  1. If he's still playing, the Mets and Yanks are welcome to him
  2. That was why 2010 was so disastrous. The Twins spent and then crashed and burned, and there was no flexibility to do anything about it until this year. Now the hole is so deep it will take a couple of years to patch it up, if the process works, which is not guaranteed.
  3. I can at least understand the Seahawks - it was a retaliation for the Steve Hutchinson signing.
  4. You almost made my head explode. My first reading was "Once Buxton is ready you can trade him [buxton] away. After reading it a few more times, I figured out you meant to trade De Aza away, so I stopped hyperventilating. *Just kidding. He didn't really say that.
  5. I know there used to be some variations betweeen types of radar guns. Is that still an issue? How did the other pitchers compare to their norms? Maybe he just had a bad day. It doesn't take much of a change in mechanics or health to lose 2 mph.
  6. I know how to spell Yastrzemski without looking it up, but I know I have butchered Parmelee's last name several times. I agree with you completely. On a side note, I have a son named Stephen, and his teachers always spell his name with a "v". One time he told me "I'm not mad at them. I'm mad at you. They spell it right." Someone need's to give Parmelee's parents a call and see if they can do something about that last name. (Of course, after the trauma of this thread, we all know how to spell it now.)
  7. It takes about 30 seconds. To proofread and catch all my mistakes takes forever+30 seconds.
  8. It's apparently the worst of the 3 IF positions he plays. SS is his best. I'd like to see him get a shot to beat out Florimon because he has shown some signs of being able to hit in the minors.
  9. My network is blocking the photo, but I knew right away who you were talking about. (The photo probably wouldn't have helped unless it showed the name - I've got no idea what he looked like.) I used to have the old Cadaco All Star Baseball game with the disks and and spinners. The number 10 was a K, and his player card had BY FAR the biggest number 10's of any player card. If I knew at the time that he used to play for the Twins I probably would played him anyway, but I was probably 8 at the time (if that) and had no idea. The biggest problem with the game was that pitchers' skill was not a factor, except for their ability to hit. It was still fun, and it was better than the game we came up with using baseball cards and dice - 12=Hr, 11=E, 10=2B, 9=FO, 8=1B, 7=GO, 6=FO, 5=Go, 4=K, 3=BB, 2=3B. I'm sure you can see some mathematecal problems with that game, along with the fact that every player has the same skill level and pitching was no factor, but it was fun, too. It was also portable - you just needed a pair of dice, a notebook to use as a scorecard, and a flat area to roll the dice (a small game lid worked great.). You could play darn near a whole season on a drive from CT to MN and back (speaking from experience).
  10. I'm not sure the Carew trade deserves to be there. He forced the trade and there was no way Griffith was going to re-sign him. Landreaux was pretty good, then they flipped him for Mickey Hatcher, so the return was better than the Johan trade (unless Guerra shocks the heck out of us.)
  11. How long ago was it that Aaron was writing his "Free Johan" articles?
  12. Took the survey. The weird, useless data is mine. (Yes, I usually do go out to eat in Arlington, TX, before I go to Twins games. )
  13. My first thought was "You've got to be kidding. How pathetic do you have to be to watch that?" Then I clicked. How pathetic do you have to be to be disappointed you can't watch that?
  14. Misery, Missouri ... they don't call it the "Why Me" state for nothing.
  15. 1. "IF" 2. His defense was not nearly as good as advertised. 3. Arcia
  16. But what if it really was "bilateral leg weakness". Would the amateurs have ever come up with that?
  17. I guess I have to vote for Puckett's catch, since Punto getting caught rounding third too far wasn't on the list.
  18. 1. That's very difficult to do - it's a much more difficult target than developing a platoon that can produce at the same level. 2. That team would become too expensive to keep very quickly, so it's not a sustainable strategy unless you're the Yankees. Actually, even the Yankees have trouble doing this because of pressure to keep (and overpay) their players beyond their productive years.
  19. I thought it was some new form of pig Latin, but I was wrong too.
  20. I think he might be blocked by Florimon and we might want to look a bit longer to see if we'd rather have him starting.
  21. I'll second the motion.
  22. I enjoyed the story and I agree with most of the positive comments, but I still got a pretty good laugh out of that post. I just hope Pelfrey doesn't give Meyer the 20 page checklist he runs though before every pitch.
  23. Punto as a utility guy was pretty good. Punto at starting SS and $4M/yr was not. Punto as Gardy's security blanket was annoying. It was because of that last item that most who wanted him to go felt that way. If the Twins had re-signed him for what StL paid (and made him a utility guy), most would have been fine with that. If he had been made the interim starter after Nishi crashed and burned, that would have been fine, too. We might have been OK if they stuck Jim &*^%! Hoey at SS, too, just to try and get some value out of that trade, since they don't seem to know the difference between a SS and a horses rear end anyway. Sorry for the rant, but if you use the Punto hate out of context, some of us will feel obligated to remind everyone of the context.
