  1. Fox is not a news organization. They are an extension of the WH PR team. I wouldn't be surprised if they coordinated their news with people in the WH staff or even the Toddler-in-Chief directly. And I'm not kidding.
  2. yeah, unbelievable...yet, with Fox...believable...
  3. In regards to Trout (or ANY one player) it's silly to think one guy can carry a baseball team. He doesn't pitch, he only plays one position (can't play other players position), and he is one of 9 batters (and likely close to 15 or 16 batters throughout the year) A team will likely use close to 40 players a season if not more. Baseball isn't basketball. Most of the time, baseball is about individual battles. One guy, no matter what myths are out there, doesn't get his team to playoffs or go far in playoffs.
  4. well, there's great and then there's what Buxton is. If HE is the barometer, there's might only be one great CF in the game :-) Remember when KC had Cain and Dyson available for CF?
  5. Cave is relatively inexperienced, his judgement will get better. He has the ability to be a great defender.
  6. All defenders, even the very best ones, make bad judgments on plays. Hunter was a GREAT CF for us and at least twice during the playoffs, he made HUGE errors in judgment on balls he thought he could get to and couldn't. And Hunter had WAY more experienced when those plays happened than Cave is now. Didn't mean Hunter wasn't great in CF with us, just meant he made some bad calls. Never been a perfect defender.
  7. Kepler is going to jack this one out edit: Ooops ;-)
  8. See, that's the kind of play that is GREAT when Cave makes it but he gets hammered when he doesn't.
  9. There are times when it is really hard to watch this team. Might be time to stop my yearly ML:B subscription to extra innings.
  10. The only thing we know for sure is that the FO kept him on the team.
  11. We'll see how he does going forward. He has less than 100 games played in the majors over 3 years. He only had 310 PA going into today. He gets on base less than 30% of the time.
  12. Wait, are you saying Mauer isn't as good of a 1B as Austin or Garver? I can see where moving Sano to 1B makes sense (assuming we can get a ood 3B) And I can see where moving Kepler to 1B makes sense (if we can figure out our OF). But Austin and Garver? Based on what?
  13. It's interesting to me how some people are praising Gibson's pitching this year and some people are dogging Odorizzi for his. Gibson's FIP this year is 4.05, Odo's is 4.15. Gibson has been worth 2.3 fWAR, Odo is at 2.2 fWAR. Odo has more K/9 and less BB/9. Gibson's biggest advantage is he goes am inning more in games (which is obviously of value). I'm not sure too many teams would trade that much for Gibby. He was horrible in 2016 and 2017 and while he's certainly been better this year no doubt, he's still not been so good he can command a large amount once he gets to FA unless he REALLY improves on THIS year. If he goes to FA, team's will see a guy who is 32, with no consistent history of being even ok, much less good. His biggest chance for a nice contract is with us.
  14. I still can't believe we didn't claim Fiers.
  15. As are you. It's a friendly discussion, nothing more. Our discussion won't have any effect of whether they sign him or not. And, personally, I'm fine either way. Part of me wants him to retire so he doesn't get another concussion and so the constant slamming of him slows down. The other part of me wants him to be signed to annoy those who do it If the Twins actually get a better option, that would be ideal. I doubt they will.
  16. It's just like players want to play all the time, the manager decides who plays. Like when Punto got WAY more starts than he probably should have had, that was on Gardy. Can't blame Punto for playing so much.
  17. The manager can advocate for a player all they want but the overall decision lies with the FO.
  18. Yeah, the only part of the quote that is true is he has a negative bWAR. And it needs to be put in context with other 1Bs.Anyone have the list of 1B dWAR for 2018 so we can compare 1Bs? Are there any 1Bs with a positive dWAR? The highest dWAR is like 3.4 with Matt Chapman. Lindor is like 2.2. Paul Goldy has a -.03. Machado is like -1.4. I know the DEF stat at Fangraphs, which compares defense of all players to each other (as opposed to their own position) ALL 1Bs are negative. Admittedly, I'm not someone who even likes oWAR, dWAR or bWAR from B-REF. I think Fangraphs does it better.
  19. A great man who lived a life of service and he never backed away from what was tough.
  20. I'm sure it has an effect, Levi, and it could be a decision based on what Molitor and the FO feel is best to keep him healthy. Absolutely sure that's a concern. But the overall point is when he is out there, he DOES have a positive effect on the defense, cause he IS a quality defender.
