    I absolutely LOVE what Gardenhire said about the Acuna beaning! My favorite parts: '“I hate that stuff,” he said. “It’s a nightmare. You could kill somebody. Just to open up (a game) like that? It’s ridiculous. Drill a guy because he’s hit a home run? Try to get him out. I thought it was blatant and ridiculous. Baseball has to handle that. That’s a joke, in my opinion.” and this: '“I would be mad enough, if I was their manager, I might start him tomorrow and lead him off just so they could smoke him — just because he did something so stupid,” Gardenhire said. “Throw at a kid like that just because he hit home runs? Come on.' Now, I wouldn't actually condone beaning someone in retaliation. I am opposed to beaning people on purpose no matter what, but the fact that even an old school manager like Gardy absolutely despised the beaning is great.

    For those who like ERA, he has an ERA under 3.00. His FIP is 3.88, but the kicker is, half his games are played at Coors Field. Another example of how the supposed experts, and people in general, are so quick to minimize Rockies batters' numbers no matter how great because of the Coors effect, but then completely disregard the Rockies starters even though the Rockies pitchers have the disadvantage of pitching at Coors.

    Well, to me it's not really surprising. And It's not just the BA. The OBP is over .500 and the slg % is over .600. Thing is, he only has 78 PA with RISP this year. BTW, which AL 1B has a higher BA w/RISP?

    yup, thought nothing of it. Victor was getting two and definitely wasn't going to 3B.

    I disagree. That was a hard shot, but it was very close to him. His side to side RANGE is his problem on defense. On balls hit really close to him he makes the play most of the time.

    well, IMO this is about how he pitched for us. Obviously the suspension was bad, but I was looking at his time on the field.

    His 2016 was very nice. IMO, his 2016 season was even better than his 2017 season (also nice). His 2015, after he came back, was nice too. He did well for us overall and was well worth his contract.

    If you believe the manager is involved in a decision to purposely bean a batter, maybe it's time to start suspending the manager too, instead of just the pitcher.

    one could say he failed society, the two people he killed, and himself even more than our legal system failed him. I have no sympathy for him.

    I like this post a lot. Sums my thoughts up too...other than expecting this team to be contending. I figured we'd lose more games this year than last year and miss the playoffs.

    Yup, just had my phone browser redirect me from this website to a website saying 'congratulations you won' with a spinning wheel and every time I close the browser and re-open, it happens right away. Have to be incredibly fast to access another site before it comes back up, making it practically impossible to use the browser. And this time I was hooked up to home wi fi so goodness knows what will happen now.

    I think it's possible to love the game the way it was played and analyzed when we were kids and yet be accepting that things evolve/change and and even embrace the fact that it does.

    'old school' isn't a pejorative unless one actively chooses it to be. What other way would you describe people who long for things (in this case, the game) the way it used to be? People have been wearing that old school phrase as a badge of honor since forever. Got all sorts of athletes proudly calling themselves that all over TV. It's simply a phrase used to describe people who like some things the way they used to be. And there is nothing inherently wrong with that considering when most people fell in love with the game. The good memories of falling in love with the game are tied to that time. As far as analytics not always getting it right? Sure. Of course not. Problem is, people will discard them completely until they are perfect (which likely never happens) while clinging on to old stats that are even farther from being perfect cause they are comfortable with those stats or just prefer the way it was back in the day.
