  1. It could have been worse. My first thought was Denny Hocking, but then I realized that it probably was about 20 years ago that he was a semi-prospect. I guess I didn't read too carefully, either. Read the first stat line and then saw the second one was vaguely similar at the start, so I missed the bit about 18 HR. (Casilla did hit 7 HR at age 23 in the majors - that was the major power output for his career so far.)
  2. Without looking, I'll guess Casilla, with a back-up guess of Tolbert.
  3. Or Pierzynski
  4. The Met Metrodome (in '82 and '09, no trips in between) Fenway (25-30 times, none since 86) Yankee Stadium (old) (about 15-20 times, last in 2000) Coors Camden Yards Shea ('74) Arlington Stadium Ballpark at Arlington Riverfront Busch Minors: El Paso San Antonio Norwich, CT OKC
  5. I agree. With two catchers, your pitchers might get 10 AB's per season. Running Butera out there every 4 days is like giving your pitchers 160 AB per season. (Last year - 254 PA, .167 BA, .449 OPS - the pitcher would have to work hard to be worse than that.)
  6. It's hard to believe - it's even harder to believe it has been over 20 years since "we'll see you tomorrow night."
  7. I think Span had Lasik surgery during the offseason the year before he made the jump, which might explain some of his improvement.
  8. I thought I had been to a fair number of stadiums, but I just went through the list and only 4 of the 11 I have been to are still in use. I'd rank those Coors, Ballpark at Arlington, Camden Yards, and then Fenway. I even liked old yankee Stadium better than Fenway, although I haven't seen it since they added the seats on top of the Green Monster. Of the replaced stadiums, Yankee Stadium the only one on the list that was any kind of loss. Good ridddance to the Met, the Dome, Shea and Arlington. Busch and Riverfront weren't horrible, but they won't be missed either thanks to major upgrades.
  9. Seth is normally pretty reasonable (plus he's one of the site owners), so I'll forgive the transgression and vote No. If it was anyone else... (looking at you, FishingMN)
  10. Angels in the Outfield
  11. If you drive tbe train to Arlington or maybe KC... Sorry, sometimes it's hard being a long-distance fan. On the plus side, it was over 70 here today and I was outside shooting hoops in shorts.
  12. I didn't even know they had a 2 and 3, and I never could even make it through the original.
  13. Unfortunately, Gardy wasn't going anywhere based on one bad season. Slowey seemed to have annoyed more than just Gardy, although it might have been just Gardy and Souhan. The case could be made that he had burned bridges and had to go, and nobody was going to give up much to get him. Young's salary was starting to become significant and he doesn't do enough well to justify it. I would have preferred to see him in RF to see if his arm could offset some of his defensive shortcomings (like it did for Cuddyer), but he didn't hit enough to justify a spot as a DH or corner OF.
  14. The Ramos and Hardy trades were indefensible on their own. Trading Young and Slowey for nothing were defensible, but it would have been nice to get slightly more than that. (I'm not sure we did.)
