  1. Yeah, the Astros still have a very good farm system
  2. It's easy for Twins fans to fall back on that excuse. He's now playing in his 3rd different city in a year.
  3. Since I never for a moment thought we'd sign him, I'm glad it's over. I imagine the uninspiring Lynn will be heading our way. Or even less inspiring, Jaime Garcia.
  4. Get better starters and relegate some starters to backups. Bench is better.
  5. The defense behind Ervin in 2017 was the biggest contributor to his ERA. Overall, he was worse in 2017 than 2016.
  6. Hard pass on Tillman. If it's Tillman versus playing one of our youngsters, I'll take the youngster. I get a little tired of our SOP of signing people on the cheap we are hoping rebound.
  7. They had a .541 winning % in the 2nd half. A seasonal .541 winning % is like 87 or 88 wins.
  8. Cause right now he's the big fish. Not necessarily next year.
  9. As far as on the field performance goes, the two Twins players I enjoyed watching the most were Kirby Puckett and Johan Santana.
  10. Everything evolves. Baseball is no different. Some of the changes being suggested will barely be noticeable and not even be worth talking about after a couple years of implementation. I, personally, dont care about pace of play issues, but if making a few small changes speeds it up a tad and brings more fans to the game, I am all for it. Another thing that might bring more people to the game is marketing their young talent. Basdeball is horrible at this on the national level.
  11. The new series Bellevue is very good. More than once I got goosebumps from creepy scenes. Also enjoying the Alienist.
  12. And boy we have a great track record of doing that...one in the last 11 years or so.
  13. Darvish in his six years has produced 19 fWAR for 56M...and he missed one season. So he gave roughly 85M in surplus value (again, even with missing a year). He was a steal. And, btw it's funny people are ragging on a guy for his 2017 W Series appearance when he made 11M in 2017 which is relative peanuts in today's game . ANYWAY, is a 6 year contract bad if a pitcher makes, say, 22M a season and is worth: Year One: 30M Year Two: 28M Year Three: 25M Year Four: 18M Year Five: 16M Year Six: 13M Yeah, towards the end, it'll look bad, but the team still gets it's money's worth AND hopefully during our window of opportunity he's doing his best work (if you figure our window is now).
  14. Santana and a few others openly questioned management when they sold at the trade deadline in 2007 instead of buying. Selling at the deadline was an odd move considering they had won the division 4 out of the previous 5 seasons. He asked why should he stay if the team was always going to look to the future and not help the team when it was time. Nothing to do with the big stage and everything to do with Santana feeling like management was content to just compete for division titles.
  15. Chances are that three of them may not be doing anything with the Twins in 2019. Rodney (with his meager buyout), along with Hughes and Park. If Rodney works out in a reliever role, he could be a bargain for 2018 and 2019. The Hughes extension and Park signings were mistakes the new FO is going to have to deal with, though I thought I read Park left money on the table in order to leave. Anyway, I think the Reed signing is a very smart signing.
  16. so based on the WS games? Pitchers have bad games. He did awesome in NLDS and NLCS. Back in the offseason after '91, the Blue Jays probably said 'Wow, we need Jack Morris for the W Series. Lets get him' although they won the W Series,it certainly wasnt due to Morris' W Series performance, or his ALCS performance for that matter.
  17. um, KERSHAW? Sale? Kluber? Also, pitcher win totals shouldnt be the stat we are looking at when determining their value. On top of that, most FA players decline at the end of their FA contracts. Saying an FA wont be worth his yearly salary in the 5th and 6th year isnt particularly an unknown factor. Question is, how much will he be worth than his salary in the early years and will he be a key factor in the team taking the next step? Im also not sure we should sign Darvish. I worry about his health, myself. He has pitched 200 or more innings in one season. But he does give a quality 160-180 innings. I wouldn't go over 6/140 for him.
