  1. I was actually having this very conversation last week. One of the points the two of us in the conversation made was that the rotation is constructed better to go deeper into games. Between Bundy, Archer and the injuries, last year's staff simply wasn't good enough to go consistently deeper. They were fortunate to ride that as well as they did for as long as they did.
  2. I can't tell whether I'm crying because this is so damn funny or because it feels so painfully true and real!
  3. Agreed. Health is probably on top of that list of things needing to go right. I like them for 85 wins.
  4. Even if the offense isn't an issue, 92 still seems on the optimistic side. Possible? Certainly. Likely? I don't think so. Agreed on hammering the under on that prediction!
  5. He hasn't pitched in so long, this shouldn't have come as a shock. Besides learning how the new elbow works, the rust from such a long layoff will take some time to break free. Guys like Verlander coming back strong are rare, so this really shouldn't come as a shock.
  6. I've stocked up on Scotch. It remains to be seen whether I have supply enough for the season or a month...
  7. In fairness, it should also be pointed out that those guys getting ready for the WBC are getting game reps at the WBC too. That shouldn't be ignored either. But that's why we're saying that this should be part of the conversation.
  8. The WBC plays into this conversation, but there's still 2.5 weeks of spring training. 5-10 games can be piled up in that time without an issue. I'm not concerned about it yet. If this is still a conversation come April 1st, that's a different story. Until then, I'm not going to be overly concerned about it.
  9. My thoughts exactly. I'd be more likely to extend Gray than Maeda on age alone. I really want nothing to do with a Maeda extension unless it's extremely team friendly. I can at least entertain the idea of extending Gray, but I'm not sure that I'd do it.
  10. Gotta love the Opening Day countdown!

  11. If you're going to do it, I would do it after next season. You get a clearer picture of his health and a second season's worth of data points. I don't think there's any real rush at this point though.
  12. Is this like Valentine's Day where even though you're supposed to love and appreciate your significant other every day of the year, there's one day set aside each year where you're obligated to buy a card and such? Hallmark really does think of everything.
  13. I'd say that that contributed more to the offensive problem than the defensive one.
  14. Given the three true outcomes approach of today's hitters, I'm not totally sold on the defensive athleticism becoming the premium it once was, but I do think there will be a slight resurgence in it. Particularly in the infield. And I like that a lot. I'm just not convinced that it's going to be all that noticeable generally speaking. That said, the FO clearly thinks that it will be a bigger difference based on their acquisitions this offseason. I'll be happy to be wrong if that logic pays off and a good defensive team makes a significant difference. And I'd rather have a good defensive club than a bad one any day anyway.
  15. I don't really see him as being in any real trouble barring a complete meltdown this season without ridiculous injury numbers like they've had the last two seasons. I think he's doing what the FO is asking him to do, so unless the FO gets let go, I don't see Rocco being in any real trouble.
  16. This article should come with an Edourd Julien botched name variation Bingo card!
  17. Too bad we don't have signatures anymore. You could have advertised it in your signature! 😆
  18. Great write-up, Nick! I think it's hard to understate how great it is to have a player of Correa's caliber taking the time to help prospects like Lee. I tend to think that the best teacher is a fellow player. Coaches and managers are a good source too, but some things just seem to be absorbed more from another player. Particularly a guy like Correa.
  19. The prize is that it's now commonly known that you are the biggest know it all with the most opinions on things!
  20. What's with all of this golf talk in a game thread?
