  2. They should cut back to 152 regular season games and make the wild card game a 3 game series. I've heard rumblings that they are talking about taking away the divisions altogether and just having the teams with the best 5 records from each league make the playoffs.
  3. I tried to respond to this in a PM, but it seems you have blocked PMs from me (according to the system).
  4. Clearly the Twins DIDN'T give him every opportunity to start, because he did zero to lose his spot. They yanked him out of the rotation and slowed his development as a starter. This isn't a guy 21, 22 years old. He's already starter his prime years. IF, and that is a big IF, he's ever back in the rotation full time, they will have to baby him again with his innings. They have really messed up with him if the goal is to make him a quality starter.
  5. seems the only player in the game that should have the nickname Kaiser is Steven Souza.
  6. Yeah, except May was already striking out more than 7 per 9 as a starter (the most of any of our starters when demoted). He was already a K guy. Pelfrey is 88 out of 89 qualifying starter in Ks. The one guy behind him has one less start and 10 less innings pitched and he's only 3 behind him Pelfrey.
  7. I don't know why anyone would want Pelfrey in the pen. Guy can't strike people out. Don't we have enough of that in our bullpen?
  8. There should be a few more similar studies done. Like whether or not voters would vote for a person who doesn't believe in the Lochness Monster, Sasquatch, Psychics, and Santa Claus. Of course, there would have to be four different studies done. :-) Anyway, throughout history, a huge chunk of the very worst things done were done in the name of religion, or at least using religion as an excuse. Based on that, it's be funny that people who believe in a deity believe they can claim the moral high ground. And, really, if you need to believe in a deity (and I imagine his/her eternal wrath) to make you act moral, have to wonder how moral you really are to begin with.
  9. B Kenny takes about 2000% more abuse from former players and their sidekicks on MLB Network than he gives (especially the MLB Tonight cast). They constantly takes shot on him, unprovoked, without him even on set. At least Kenny says things to their face. and only when when they are praising things like the pitcher win/loss stat and RBI stats. And he does it in a much nicer way. It's like when a former player Daryll Hamilton, who worked for MLB Network, was murdered this year, B Kenny talked about how he was one of those former players who was always interested in what everyone had to say about the game. He talked about how Hamilton didn't think he was better than anyone else and he didn't assume only players knew about the game. He said that he was genuinely interested in hearing people's opinions and why they thought the way they did. Basically, the anti-Harold Reynolds.
  10. Are there still people in the world who think of the term geek as a negative? Obviously there are still people who like to try to belittle others by using labels like that, but smart is in nowadays, is it not?
  11. MLB Network and Fox Sports One have both done game broadcasts with a more advanced point of view and somehow, the game was still fun to watch, the conversation still witty and informative without being bogged down.
  12. Most Fantasy sites use the most basic of offensive stats and defense is mostly ignored (except for the good old error stat). Compared to other 1Bs, overall, Mauer is well below average. No doubt about that. There are some good points (how he does with RISP, with men on, etc), but his overall dropoff is big. 24th out of 29 with 1Bs that have 300 or more PAs. Even if he was still at catcher, the OPS he has put up would rank him 13.(250 or more PAs).
  13. I think when people say they would give away 69M, they are only kidding themselves.
  14. Fangraphs is a daily read for me. The articles, the chats, etc.
  15. Target Field isn't an extreme pitcher's park at all and certainly isn't a HR suppressor for right handed batters.
  16. Because it's what everyone understands. It's simple. Doesn't require much thinking, if any at all. Doesn't matter if it actually tell us anything of value. It's what our fathers told us, and what their fathers told them, and so on. Plus, most announcers have been around quite some time and it's what they know. Even worse, though, is how often they get even the simple stats completely wrong. Dick and Bert do it all the time. Why bother to dig further or even do any research? I was watching MLB Network this morning and Altuve was on. One of the hosts was talking to Altuve and complimenting him on how he has had multiple seasons of 200 or more hits. He hasn't. I knew that before even looking it up, but I verified and yup, one time. He hasn't really come close to a second time. I'm sure Altuve knows he hasn't had more than one season with that many hits.
  17. reminds me a lot of Hunter during his first go around with us.
  18. I think Torii will want a going away tour season. I think if he were going to retire after this season by choice, he would have announced it before the season started And I think he goes to TV whenever he does retire.
  19. KC is listed as 100%. Think about it. If they play all the way down to 50% for the rest of the season (and that'd be a good size drop since for the first 122 they played at 60%), they will still have 94 wins. Twins would have to go 32-8 just to tie. Probably why they are listed at 100% (which is a roundup it seems since the division is 99.8 and the WC is 0.1).
  20. 'Postseason probabilities are courtesy of Baseball Prospectus and indicate each team's probability of winning the division or wild card, or any postseason berth. Probabilities are based on thousands of Monte Carlo simulations of the remaining season schedule incorporating each team's year-to-date run differential, current roster composition, playing time projections and remaining schedule.' So certainly not some youngsters winging it.
  21. Mauer, for his career, has provided 272.5M worth of on-field value. That's before what he's been worth to the team otherwise. When he finishes this contract, he still wont have been paid close to that. Was anyone upset he was getting paid so little (relative to value)when he was providing 30M+ and 40M+ value and he was getting paid like 6-10M?
  22. I was always high on Turner. I was hoping that if we were going middle IF, it should have been Turner. Look forward to seeing how he does in the same way I wanted Brandon Crawford, who took awhile in the majors to become a very good one.
  23. I have no doubt I'd like that more than Dick and Bert. By like 200 times more. At least it'd be intelligent.
  24. LOVE Camden Yards. Fantastic park.
