  1. His # of triples each year has been inconsistent The K rate is beyond a concern at this point. But he's got time to figure it out.
  2. I think it they outright release Nolasco there's still only a 50-50 chance somebody picks him up. What has he done in 2.5 years that makes any team want him? This feels like Worley except that he's owed way more money and is older.
  3. Interesting just that so few regulars have even played enough to qualify.
  4. So the problem is that players are too good? Um, okay.
  5. Not a chance it would pass the player's union.
  6. I think you're overthinking it too, but this year is beyond odd. I get letting Arcia or John Hicks go (for different reasons). But the circumstances and timing of so many decisions have been bizarre. Darin Mastrionni, who was so fun to watch on the bases 4 years ago, shouldn't have been in AAA not to mention MLB. Just three of many examples that just don't make sense. But the product on the field doesn't make sense either for the first 3 months, which tends to cause these boulders to tumble.
  7. I'm torn on what to do with some of these controlled players like Nunez and Kinzler. Trades for low level semi-prospects tend to fizzle. Maybe they can get an Alexii Casilla while opening an audition slot for someone else. Is that worth the loss of a little consistency? Hard to say when all the team has going for it today is a 2 or 3 consistent players. Good points on the BP stat anomalies. Though the BP was supposed to be Fien to May to Jepsen to Perkins and, well, May is still on the team and even he missed a good chunk of time. These fluke stats (like the improved K/BB ratio) are what make baseball fun.
  8. Also, you always overpay for a C, SS, or CF because these positions featuring a fully rounded (read: player who can hit) are rare. I think you'd have to give up a Kepler caliber prospect or an all-star (not Nunez) for Profar. Also not sure it makes sense. Middle infield seems somewhat set in MN for the first time this century.
  9. I agree, except that he seems to play his worst when in a part-time role. He's so streaky he needs to play everyday to hit his stride. And when he's off, he's soooo bad that he doesn't deserve any playing time. It's a vicious cycle. If his adjustments ever pay off to where he can at least make contact during a slump it would be a different story.
  10. Reminds me a lot of Todd Helton's contract in COL.
  11. Who needs statistics when we can suggest that his wife or children are to blame or that he's faking injuries? I think his decline is because he doesn't drink enough nerve tonic, obviously.
  12. He's a utility guy on a last place team. Not the problem, not part of the solution either. I don't think he should start more than twice per week, though.
  13. Nearly everything said at any press conference or press statement, ever, is lip service. News doesn't happen at events scheduled by PR, it gets spun at them after it already happened.
  14. Tough call on a couple trades. Nunez and Kintzler are cheap and controllable, and E Santana could be useful to the team still. Plouffe and Suzuki have no future in MN. Is Abad controlled after this year?
  15. Except it would never happen because, NFL style, 75% of them would sit it out for surgery or to see their kids or whatever.
  16. The season finally gets interesting and we have to take a 4 day break.
  17. The Hall of Fame is for lifetime achievement. The All Star game is for the single season.
  18. Agree with everyone above. Based on your stats included, I definitely think Mays was a solid AS in 2001, for example.
  19. Nathan/Liriano/Bonser for AJ Kielty for Stewart I'd even argue that Jepsen for Hu is of comparable value based on 2015. Knoblauch for Milton/etc. Yes, most of these are older. That doesn't mean they didn't happen.
  20. What is all-star supposed to mean? It's the 2016 all-star game so I'd argue that hitting .320 for the relevant (to the AS game) half of the 2016 season is a pretty solid achievement. Not disagreeing that the team is horrid, just wondering about the terminology. Are you suggesting he's not having a good year? I think compared to, say, Ron Coomer, Nunez is pretty deserving. If the argument is about the token aspect of 1 per team, that's a different conversation entirely.
  21. A lot I could say here but I'll try and keep it brief. 1) Nowhere near Ryan's best trade. 2) I think he's a good pick for the AS game now that they're focusing on building actual rosters where playing multiple positions holds extra value instead of just sliding someone out of position. 3) Props to Nunez for being able to not only play daily, but play a new position daily. Many AS caliber players struggle for entire seasons after a position change. It takes a certain mindset to do it daily.
  22. I'd vote for Buxton, Park, or cutting ties with Jepsen at this point.
  23. They sent Rosario down just before a promotion.
  24. That makes it even tougher. I'm starting to think his performance is real, given his bat in 2015 being solid as well. But on this team, trade him if it's a real offer, keep him if it's pittance. He's got hustle, skip.
