    I'm sure the author's intention wasn't to enter the preposterous statement tournament... But when you compare a current player to a hall of famer, arguably the best player in franchise history, that's where it's going.

    It's annoying that this isn't mentioned in the recap. Shouldn't be that hard to find but evidently it's a mystery when I try to find anyone reporting it. Doesn't make sense when velocity readings were readily available for Pineda and others on rehab assignments.

    Givens and Iglesias have 2.5 years of control. Kela has 1.5 years. Wouldn't mind any of the names you mentioned. The Twins would have to give up quality to acquire them.

    Sano's presence isn't going to derail this fast moving locomotive. He could help this offense immensely. If not, the train will keep chugging along without him.

    It's definitely unfortunate and no, I couldn't imagine the stress not knowing where you're going to work. On top of that, they don't know if they're getting an MLB paycheck or a reduced minor league wage. Life is tough on the bubble.

    Thanks for taking the time to respond, Jack! I've been curious for a while how it works with the subset of players who seem to be caught in DFA purgatory because they're out of options and on the bubble talent wise. Your response helps explain it!

    Jack, I'm curious how teams work with players that are in DFA purgatory? For example, Oliver Drake last year was DFA'd and claimed 6-7 different times over the season. It's got to be exhausting for him to not know if he should unpack his suitcase. Another example I think of is the game teams play over the winter by claiming players and DFA them right away to stash them on their AAA team. Kennys Vargas a couple of winters ago went through the ordeal of being DFA'd by the Twins, claimed by the Reds, DFA'd immediately, reclaimed by the Twins, and DFA'd again. Is there a mutual understanding between the players, agents, and executives that they're being DFA'd again after they are claimed?

    We as fans can only go off public information out there. His past history wasn't good. At a crossroads in his career. With the new pitch mix and cutter thrown 35% of the time we can pretty much toss his past performance in the garbage. He's a completely different pitcher.

    Who's doubting him now? Fans that were disappointed in the signing this winter (myself included) had no way of knowing he was going to transform into a new pitcher. We should be thankful he worked with Johan in spring training to master the new pitch.

    Not sure about this. I guess the Twins could get international bonus money (the new PTBNL) or another flawed player without options like Tyler Austin.

    I'm right there with you Nick. The only thing I care about during his rehab stint is velocity readings. Getting AAA hitters out shouldn't be much of a challenge for an 8 year MLB vet... I don't think his outcome is a good indicator whether he's ready or not. If the velocity doesn't come back, I'm afraid we have another Phil Hughes situation. Reed's secondary offerings aren't good enough to overcome a straight 90 MPH fastball.

    Adrianza is hitting 66.67% of his body weight right now. Why is he worth protecting? He needs to hit, quickly, or he's gone.

    A telling tale for Reed is his velocity numbers. Any tweet/report showing how fast he's throwing?

    Concur. He's broken now, probably for good. The only way I'd want him back is if he gained the 2 MPH he lost last season.

    Isn't that why we signed Marwin? So he can be the solution to whatever injury/lack of production comes up over the season?

    Congrats on the staff for transforming Perez into a new pitcher... Kudos to Perez for mastering a new pitch and trusting to throw it almost 40% of the time. He's certainly extended his career... If he keeps this up the option year in 2020 is a no brainier! Berrios needs a sidekick or 2 in the rotation. It could be him!

    These kind of changes are being implemented league wide. The cutter is the new sinker/slider, and pitchers are throwing way more non-fastballs than ever before. I'm happy the Twins are keeping up with the latest trends.     Yes, IMO. They're both rental players. Teams don't have to give up much for rentals anymore if the last couple of years is any indication.

    This is why I trade prospects for good MLB players 10 times out of 10. I'm certain people here thought the Astros overpaid for Cole... They got the last laugh. If you want to have more fun with past trades, look at how awful the Christian Yelich trade is for Miami now... And people also thought at the time the Marlins got a haul. Trade your prospects when you can. Laugh all the way to the bank when the established MLB player you receive is way better than any top 100 prospect you sent to the other team.

    A defining year for Sano's career, no doubt. He has to produce and be healthy the rest of the year upon his return. Otherwise why do the Twins continue to rely on him?

    Gerrit Cole is a very good pitcher. Still makes me sad the Twins didn't aggressively pursue him at the time.
