    My comment was said partially tongue in cheek, but true all the same. But you're right, I would expect them to be more active whenever the offseason continues. That said, going after what's left does take some of the excitement away.

    Congratulations on the big anniversary! This will be fun to see what was popular over the years, as well as see how the site has evolved.

    No thanks. If he were a FA I'd definitely take a flier on him, kind of like what they did with Pineda. I'm not trading the prospects TB will demand though.

    Free agency is only exciting when your favorite team actually participates.

    Definitely not alone. The argument there is that he's strikeout prone regardless of where he is on the field, so I'm not sure why that matters. By freeing up 1B for Kirilloff, his best position according to many, you get his bat in the lineup and improve the infield defense at the same time. It only makes sense to go this route.

    I've been advocating Sano at DH for a while. I think the glut of corner types in the system is starting to rear it's head and Kirilloff plays a good 1B, so this move seems like a no-brainer to me.

    It's hard to get too excited about how things transpired this week. Even when there appears to be some movement, it almost seems backward.

    Fair enough, but I can't blame management for the injuries and various other craziness that went on. I'm sure there's some things that were within their control, but that can't all be on them. Especially in the first half. There were long stretches where at least half of the starting lineup was hurt or had Covid. Plenty of things to blame the FO for last season, but I can't hang that one on them. And having all of the corner types was/is going to bite them eventually, no doubt. I don't want to get into that though. Don't need to hijack the thread.

    I think he was called up out of lack of other options. I don't think it was their first choice. Though, I don't think his situation was as dire as Celestino where they really didn't have any other CFer's. I could be remembering wrong, however. The issue with putting Larnach at 1B instead of Kirilloff is that Kirilloff's best position is 1B (from my understanding) and that he's quite good there. And I wasn't able to see Larnach play enough to agree or disagree with you on the arm. This is the problem with drafting hit first corner types all of the time. It's been my view that the pieces are getting more difficult to fit into the puzzle.

    Yes, injuries elsewhere rushed the call up of Larnach and Celestino in particular. I'm not really concerned about any of it at this point. That was just the nature of how last season went.

    I think Kirilloff would have been fine if healthy, so I'm not sure that I'd lump him in with the rest of those. But, health is always a factor (see Buxton, Byron).

    This is my biggest hang up. I watch sports to be entertained, not analyzed to death. The analytics have made the game very boring for me. I understand the why and I'm not even necessarily against them, it's just not what I'm looking for in entertainment. Others will disagree, and that's fine. I'm not going to tell people how to enjoy things.

    I lean Nathan more because of how truly good he was as a reliever when compared to peers. That's not a slight on Johan because he's right there too. I don't really value longevity or peak performance over the other. I think each can be HoF worthy in their own context, like Kaat. There's something to be said about putting up above average to great numbers over a really long period of time. Those that put up peak numbers over an extended time, like Hank Aaron, is what puts them in a totally different class of their own.

      Make the grasshopper with ice cream ... it's a little thicker and nice and chilled; and drizzle a wee bit of chocolate on the inside of the glass before you pour the grasshopper in it

      That's way I prefer it, actually.  I'm not much of a shot guy.  Though, making a Brain Hemorrhage is pretty fun.

      I'm not at home at the moment, so I can't do any of these things right now!

    I'm not one that likes the analytics as much as many do. I'm not necessarily against them, but they don't really bring enjoyment to the game for me on the whole. That doesn't mean that they don't have a place though. I think @Sconniehas a good point. There's no one there to teach that, especially on a national basis, the way Madden did. Part of that is because of the newness of it. A reputable person that everyone knows doesn't really exist. Madden was a well known and respected commodity. I don't think that the baseball analytics world has that person. Another potential issue is that Madden would describe and explain what people could easily see. I'm not sure that can easily be done with analytics. At least to the same scale anyway. And despite my view on analytics, I do feel the game would benefit from such a person. There's clearly a thirst for such a thing.

    If the option is black hole or Polanco at SS, I chose option C and roll with Martin/Lewis/Palacios and see what happens. That said, I don't think Lewis will be ready. Martin might be pushed, but I think I'm okay with that. And Palacios is entirely a wild card. I'm kinda in the mindset that I really need a minor leaguer to just jump up and take the position. That likely requires a spring training though.

    I don't think it's a coincidence that Polanco took off with the bat after settling into 2B. Don't mess with success. I also want nothing to do with the defensive alignment of Polanco and Arraez up the middle. Infield defense may not as be as valuable these days, but it's not irrelevant.

    I think part of the issue here is that with the disaster that was 2021, even small dips in production are amplified as people try to explain why it was a disaster. I think that's happening here to a degree.

    I've always enjoyed the exclusivity of the MLB playoffs. That said, I've also always hated how they're set up. I would like to see them condense the series' to make them more like the regular season. Ideally, that would also keep the WS early enough in October to avoid really foul weather in northern cities.

    I despise the opener concept, but I don't think this team is in a position pitching-wise to ignore a potential strategy or jettison pitchers that could potentially help. They should hold on to any and all potential options for any tangible strategy to get through the season. As @Sconniehas posted several times in other threads, they don't appear to have enough pitching options to get through the season without using guys AAAA options.

    I'm always going to lean towards Kirby for the simple fact that he hooked me on baseball. I'm also not old enough to realistically remember Carew. With Kirby, it's always going to be a "what if" conversation. Perhaps not fair, but it is reality. Carew's numbers are pretty crazy. I mean, having a batting title trophy named after you is a pretty sweet gig if you can get it!

    Yup, I could see that happening. He's too important to the franchise yet. It just has to be understood by the fan base that he hasn't played in 2 years.

    This is an interesting point. They clearly have a better sense of where he's actually at than us, but I would hope that they'd put him where his ability puts him. It doesn't do them any good one way or another to overwhelm him. They need him to succeed for a variety of reasons, whether they keep him or deal him.
