  1. Not sure how “not a professional” equates to “stupid.” I’m also not sure why a team would seek information on an internet message board when they pay people to gather that information firsthand. This is a weird argument.
  2. I have cooked many meals in my life. I am not a chef.
  3. My first instinct is always to trust the untrained opinions of amateurs when making multi-million dollar decisions.
  4. I don’t think anyone’s bubble is being burst. They didn’t sign him to be a key pitcher. Free agency hasn’t even started yet.
  5. Odorizzi improved by almost 2.0 fWAR and shaved almost a full run off his FIP. Berrios added 1.3 fWAR. Perez added 2.0 fWAR and shaved over a run off both his ERA and FIP. All of them got better. That’s probably not all on Wes Johnson, but he is a common denominator.
  6. Would you want people calling you a clown and a slug because you did your job to the best of your abilities? Posts like these add rot to Twins Daily. From a baseball perspective, I think this is fine. The season doesn’t start tomorrow. They have plenty of time to tweak some things and make a judgment. They built a very good bullpen last year, so I trust them. I highly doubt they’ll lose someone off the 40 man who will ever make a meaningful impact on a Major League roster (though don’t quote me on that).
  7. I’d like to see them re-sign Castro. I have no idea what terms he would demand. Is he okay backing up Garver again, or does he feel like he could start somewhere else? Should be interesting.
  8. I think they should keep things simple. Focus on the starting rotation, get another proven reliever, and then circle back to any remaining holes. I don’t think there’s very big chance they move Sano to first next season. There are just too many other priorities.
  9. Sano might be a little like Tony Batista—he has great range when it’s hit right at him.
  10. Polanco has a hard enough time making throws from shortstop. He won’t be playing third any time soon.
  11. They need to bring back Odorizzi and Pineda. They need to bring in a real frontline starter. I don’t particularly care who that is, exactly. If it’s a free agent, my preferences would be either Cole, Strasburg, Wheeler, or Bumgarner in that order. They could also trade one of their top end prospects—probably either Kirilloff or Larnach—as the centerpiece for an ace. Maybe Syndergaard talks will reignite in the off-season. Maybe the Phillies would be willing to deal Nola after their disappointing season. Maybe the Cubs would trade Kyle Hendricks to help restock their system. Just some ideas off the top of my head. Again, I don’t really care who they get, as long as it’s a guy with a track record and an unwavering desire to win. I’m not wild about a Berrios extension. He’s a good pitcher, but he seems like he gets way too cranked up even during early season games against crappy opponents. I’m not sure he has the proper mentality to be a big game pitcher.
  12. My guess is that Perez would make it before Harper. Seems like a reasonable list, though.
  13. Romo has been a Major League pitcher for 12 years. He might might stop fooling hitters by retiring.
  14. For what it’s worth, they took one out of three in Yankee stadium this year. One of their losses was shortened by rain. Then there was that excellent series at Target Field. They again won one out of three, but things could just as easily have gone the other way. Probably their toughest fought series all year.
  15. Thoughtful article. I think they should try and resign him, although I also think they should make a real run at Cole.
  16. You’re splitting hairs. The consensus was that he was a first round talent. Whether he’s 22nd or 13th isn’t all that meaningful, because players taken in that tier tend to be valued very close together.
  17. He was a late riser, but no one really considered him that much of a reach. MLB.com had him at 28 on their pre-draft rankings with a 50 overall grade. Their 18th prospect was the highest ranked 50 FV, to give some reference. Fangraphs had him at 22 on their draft board with a 45 FV. Langliers was their highest ranked 45 FV, coming in at 14. He was a consensus first round talent. I’m not sure where your information is coming from.
  18. I’m guessing you’re joking around, but this doesn’t make Cave a good outfielder.
  19. I’m a Cave detractor. He’s been hot lately, but my goodness he isn’t an everyday player. He might seriously be the worst defensive outfielder they’ve had since the Arica/Willingham days.
  20. Well then what’s weird is drawing the conclusion that it might be a good idea to get Cave more playing time.
  21. In Dyson’s defense, the home plate ump squeezed him out of at least one strike in the Kiner-Falefa at bat. That one should have ended in a strike out instead of a walk.
