  1. I'm of the belief that if they really wanted Berrios to start the season in Minnesota, they would put together a schedule like this. The "not stretched out enough" explanation for sending down Berrios does make sense, but it's also convenient. And frankly, Sanitago has to do mostly the same schedule you're talking about to get stretched out himself.
  2. This scout lost me at Buxton needs to bunt. #NeverBunt
  3. I don't know, it seemed to work briefly for Hughes. I think more importantly, they need to let Santiago pitch the way he always has in the past. When they tried making him pitch with more control last season, he was lit up more than a Christmas tree.
  4. I'm buying into Santiago being an effective, dare I say, above average starter for this team. If they don't tweak his mechanics too much, and let him pitch "effectively wild" I think he can outperform his FIP once again.
  5. I wish we could bookmark this post, and then take bets on what date Bert says this exact quote.
  6. Agree. Those 5 names will make the opening day bullpen. I'm rooting for Chargois to make it as well! My confidence level in Phil Hughes is very low. They should have another starter be the swing man to mop up multiple innings, and jump into the rotation at a moment's notice. Flip a coin between Mejia and Berrios to see who goes first.
  7. 2 innings - 9 hits, 6 ER, 2 moon shots today. http://m.c.lnkd.licdn.com/mpr/mpr/p/8/005/09a/3b8/39d88ce.jpg
  8. Yeah I could see that too. They're going to have a couple of down years anyway. Might as well see if they can make one more run with this core if they get off to a hot start.
  9. Their starting pitching is a detriment to the team, and I don't think their bullpen can make up for average starting pitching anymore. It will be interesting to see who they sell off in July. When you add up the sum of all their parts, it sounds like a good lineup... But on their own, is Hosmer that good? Moustakas? Gordon?
  10. Agreed. Tonkin is not someone to worry about potentially losing. If you walked into a bar mid-conversation and overheard "He's a decent, not great reliever who throws hard," about 10 names on the Twins could come to mind. At some point, they just need to trim the fat from this huge group of middle relievers.
  11. Were we all this nervous when Torii was diving all over the place on the concrete carpet surface at the Metrodome? Buxton will be fine. Continue making highlight reel catches, Byron!
  12. I also would not mind Mejia over Berrios for the 5th starter. Really anyone over Vogelsong. Though I did get a good chuckle out of this line describing Vogelsong: "many are impressed with his veteran-ness" Picturing in my head Berrios and Mejia watching in AWE, maybe even recording it on Instagram that a 39 year old can throw a ball 88 MPH.
  13. I thought we fixed the glitch in regards to D Santana. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qOJessrDCGI/TUcATUV0UUI/AAAAAAAAAAk/k7duqm73Ic0/s1600/MiltonOfficeSpace_thumb.jpg
  14. Cue to Seth Stoh's article where he says Belisle is the bridge to Kintzler in 3, 2, 1......
  15. As do I. Prospect's values are almost always higher than where they actually end up after a year or 2 in the league (if they're fortunate enough to make the show)... I'm of the belief that a prospect can easily peak in value before they get to the majors. For example, I think the White Sox traded for peak value of Giolito. Jay's peak was probably the beginning of 2016 when he (I think?) made a top 100 prospect list and was still thought of as a starter. I truly do hope that is the route the new regime goes with. Not all of Gonsalves, Stewart, Romero, Mejia, Jorge, etc. is going to work out. It sure would be nice to find out their value for immediate help.
  16. A 2.82 ERA in his final 24 appearances last year is just okay? I also pay zero attention to spring training stats. As long as he's still throwing heat, then let's put him in there. The hurry is so we can see some semblance of what the bullpen could be like in the future, since this will be another below .500 season. Or we could cater to all of the veterans and have Breslow/Belisle in the 8th inning, Kintzler in the 9th and pretend 2018 doesn't exist.
  17. Concur with mikelink. What better time than now to get him ready for the role? I'd like for him to be in the 8th inning set up role to start the season, then transition to closer full-time by July.
  18. I think it's short sighted to claim "fast tracking" as a primary reason for moving him to the bullpen. They already have 20 options to sort through, and sooo many good veterans already that not even Chargois will make the roster. In regards to the Perkins update, wow. Stick a fork in him.
  19. David Price was still very good last year. Not sure why they included him on the disappointing list.
  20. Also, for my Fargo people! Season 2 is available to stream on Hulu... Last season is just as great as I remember.
  21. 2 episodes in so far. Didn't think an X Men themed type of show would be for me but it's awesome!
  22. Sale was also a college starter and was expected to be a starter. Didn't remember this until I just looked it up. They promoted him to the majors 2 months after drafting him... That's insane.
  23. Yeah but those guys you're thinking of were, you know, starters before they were called up and sent to the pen. Thinking that Jay, who hasn't pitched more than 83 innings in a season would transition back to a starter is IMO, preposterous.
