  1. I hate the powder blue uniforms, but I still love those batting helmets. I had one of the fake ones back in the day - those cheap helmets were always breaking, but that particular one took a beating and lasted a couple of years. I think it was held together by the #29 taped on the back (or possibly by the Charlie's Angels stickers on the inside.)
  2. He has teased us before, but it has been a while. He is young enough to have finally figured something out.
  3. Hasn't happened yet, but I think it's coming soon .
  4. I hope you're right, but currently he's hitting .270 with an OPS south of .700.
  5. Monet continuing to be Monet is not a good comp for what Mauer and Bradley are doing. If Mauer painted 2009-era lily ponds forever, nobody would ever complain. Even if he kept on being the 2004-2008 and 2010-2013 guy, the overall satisfaction level would be pretty high, although we might wish he would splash in a few more of bold colors from 2009 now and then. Mauer has gone from being a top-10 all-time catcher to a below-average 1B. That's not Monet sticking with the greens a bit too long. That's Monet collecting the works of some so-so imitators and exhibiting it as his own.
  6. He's up to 10 innings now, and he actually looked OK yesterday. Granted, Gibson was throwing worm-burners all day and I could probably have handled all three of his chances (+/- ; stat from memory). But the Twins won. The earth's rotation didn't stop. I guess having a real CF is about as important as having a "proven closer." (OK, I'm kidding on the last part.)
  7. It would be a dilemma for me, too. He looked good and provided a spark, but I really don't think he's ready to stay. I think the right thing to do is Plouffe to 3B, Escobar to SS, Nunez to utility, and Polanco sent down. Who is playing SS in AA?
  8. JJ HARDY Grrr. Reaching for blood pressure meds. I know, there were a couple of forgettable alternatives in between there, too, and one unforgettable total bust from Japan. But JJ Hardy is my answer and I'm sticking to it.
  9. He looked good in yesterday's game. He turned two DP's and started a third, and he made at least one nice play in the field. He did butcher the run-down on Beltre, getting rid of the ball too soon and not allowing time for anyone to cover behind him, but that was probably just him worrying about the speed of the game and overcompensating a bit. His double was an excuse-me fluke hit, but his fly out to right was the hardest hit ball for the Twins on the game and probably would have found the gap if it wasn't held up by the wind. On Friday night he made the ninth inning interesting, and on Sunday he played a key role in the win. I'd say he had a pretty good week-end.
  10. There were a couple of swings that looked like they missed by a foot. He made the Rangers look almost as bad as Darvish made the Twins look the day before.
  11. I'm looking forward to the pitching matchup tomorrow. Hughes/Darvish sounds a lot better than Correia/Tepesch. (I have tix for the game, so it had better be better.)
  12. Wow, slow night tonight. Lately by the time I have caught up the game is over, but this time I can still make my comment on the opening post It's really right between the two, due west of Dallas, due east of Ft. Worth. That's not the disease, it's the cure.
  13. That was good. Where is the like button when I need it.
  14. Is he still exclusively hitting right-handed? His MiLB.com page does say Bats: R Throws: R, but I also remember hearing that he came to bat left-handed ate least once since he came off the DL.
  15. I'm heading to Arlington for Sat and Sun games. I guess I shouldn't be jealous of the guys going to the low-A games, but that does sound like a good time. The minor league vs. major league experiences are two different things, and I have a tough time deciding which one I prefer (especially when the big league club is struggling.) I'm glad the Rangers are down this year because we got some pretty good seats cheap on Stub Hub. I'm looking forward to the Hughes/Darvish matchup and I'm hoping the Twins can get a few of the games back that they gave away in Anaheim. (Rubber band, do your thing!)
  16. I guess that is why doctors go to med school and actually examine patients rather than just speculate based on video clips. I'm glad I was wrong and I hope he's back in the lineup soon.
  17. I don't think I have seen anyone whose value was that low to begin with sink as far and as fast has Florimon. That said, the middle of spring training was a very bad time to need to have his appendix out and it really threw his whole season off. I was for giving Escobar a shot as the starter before Florimon tanked, but I still think Florimon could regain most of his limited value if he would reinvent himself as a utility guy like John MacDonald. I think I read that he has had some reluctance to do that, but he really isn't in a position to negotiate if he wants to continue to be paid for playing baseball. (I can't remember if it was reluctance or difficulty handling the other positions that caused the problems.)
  18. Dr Gil (definitely not a doctor) guesses torn meniscus, young enough for a repair, out 6-8 weeks (longer than the 4-6 for a chop & go, but better in the long run). It looked like he jammed it a bit on first base and it looked like something was catching in there. When he was being eval'd by the trainer, he could put weight on it (probably not ACL), and could run a bit, but then something caused him to pull up again. Hopefully I'm wrong and he just have to stay off it for a couple of days, but it didn't look very good.
  19. He (hopefully) needs a lot more time. And a cryonic freezer for his head.
  20. I think the injury hypothesis requires fewer assumptions and thus fits the Occam's razor rule better. I don't know a lot of things that can turn a .320 hitter into a .260 hitter, but a concussion can do it. Guys don't suddenly forget how to hit.
  21. That's my LEAST favorite Ortiz fact, but to each his own. At least you're not a Yankees fan.
