  1. Definitely not alone. The argument there is that he's strikeout prone regardless of where he is on the field, so I'm not sure why that matters. By freeing up 1B for Kirilloff, his best position according to many, you get his bat in the lineup and improve the infield defense at the same time. It only makes sense to go this route.
  2. I've been advocating Sano at DH for a while. I think the glut of corner types in the system is starting to rear it's head and Kirilloff plays a good 1B, so this move seems like a no-brainer to me.
  3. Sure, but only 4 of those were top 6 vote years. The rest were 10+ years. It's not like he was a perennial MVP threat. If he was top 5 every year, I'd be inclined to agree with you. Not looking to debate Tony's case here.
  4. Yeah, I admit that I worded that very poorly/incorrectly... ...I was trying to say something along the lines of half of those seasons were brilliant but not long enough of a run in my view to warrant the call.
  5. It's hard to get too excited about how things transpired this week. Even when there appears to be some movement, it almost seems backward.
  6. Fair enough, but I can't blame management for the injuries and various other craziness that went on. I'm sure there's some things that were within their control, but that can't all be on them. Especially in the first half. There were long stretches where at least half of the starting lineup was hurt or had Covid. Plenty of things to blame the FO for last season, but I can't hang that one on them. And having all of the corner types was/is going to bite them eventually, no doubt. I don't want to get into that though. Don't need to hijack the thread.
  7. I think he was called up out of lack of other options. I don't think it was their first choice. Though, I don't think his situation was as dire as Celestino where they really didn't have any other CFer's. I could be remembering wrong, however. The issue with putting Larnach at 1B instead of Kirilloff is that Kirilloff's best position is 1B (from my understanding) and that he's quite good there. And I wasn't able to see Larnach play enough to agree or disagree with you on the arm. This is the problem with drafting hit first corner types all of the time. It's been my view that the pieces are getting more difficult to fit into the puzzle.
  8. Yes, injuries elsewhere rushed the call up of Larnach and Celestino in particular. I'm not really concerned about any of it at this point. That was just the nature of how last season went.
  9. I think Kirilloff would have been fine if healthy, so I'm not sure that I'd lump him in with the rest of those. But, health is always a factor (see Buxton, Byron).
  10. This is my biggest hang up. I watch sports to be entertained, not analyzed to death. The analytics have made the game very boring for me. I understand the why and I'm not even necessarily against them, it's just not what I'm looking for in entertainment. Others will disagree, and that's fine. I'm not going to tell people how to enjoy things.
  11. I'm a small Hall guy, but I tend to view a player in context of their era. Or, at least I try to as best I can. I think there's a place for players that have really long careers and amass counting stat numbers, like Jim Kaat. I'd leave a guy like Jack Morris out, believing that much of his resume is aided by his team's success in the 80s. He's absolutely a guy I'd want on my roster, but not HoF worthy in my opinion. I also believe there's a place for shorter careers that had exceptional peak performance like Kirby. In those cases, I do like them to have at least a 10 year career, so that would exclude Tony O unfortunately. A line should be drawn somewhere.
  12. There's been a lot of discussion recently about Hall of Fame voting and how many view a player. Everyone appears to have different ways to evaluate and view a player and whether or not they belong in the Hall. So, I pose the question; what do you value more in your evaluations on what a HoF player is?
  13. I lean Nathan more because of how truly good he was as a reliever when compared to peers. That's not a slight on Johan because he's right there too. I don't really value longevity or peak performance over the other. I think each can be HoF worthy in their own context, like Kaat. There's something to be said about putting up above average to great numbers over a really long period of time. Those that put up peak numbers over an extended time, like Hank Aaron, is what puts them in a totally different class of their own.
  14. I like how you put this. There are intangibles like situational awareness on the fly that has the element of instinct that can't always be taught can't be quantified. These are oftentimes things that make lesser skilled players hang around longer and/or increase their value.
  15. I thought the pool was for pre-arb players. I agree with your greater point though. The younger players should be getting more of the pie.
  16. I mean, good for those guys but...
  17. Sweatin' in NC instead of freezin' in MN!?

I was just looking forward to the forecasted 50!

  18. The lastest update from Passan.
  19. And justifiably so. They bring it upon themselves.
  20. I'm seeing more sarcasm than positivity in this thread. I guess that I see progress in the fact that they're actually sitting down and then agreed to do it again the next day. But as my last line in the OP said, it doesn't mean much.
  21. I certainly hope that holds true here!
  22. I see that you make up for you lack of drinking alcohol by putting it on/in your ice cream!? And yes, that hits the spot too sometimes!
  23. Add nuts, fruit and whipped cream? Or just straight up chocolate?
  24. My go to is hot fudge, but now and then I'll go for Hershey's chocolate syrup and caramel.
