    Yeah ... my mom did something like that once ... I asked for a car, I got a toy car. Not that I expected a real car, but ... And then one year my mom put rocks, a raw potato and willow sticks in our stockings. Yeah, we were all older. Another year she wrapped up this present ... it was pretty large ... and said it was for all four of us kids to share. What could it be??? It was a framed, oversized campaign poster of her from years earlier. Yup ... we were supposed to each have 3 months of mom hanging around our homes/apartments.

    Also ... ensembles for music majors IS educational and necessary and vital to that education. It is part of the music educational pursuit whether you become a teacher, administrator, performer, etc ... it is VITAL to the core of that education, and is often credited, so it is quite different from football in that regard. But I suppose musical ensembles could be equated to some types of music majors as playing football would be to some kind of a sports major? Sorry ... I'm taking this way off track now ... it's just not an easy or truly equivocal comparison.

    They didn't cut the band, they suspended it (and they suspended it before). And it was the marching band not the concert band ... the former being as much a social extra-curricular activity (such as a club) as well as a musical endeavor, and only exists along side football or other sporting events. While it's music, I wouldn't put it in the same category whatsoever as the orchestra or concert band. (And yes, this is way off topic ... but I think marching bands can be compared to football teams ... but other artistic ensembles I wouldn't say so, but we don't want to get into that.)

    Right. And if the Dodgers deal for Dozier, I don't think they'll have enough to deal for Sale and be left with anything. They aren't actively seeking to move him, but they are listening.

    Sale is still under control for what, two, three more years? And he's not that expensive considering the pitcher he is. If a trade could be worked out, I don't think the financial considerations would be the issue. If I were the White Sox I'd be wanting a return at least twice what we'd get for Dozier.

    I don't think that's what he was saying at all. I think he's saying that that was the piece that came up first and it was a quick and easy thing to get done and out of the way to then focus on things of greater need. It wasn't a priority in that it was the most important need, but it was the priority because that's just what came up first.

    I don't think it was a matter of the Castro signing being a higher priority than a Dozier trade. I think that a free agent signing is just going to happen more quickly than a trade. If they had focused on a trade first, Castro likely would have signed elsewhere. The priority wasn't in that was what was most needed, but in the timing of how things unraveled and needing to get that done and out of the way to be able to focus on things that are more important.

    I think we need to get past the semantics debate on what is meant by 'strong.' It seems to me that article meant strong as not sitting on their hands waiting but getting started by doing what needs to get done, and doing exactly what Levi just said in his post above. I don't think 'strong' in the context of this article means we're heading for a ticker tape parade nor means we've done more or better than anyone else in the league. Let's try framing the discussion on if you like or don't like the moves made so far and what you hope to see coming yet instead of debating the qualifier 'strong.'

    Exactly, I think there is room for both sides of this discussion. What I find interesting is that they aren't being brought in for just one specific thing, as I think most former players are, and that they will also be doing a lot of learning. I see them more as a liaison between on-field and FO, and maybe more specifically between players and FO. I can see that being a good thing for defining needs and direction to have both sides ... in-field and off-field working together to find the best course. That said, I understand the voices saying 'outside opinions.' I've also been a strong proponent of this in the past and it's difficult to not also be skeptical as well as interested. So ... time will tell. I want to see what Falvey and Levine are building first before I come to any real bias for or against,

    Get off the straw man crap (deleted posts) and stick to the topic. I understand the need to disagree and defend, but sometimes it's best to just ignore and let it go rather than take it down a path that leads to defensive bickering.

    Okay, come on, guys, really. Quit being so dismissive of and disrespectful to one another. It gets so old. And I won't even get into how jacked this thread got, starting with post #2.
