  1. This game is a pretty good example of how thin this team's margin for success really is. Going scoreless in the 3rd ended up being a pretty big deal. Getting at least one run plated in that inning likely sends this game into extra innings. Plating two, as probably should have been the case, would have won it.
  2. Nice to see Canterino have a better outing this trip. Early season starts are always interesting to see how a guy bounces back. I had completely forgotten about Raya. I don't think the name even registered in my brain last week when I saw it. Time to pay more attention, I guess!
  3. I think there's something to the notion that Rocco will need time to figure out how to use his bullpen pieces, but that shouldn't be the case with a guy like Duffey, who isn't a new piece. And as @ashbury pointed out, a clean inning is a unicorn for this pen. That trend alone doesn't give me many warm fuzzies as the season wears on, and especially as injuries start to take their inevitable toll.
  4. I'm pretty confident that the offense will eventually pick up. I am worried about the defense though. Some of that can be blamed on the weather, but not all of them. Even if the pitching continues at its current pace, that sloppiness will render it moot. Especially so if the bats don't pick up.
  5. Thanks for another excellent write-up, Seth! Nice to see guys in the minors producing. Lewis continuing to play well is a great sign. Also good to see Martin starting to warm up.
  6. I'm not sure that I understand the logic of moving him to DH. He got hurt running the bases, which is what a DH would be doing. He's been hurting while fielding, he's been hurt while running the bases. If the goal is for him not to get injured, he's got to shift to umpire or managing.
  7. Nice split at Fenway. That's always going to be a tough get, so it's nice to see that they were able to get the bats going in two of the games. The pitching continues to be solid, keeping the team in games. Has to be a matter of time before the bats start doing their part as well. On to KC!
  8. I'm not sure how these are related. One does not effect the other. That said, the sample size isn't sufficient enough to glean anything significant from. So, you're correct that patience is still required.
  9. Gotta like a split at Fenway!

  10. I'm not sure how this team would come to a different conclusion than they did at the time. There's no way they keep Cron over Sano after the season Sano had in 2019. Cron certainly had a good year, but Sano's was better by a fair margin.
  11. Nice to see Martin starting to warm up a bit after a slowish start too. I'm not advocating for it now, but I wonder if there's a chance that he'd get promoted while Lewis is still in St. Paul. It'd be pretty fun to see both of those guys tearing up the bases.
  12. It's only been 9 games. I know that the offense has been an issue, but to start reshuffling the deck at this point is rather premature. Calling up a very important prospect because of it is as well. Plus, he needs the reps at SS and he's clearly not going to get those while Correa is healthy. And after not playing for 2 years, Lewis has only played in 10 games. While his performance is encouraging so far, that's hardly a large enough sample to say that he's ready.
  13. Mentioned this in the game thread, but I'll add it here too. Cold bats continue to be an issue for this team. The pitching has largely done their job.
  14. Nice to see Lewis continue to hit. It's very encouraging. Also nice to see Martin create some havoc on the bases despite not doing well with the bat. Drawing walks and stealing bases will work for me until his bat heats up.
  15. But in today's baseball, that's at least half an hour.
  16. That Duran splinker made me giggle like a 12 year old girl. Even if he hangs that pitch, you ain't hitting it!
  17. It's been 6 games. I realize that he's just following his usual pattern and that it's frustrating, but it's been 6 games. Especially with AK hurt and Sanchez apparently needing a spot in the lineup, Sano kinda needs to stay at 1B at this point.
  18. But the more things change, the more they remain the same. That's a hell of a paradox!
  19. Fun article and topic. Nice to get something baseball oriented yet not every so often. Good way to break things up on these boards. My favorite is Return of the Mack. I like the message and swagger it sends. And it's just a damn good song!
  20. As someone born in 1981, I agree with you completely here!
  21. I can't find the link, but the name of the game these days is to get people in the gate and let them spend the money on concessions and merch. The gate isn't the primary source of income anymore, the concessions and merch are. At least at the ballpark anyway. So, they can take the hit on tickets and easily make it up on $16 beers. The trick is to get you in the door.
  22. I'd add: Stubbing my toe Smashing my finger with a hammer Nails on a chalkboard Running out of Scotch I will say this though. That's a really good team and they showed it in this series. This squad has a ways to go to compete with that.
  23. I understand the "why" on Kershaw. I don't even disagree with the logic. That doesn't mean that I have to like it. Especially since I was there! History would have made sitting in the cold and wind very much worth it.
