1. I agree with that. The experience level of the team probably has some influence on that, and personalities can override the knowledge and methods side of the equation. If they haven't tried already, I am surprised. If they don't in the future, I will be shocked.
2. So that's the problem - we just have him playing out of position.
3. We're talking realistic options here, not washed-up has-beens. </sarc>
4. If he does it at every level he will get the chance to try to do it at the MLB level as well, as long as there's not some glaring weakness in his game that you aren't mentioning. If you're talking about Walker, if he can hit .250-270 with a .300 OBP and hit with the same kind of power he has been showing so far, then it will probably be enough. If it's closer to this year's performance, he will be marginal. If it's closer to last year, he will be very good. The fact that his team is always in first place makes no difference at all He's 22 and in the FSL, so he doesn't have a lot of extra time to work with.
5. I thought it was going to compare the teams to MLB teams: Germany = NY Yankees. Win a lot. Arrogant. Hate them. US = KC Royals. Lots of prospects. Always rebuilding. Never get there. We would be short a few MLB teams, so... Columbia = St. Paul Saints. Can't compete with the big boys, but always a lot of fun. That's just a quick start off the top of my head. I don't know enough about soccer to finish the list (and there might be a better match than Columbia for the Saints.)
6. I think Sconnie's avatar shows the aftermath of the explosion.
7. It's always best to have as many weapons as possible, just in case things fall into place. Arcia could put everything together and be a star. Willingham could revert to 2012 form (or something close to it.) Giving up switch-hitting could turn Hicks into an OBP king. Dozier has been this good long enough now that he might really be this good. Mauer could turn back into Mauer. Plouffe's improvements could be real. The rotation should be better than it has been. Correia could go on the 60-day with a left pinky strain. (I don't want him really hurt; I just want him to stop hurting the team.) The catchers could continue to be good (although it's unlikely Suzuki will be as good as he has been so far.) Escobar could really be at least a league-average SS. (He's 25 - he might end up even better than that.) All that's needed to contend is for a couple of slots to take realistic steps forward (1B, DH, CF, starting rotation) and the rest to continue as they have been (C, 2B, SS, 3B, bullpen) and the guys who just returned from injuries to play well (LF, RF). I'd say all of those things are at least 50-50, and some are pretty likely. I could see this team getting hot and possibly contending for a division title.
8. Is that another name for Tuscon Green?
9. When we lived in New Mexico we had rocks out front but (allegedly) grass in the back. My rule was "if it's green, it's grass." I guarantee it wasn't Bermuda or 3.6 million gallons of water.
10. I can't find the like button, but that's the best comment of the thread.
11. I'd like to finish with and easy six-love set, but I don't think our serve is going to get us there today. Why? He's barely been to the plate since then, but in the few opportunities he has had he hasn't done anything embarrassing (or at least not as embarrassing as hitting <.150, like he was doing left-handed.) The only thing that should have been embarrassing is the fact that a bunch of bloggers identified this as a logical move quite a while ago and management is still holding on to the idea that he might be able to make switch hitting work.
12. But that weekend was SO-O-O-O good... (And the crap is different from, say, Correia's, but is it really worse?)
13. Our old friend Francisco Liriano had another one of those games that drives his teams crazy. Here is his line:
[TH=class: team-name, bgcolor: #F1F1F1]Pittsburgh[/TH] [TH=class: ip, bgcolor: #F1F1F1, align: center]IP[/TH] [TH=bgcolor: #F1F1F1, align: center]H[/TH] [TH=bgcolor: #F1F1F1, align: center]R[/TH] [TH=bgcolor: #F1F1F1, align: center]ER[/TH] [TH=bgcolor: #F1F1F1, align: center]BB[/TH] [TH=bgcolor: #F1F1F1, align: center]SO[/TH] [TH=bgcolor: #F1F1F1, align: center]HR[/TH] [TH=class: era, bgcolor: #F1F1F1, align: center]ERA[/TH] Liriano, F(L, 1-6) 5.0 1 3 2 6 7 0 4.54
Pirates pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter with 10 K's, but lost 3-2 to the Padres, thanks to nine walks and an error.
14. I'm already on that first bandwagon. I can't see getting on the second unless we don't see movement on the first
15. That's chemistry, not physics
16. She also didn't want you to get killed for waving at everyone like this:
17. Can the bring back the Whalers name? They already have a mascot, although they might have to rename him (from "Pucky") http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q124/cdnuniguy/Mascots/puckythewhale.jpg They could even use the Brass Bonanza for home runs. http://www.brassbonanza.com/hcc/whalers-audio/brass-bonanza

19. Salary relief would be great, although it will probably just go toward covering the lost revenue from the empty seats I've seen on TV. Still, the remaining part of the contract could make the difference between taking advantage of an interesting opportunity should it present itself and passing on it because of the expense.
20. "... they took care of me well [and had] beautiful fans." When my little leaguers pull their heads when they swing I like to tell them to watch the ball, not the pretty girls in the stands. Maybe that was Go-Go's problem, too.
21. I wouldn't say it will dramatically increase the trade value. It might change a team from "we'll wait for you to release him" to maybe giving up a 30-yr-old AAAA CF in the Alex Presley/Darin Mastroani mold. I'd be shocked if we get more than that.
22. Twins playing the Yankees - time to break out the A-game hate.
23. Would someone care to add some description for those of us who can't see the video until tonight? It sounds like the odd kind of play that should be followed by "Manager Ron Gardenhire ejected."
24. He has enough small stuff going on right now that it could be any combination of them - the back, the shift, the rust from the extended layoff, the concussion, the cumulative effects of past injuries. The numbers are still small enough so far that it could just be a random statistical deviation (a slump). In 202 PA (177 AB) he's short 8 H+BB to match his career OBP and 19 TB to match his career SLG%. The number of times I've heard "that would have been a double without the shift" account for at least half of that. He may need to adjust some. I think he probably can and will.
25. I have no idea. The rally monkey is evil and only getting worse.
