  1. If both sides end up scuttling the 2020 season and get portrayed as greedy pigs unable to split a $3 billion pie then they will lose many fans.
  2. I feel like there was an unpublicized directive in the Twins corporate office to slowly merge the Senators and Twins histories. It seems up until a few years ago they were clearly separate histories and record books, at least from the Twins' perspective. I heard that the new Senators franchise honors legendary Senators/Twins, which is odd to me because they used to be the Expos.
  3. I know it doesn't get any better as this series makes its way to 2019, however, it is getting really old to have a great regular season followed by a thud in the playoffs.
  4. Yes. The lousy, cheating Astros title from a few years ago is still considered legitimate so 2020 should have no issues in comparison. World War II had players lost to war service including big names such as Ted Williams, Stan Musial, and Joe DiMaggio and those years are all considered valid.
  5. Ditto, this has been a great series so far. I am in the camp that Johan losing out on this Cy Young derailed any chance of a serious HOF candidacy. I still can't recall Mauer stealing bases, although I know he was a great all around athlete as I watched him play high school football.
  6. Wasn't the celebration in the clip subdued because it was the Twins only clinching a tie for the division instead of outright winning the division?
  7. Thanks for the memories. Taking a detailed dive like this really highlights how much fun and how special it is to follow a team long term. Johnny Damon on the Royals! I haven't thought of that game in 20 years, it's weird to spark that memory of such an obscure game.
  8. Fear is the opposite of faith and there are no guarantees in life (especially in this COVID-19 new normal). If baseball does things the right way and uses common sense and logic in regard to safety then things should (hopefully) be OK. To call the season off quibbling over dollars would be a travesty and tbe lost fans will dwarf the 1994 numbers.
  9. I will echo what others have said so far and state that I expect Mitch to be solid behind the plate for the next 3-5 years. I love the swing and disciplined plate approach and it should serve Mitch well as he ages.
  10. A.J was a legit pick. The guy acted like a horse's patooty. Don't hate Jeter because he roasted our Twinkies for all those years. He was the epitome of class. Even though the Twins beat the Cardinals in the 1987 World Series, Ozzie Smith always annoyed me to aggravation.
  11. Even though he had one rough start against the Twins last season, I fell like Lucas Giolito will be in this list in 10 years.
  12. Either go universal DH or no DH at all. I am totally against expanded playoffs and neutral site World Series in principle. However, I will take what I can get this season. Anything to make MLB more like the NFL is a loss for MLB so I would hope the neutral site World Series would be a one-time deal.
  13. July 1 with no fans in the stands seems the most optimistic and aggressive prediction for the start of the MLB season.
  14. Minnesota Vikings 1999 NFC Championship game and Gary Bleeping Anderson and his ONLY miss of the season. Not much for the Twins since they have either won the World Series as underdogs, lost to superior teams in the playoffs (Yankees) or been mediocre. The Vikings are the Minnesota team that has broken hearts.
  15. Each MLB team could make its own policy. The Twins and their 15% incentive were on the more generous side from what I saw. The Twins have been holding people's money and drawing interest for months. The 15% is for future tickets in 2020 or 2021 not cash. It seems a very reasonable balance, especially considering they are still saying May and June games are postponed instead of cancelled.
  16. Tough division for our Twins. Who cares, right? I will keep praying for baseball, not sweat the details, and hope for the best.
  17. Buxton is the best defender I have ever seen. Now, his success is obviously in spurts here and there so it depends on your criteria if he should win something like this.
  18. Interesting, I didn't know Carew wrote a book. I remember reading Lau and Ted Williams' books, both back in the 1980s. I also had a videotape of Lau's.
  19. The Strib has a clear, concise synopsis https://m.startribune.com/twins-offer-refunds-for-unplayed-april-games/570049612/ "For now, the policy applies to April games only..." "Here’s a quick summary of the various ticket policies, which the Twins say will be extended to May, June and beyond as necessary: • Full-season tickets: Accounts will be credited automatically for canceled games, with the additional 15 percent added on for use on future games or renewals, whether in 2020 or 2021. If refunds are preferred, they can be obtained by calling 612-370-4575 or e-mailing sweetspot@twinsbaseball.com. Asking for refunds won’t affect ticket holders’ claim on specific seat locations once games resume. If ticket holders had not paid for the entire season yet, no further charges will be billed until a new schedule is announced, and the 15 percent incentive will be credited on payments already made. • Partial season tickets (called Flex Plan): Vouchers already redeemed for April games will be credited, with the 15 percent incentive, toward future games, or refunds can be obtained at the season-ticket phone number or e-mail address. • Twins Pass holders, who pay for entry into Target Field without reserved seats on a monthly basis, can seek a refund of their initial April payment, or apply it to the first month of games if the season resumes. Refunds are available by e-mailing twinspass@twinsbaseball.com. • Single-game tickets: For tickets purchased electronically, accounts will automatically receive credit for use on future games (though without the 15 percent incentive). But if fans prefer a refund for single games, they can receive one at twinsbaseball.com/refund. Refunds will be processed as quickly as possible, the team said, and will show up on statements within 7-14 business days. • Printed tickets that were purchased with cash or check at the Target Field box office should be mailed to Target Field in order to receive a refund. The Twins cannot refund tickets purchased from secondary sources; buyers should seek refunds from those sellers."
  20. Slim pickins at 3B and SS. What a strange decade, the franchise really saw all ends of the spectrum.
  21. I am afraid that piling COVID-19 on top of the existing MiLB contraction plan is not good news to franchises such as Elizabethton. I can see new independent leagues popping up if the economy kick starts and society can get back to large gatherings such as baseball games. That might not be until 2022 at the earliest that a new league could get started. There are lots of obstacles that didn't exist even 60 days ago.
  22. Why didn't the Vikings draft an offensive lineman?
