The league is batting .235 with no runners on (Twins .245) & .256 with runners on (Twins .260). Still hard to expect too much better than 2-fer-10

Resetting Expectations for Carlos Correa

Some people just can't help patting themselves on the back, to the point they feel the need to say outrageous things like this. It's an odd sensation. -

Rocco letting him make a case. Can't wait to see how that's turned around on him if this fails. -
Because it's really easy to just voice complaints. If this team is seriously pushing for 90 wins while missing Correa and Ryan for ~2 months and Buxton for 3-4 weeks (3 of their 5 best players IMO) *someone* in the organization has to be doing a good job. The team simply can't be performing this well if Falvey and Levine and Rocco and the rest of the coaches stink and the owners are slashing payroll.

Seem to remember a certain poster being convinced that Festa was cooked after his 2nd start, and his "30 grade changeup" would never be an effective major league offering and that his stuff overall wasn't effective. He gives up a little to much hard contact from leaving pitches too middle-middle, but Festa has been really impressive this year. He's in the 70th percentile for whiffs, and a 41.7% rate on the changeup specifically is 13th out of 140 pitchers in MLB (150+ thrown). Since his 2nd callup on 7/24: 3.06 ERA, 3.23 FIP, 2.99 xFIP, 32.8% K rate

Sonny has really been struggling with hard contact recently, surely feels like some regression from his historic HR "prevention" last season. Which was great for the Twins tonight! 2 or 3 foul ball homers in addition to the bombs he gave up to Larnach tonight. A shame Texas couldn't keep from soiling their britches tonight.

Can't believe that this tired and demonstrably false narrative still has legs. He's said worse publicly about Marmol than he did about Rocco. Last season Sonny averaged 5.8 IP and 88 pitches per start. This season Sonny averages 5.9 IP and 88 pitches per start. He was just quoted talking about how this team handling pitching changed how he approached pitching and that it helped him a lot.

xFIP assumes every pitcher gets an average rate of 1 HR per 10 flyballs (10% HR/FB). Here are the homeruns Sonny has given up since the break. 7/20 - Marcel Ozuna 108.3 & 107.9 mph EV, Austin Riley 112.4 mph, Eddie Rosario 106.3 mph (all 4 were HR in either 29 or 30 parks in MLB) 8/1 - Seiya Suzuki 110 mph EV, HR in 30/30 parks 8/6 - Brandon Lowe 104.4 mph EV, HR in 30/30 parks 8/12 - Elly De La Cruz 102.2 mph EV (26/30), Spencer Steer 96.3 & 97.7 mph (HR in 12 & 19 parks) 8/18 - Shohei 113.5 mph EV, HR in 30/30 parks Maybe 1 of those HR is bad luck. He deserved the rest of 'em.

Average probably isn't a good metric to use when the Yankees and Dodgers exist, but I agree with the point that they're making more money than they're spending.

Oh sure, like how some places do "game power" vs "raw power". I agree Jenkins looks like he should be able to hit for power, but Emma is already there and his calling card is power. I think of it like Jenkins may end up with a higher SLG due to his much better hit tool, but Emma will have the higher ISO.

To my eye Max has been slowing down pretty significantly the last couple of years. There are a couple plays a week that I think 21' or '22 Kepler would have made, or extra bases that he's not confident in taking any more. He's gone from a very good fielder to just a solid one in these last 2 seasons. I'd put Wallner and his cannon in RF, let him get more experience to learn right in Target Field and then LF is open for whoever proves themselves or pitching matchups. Wallner won't be nearly as good as prime Kepler was, but he's faster than you think from looking at him and it's always good to have a great arm in right.

That they have the same grade is surprising to me. I'd put Emma solidly above Jenkins in that department.

Like I said, it's a nothing burger of a move to replace a guy at the bottom of the pecking order who'd clearly run out of his early season luck. They didn't want Staumont any more and it cost nothing to get Richards. Lot of ground between upgrade & optics, not sure why this has to be that black-and-white.

Per BaseballSavant, he's averaged 16.6 inches of arm side movement. For reference, Bailey Ober's changeup has averaged 16.9 inches of arm side movement this year. 16.6 inches would put him around the 85th percentile in all of MLB.

And Carson McCusker! Always thought him and Payton Eeles were a great pair of Indy ball signings to show that any body type can work in baseball.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding this article as highlighting the prospects with the best of each tool but surely Emmanuel Rodriguez has the best power tool in the system, right? Speed is always the most exciting tool for me. DeBarge has had a slower go of it that I would have hoped of a college bat in Fort Meyers (in an extremely small sample size), but the 10 walks and 11 steals to 1 caught stealing in 13 games is great to see.
