  1. I don't buy this argument in the case of a guy like Minor. I refuse to believe it would have required some package of Kirloff and Graterol to get him. Stroman was worth more than Minor. So the asking price in all likelihood was a similar package to that or less. We don't know which other teams were interested. Minor is not some ace. But he would have helped this staff a lot. The bottom line is that this rotation and staff needed help. We have a deep farm system. And we clung to all of our top 20 prospects like grim death and did the absolute minimum to help it.
  2. I was much more the on the Keuchel bandwagon than the Kimbrel bandwagon for this reason. But the bottom line is that they could have added a starter for nothing but $ or they could have used their deep farm system to trade for one. They did neither and are paying the price. We're supposed to wait for next year, when the rotation has one guy set.
  3. Not directly. But it would make it easier to pull the trigger on putting Berios on the IL and giving him 10 days off. Nothing excuses the front office refusing to part with any of their top 20 prospects to help this pitching staff.
  4. An unacceptable loss. Put Berrios on the IL and release Harper. Get Littell and Smeltzer up. And get Arreaz into the lead-off spot and Kepler to 4th immediately. Thsi should be a no-brainer. Ultimately the front office's trade deadline cowardice is their undoing. But there's always 2024.
  5. To be fair, my 17 year old AC can rarely achieve it during the middle of the day, but it tries.
  6. They need to get Kepler out of the lead-off spot. The offense will always look great when the Bomba show is on, but when it's not you still need to manufacture runs. Put Arreaz in the lead-off spot and drop Kepler to 4th.
  7. The correct answer is 66 year round.
  8. Cruz was amazing. But I have to say, why was he still in for that second at bat? He reached 3rd with one out in the 8th. He should have been pinch run for then, and he certainly didn't need to bat up 8. He's 39 and coming off an injury Rocco. And this is MN sports.
  9. The Twins again blew a replay call. The play at home in the 6th, the catcher blocked the plate before he had the ball. I've never actually seen a call overturned, but they had to at least try. It's too big of a play in the game not to. I don't get it. Also, Arreaz should lead off going forward. Period. Getting a pitcher to 20 + pitches in the 1st is huge.
  10. You can put Berrios on the IL and roll with 4 starters. He would be eligible to return 8/27. Gibson, Pineda, Odo against CWS. Perez, Gibson, Pineda against Detroit. Odo, Perez, Gibson against CWS. You woudn't need a 5th starter until 8/31.
  11. The Berrios that showed up on Saturday and 3 starts ago against Atlanta is not better than Smeltzer or Thorpe. That said, yes the front office failed bigly in not getting Minor or Ray.
  12. Despite the low cable/satellite penetration, the Twins have always done well in TV ratings when they're good. That said, it wasn't smart of them to remove having an over-the-air partner. The old Sunday games on channel 29 did nearly Vikings-like #'s when the Twins were good. That was mostly Fox's decision though, since they owned both Channel 9/29 and FSN. Perhaps with the sale of FSN to Sinclair they will bring back over the air games. Tama is just a bad baseball market. More Yankees fans there than Rays fans. The only Florida pro team that has a significant long-term following is the Dolphins.
  13. Plus it was the 7th inning. If there is any doubt, you have to challenge it.
  14. Has Rocco explained why they didn't review Cron's missed double in the 7th inning? It was clearly fair and cost us two runs. The Twins reluctance to challenge plays this year is so odd.
  15. Cave's bone-headed OF play has been inexplicable the past month.
  16. I'd take him for Cave for sure.
  17. Since Rogers has been awful in back-to-backs, why not use him for the 2 inning save and have Romo pitch the 9th tomorrow if needed?
  18. Once Buxton's back, it's easy just to have Gonzalez play 1B. Until then, more playing time for Adrianza at 3B with Sano at 1B. Garver playing there makes sense too but i don't see them doing it.
  19. I know pitching and defense cost us this game, but I really wish they would put Arreaz in the lead-off spot. Kepler has what 1 lead off HR this year? And Polanco is slumping hardcore.
  20. Anyone know when the game will be available for replay? I see previous games on their channel, so they obviously put it up eventually.
  21. This. We've heard a lot how the new regime uses the bullpen based on the situation not the inning. Saving Dyson/Romo for the 8th/9th is what Gardy would do. Can't use the closer yet, it's not their inning!
  22. I would certainly not pick up the option on Perez. I would offer Gibson a 3/$30-ish type extension. I think Odorizzi will cost more and is not that much better. If they want to contend next year, they will have to pony up for a legit #1/#2 starter in FA.
  23. Perhaps, but that assumes an average player was up next and not Jonathon "Clutch" Schoop. There is an 80% chance he would have struck out or popped up.
  24. I figure the Twins had about a 50/50 chance of winning the game in the 9th if they hold the runner (20% chance Schoop comes through, 24% chance Kepler does if he fails, and 6% wild pitch/other). So if it would have been a bang/bang play fine. But seeing where he was when the ball hit the cutoff, it's inexcusable.
