the bats rebound than I do that the pitching drastically improves.
  11. I continue to be baffled by Dale Murphy not being in the HoF...

Harold Baines set a precedent as well.

I wonder if the overlap and comparison to Dave Parker, with the perception that both were only great for a few years, ends up hurting both of them.

That's an interesting point.  I hadn't thought of that.

  12. It's crowded in the sense that there are lots of options. Many of those options have a lot of potential and upside. And also much to prove. It's not so crowded when you realize that much of that list also made the IL very crowded too.
  13. I initially laughed at this until I realized you were correct...then I started crying...
  14. Both options would be great for TwinsFest, but they'd have to actually pay for those venues!
  15. Not by my definition, but he's possibly the best pitcher on this team's staff. A staff ace, if you will. That's dependent on which Joe Ryan shows up though; Pre-covid or post-covid. Getting a full season of pre-covid Ryan probably gives him that title. All that said, a healthy Mahle is a definite boost to the rotation.
  16. Yeah, I agree with that. That's part of the deal though if you're going after that top tier guys. I don't like it either, but in a sense I'm kinda at the point where I'd rather risk that for once.
  17. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  18. I agree with pretty much everything in this article, but after watching this FO shop the bargain bin on pitching for their entire tenure, I wouldn't mind a change of pace and go after a high priced FA just to see what happens!
  19. I'm much less concerned about backup at third than I am at SS. It's a deeper position in the organization while also being a less demanding position. It also has an obvious starter, unlike SS. I guess what I'm saying, is that I'm not too worried about the backup at 3B because I'm okay with the options there.
  20. You're right! Now I'm curious. If you have two guys manning first base at the same time, is that like two base runners on the same base? Is one of them out? Is that a double negative, resulting in an extra out for the offense? I'M SO CONFUSED!!!!
  21. The night is young. Plenty of time to do that too. And I'd like to see Kepler moved as well.
