  1. This would be a good inning for insurance runs..

  3. How many games will the Twins win this season? Please vote in the poll and feel free to post your analysis below. I am predicting 86 wins, based on Buxton having his best season yet, Sano contributing, more overall power (Cruz and Cron) and a somewhat better pitching staff than last year.
  4. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2827039-bleacher-reports-2019-mlb-season-preview-and-predictions?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_campaign=editorial&utm_medium=referral#slide7 (you may need to scroll up one page to get to the Twins slide) Lots of positive spin in the article about the new players, a Buxton breakout and the pitching staff and coach. Their conclusion: "A team like this has 95-win upside, which should be plenty good enough to win the AL Central." They also project the Indians as the most disappointing team.
  5. Great article. The new pitching coach seems good. Let's hope that we see it pay off over the season.
  6. Astudillo has become my favorite player. He seems focused yet joyful.
  7. Moderator note -- I see valid arguments on both sides of this, but not enough respect for people who disagree. Please argue with as much passion as you feel, but be respectful of people who disagree.
  8. I see that Beto appears to like the public option approach -- https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/14/politics/beto-orourke-policy-beliefs-2020-campaign/index.html
  9. I think that Democrats tend to fail at branding. Obamacare should have been consistently referred to as "The Affordable Care Act." Instead, Democrats went along with calling it "Obamacare", which I think was not a good label. No one called "Social Security" "FDR Care." I think that "Medicare for All" will likely be a loser. It reeks of government control and socialism. I would prefer a public option, so government could compete with private insurers and people could have a choice. I would call it "Medicare for Those Want It."
  10. Interesting article that suggests that the Indians are so confident that they will win the AL Central that they are tanking somewhat to minimize payroll. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-indians-are-contenders-but-could-they-get-away-with-a-little-tanking/ From the article: "Cleveland has won the Central in each of the past three years, by a comfortable margin of 12.7 games on average. Part of this is not the product of Cleveland’s talent but rather the lack thereof among the rest of the teams in the division. In fact, the rest of the division has done so little to try to close the gap that the Indians were openly shopping some of their veteran stars this winter, in part to cut costs, while still intending to win the division. Although some of the bigger rumored deals haven’t actually happened, this type of “have-your-tank-and-beat-them-too” mindset could be an innovative model for top teams trying to retool on the fly in a division laden with rebuilding clubs." I hope that this backfires for the Indians.
  11. Sounds like an intelligent guy. I hope that he works hard to improve the Twins' minor league operations.
  12. Moderator note - let's be a little less dismissive of the posts of people we disagree with here.
  13. Great interview with a great kid. I look forward to watching him progress.
  14. I will be at the office working tomorrow. Rams 30, Pats 24.
  15. Where can we buy Astudillo jerseys?

  17. I wonder how much pension a player can accrue from 2 years of service time. I would like to know more about MLB pensions. Maybe someone can start a thread. Edit -- I found what I was looking for -- https://www.marketwatch.com/story/big-papi-and-other-retired-baseball-players-can-get-a-210000-a-year-pension-2016-10-11
  18. My sense is that Cuddyer always gave 100%, sometimes under difficult circumstances. I am glad that he is still part of the organization. As for "lackadaisical", I watched the video and it seems to me that he was giving 100%.
  19. Anecdotal evidence is not the same as no evidence, but this was debated to death at the time.
  20. Right, unless history stops repeating.
  21. In the short run I am praying for a bounce. In the long run I am praying for the world.
  22. FB is still racking up huge profits, but they need to get proactive with their privacy policies. I hate taking losses because management allows gross wrongdoing. On the other hand, companies like FB and Wells Fargo can be good candidates for selling covered calls, because scandals have been tanking the stock price before the calls get taken out.

    Flying

We flew SAS from LAX to Stockholm in June and SAS business class was the best I have ever experienced. Everything was excellent -- the lounge, the seats, the food and the service. I would gladly fly SAS anywhere.
