  1. That was a wicked curve for strike three!
  2. In July, the Twins were a fantastic, awe inspiring 14-13. Overall, they were 49-57 at the trade deadline. The AL Wild Card teams will each have close to 100 wins and Cleveland will likely have 92+.
  3. There are fans, some on this site, who constantly rag on Mauer every chance they get, even when the discussion has nothing to do with him. They also attack his character (which is supposed to be against site policy), not just his performance. In fact, even when he does well his performance is ignored or even worse ragged on because it's not often enough. At least one newer regular has spent years dogging Mauer all over the internet and bashing anyone who dares to say good things. Overall, on this site, every time an article is written in here that says good things about him, it's game on for bashing. Yes, there are straight up Mauer haters. Have to be blind not to see it on this site alone, much less around the internet.
  4. Captain Caveman strikes again!
  5. Couldn't even get past the first half inning listening to the Twins broadcast. Bert just continuing to complain over and over about the opener strategy...
  6. so Mauer hits a grand slam and you still have to rag on the guy, attacking his character by saying all he cares about is his average? Incredible. For some on here, it doesn't matter what the guy does, they just have to take shots.
  7. I believe the '87 Twins are the only team to win the W series with a negative run differential in the regular season.
  8. You know what's incredible? To think of how awesome Trout has been for so long...then realize he just turned 27 last month. Buxton will be 25 going into next season...
  9. the problem comes up when the team decides to pay him a big money contract in the off-season due to one good season in the last three and the clock strikes midnight next year. Will the new FO repeat the mistake Ryan made with Phil Hughes?
  10. Angels aren't terrible, nor were they last year. They are one game below .500 in a buzz saw division. I'm not sure this team trades for Simmons who is owed an average of 14M the next two season. I love him though and I would love for that to happen.
  11. That McDonald's commercial was hilarious. You go, Grandma!
  12. Love this post! (Other than saying we drafted Mauer in '91 and Span in '92:-))
  13. where do you think he will be traded to?
  14. no what you said is that Mauer has been a drag on this whole team for years. What this team needs is the ability to draft and develop MLB starting pitching and position players who don't poop the bed when they get to the majors assuming they ever make it to the majors. Especially those players we draft very high up. Our starting pitching has been a joke for years. That is what drags and keeps this team down. Mauer has nothing to do with that stuff. When someone better can take his spot, his spot will be taken. Problem is, seems most just feel any HR guy is better (and in SSS) while discarding defense, obp and ability to hit with RISP. Sure, there are better options than Mauer out there. Not sure we have them yet based on SSS from new players. Also not sure we will spend to get FA 1B that will significantly improve the position. We could put Sano there, but then we would need to replace his offense at 3B with a FA that will also cost a lot.
  15. In regular 9 inning games, a player has 4-5 PAs per game on offense (and remember even the best players fail roughly 6-7 out of 10 PAs over the course of the season). That player also plays 8 or 9 half innings on defense. A guy like Buxton, who makes plays most can't, can have a serious effect in the outcome of the game. Stealing a HR, turning doubles and triples into outs with his blazing speed. Catching a ball no one else would catch for out #3 making it so the guys on 2B and 3B don't score. The truly special defenders in this game are real game changers with their D. Their defense counts for a larger portion of their game than most defenders.
  16. even though I live in Utah, Rockies and Arizona are blacked out on MLB.TV. but I get them on RSN. And this is the first year I have ever watched more Rockies (my favorite NL team) than Twins.
  17. when tickets went on sale, I bought Rockies home tickets for their final series of the season against the Nats thinking these games will have real playoff consequences. Really hoping I feel well enough to go, cause I think it will come down to the very end with them.
  18. Colorado leads the NL West by 1.5 games with 23 games left. The odds given they make the playoffs are, well, odd. Anyone know the odds Vegas is giving right now on winning the NL West?
  19. Yeah, I'm sure once Mauer is gone, this team will turn right around.
  20. yeah, I really enjoyed Jack Ryan.
  21. Wait, we allowed six earned runs this game and a reliever DIDN'T start the game? :-)
  22. Yeah, Joe doesn't care about the Twins if he chose to stay with the Twins instead of being traded. Concrete reasoning. Some will stop at nothing to take shots at him. I love how it's okay to attack HIS character too. I thought that wasn't allowed here.
