Yes, that is the object. And he would have easily been at 1B if it dropped. Apparently what he should have done is sprint all the way and then if the ball dropped, he could have been thrown out at 2nd or caught in a rundown. Then people would be talking about how it was a dumb baseball play :-)

Mauer is also one of the smartest baserunners in the game. Not base stealing but taking the extra base by knowing what he's doing out there. And, you know, most guys who played catcher for a huge chunk aren't great base stealers, nor are too many 1Bs.

The Indians' rotation FIP is 2nd in the AL, while the Twins is 8th. The Indians rotation is also 3rd in IP while the Twins are 10th. The Indians rotation also K'd more per 9IP than any team in the AL while the Twins are 13th in K/9 IP. Indians rotation is clearly better than the Twins.

We don't know that. He dropped all the way down to 0.1 before this month, he could easily drop back down. Even so, between 0-1 is scrub level. And one would have to be able to show for sure how his leadership contributed to wins as opposed to just enjoying the narrative that was laid out and has been held onto. How much did Dozier's leadership contribute? Do we add to his WAR too? What about Perkins or any of the other leaders on this team? How about Molitor's?

I don't think it has to come down to just two choices: playing the young guys with no other options or signing a guy who will be 41 next year as a fall back option. Certainly there are younger fall back positions that could be had. There are other FA options and trade options. Additionally, if Hunter got the no trade clause for the current contract, do you think he'd relinquish that when negotiating for a new contract?

I think if we re-sign him it would be just as bad of a decision as re-signing Pelfrey. Especially since the Pelfrey re-signing hindered the development of at least one starter (May), just like re-signing Hunter would hinder the development of young OFs (take your pick). He's been a below average hitting RF, a below average fielding RF, and he'll be 41 during next season. Time for the young guys to get their shot.

Hunter has given us a 0.6 WAR for the season. Whatever he's added to the winning he also has subtracted in the losing. 0-1 WAR is in the scrub category of production. That's horrible. Is that the expectation you had that he's lived up to? We should applaud the signing and give Ryan a pat on the back? And why does his age matter one bit? Oh, he played okay for an old guy? Is that what the expectations should be? Or should we compare him to, you know, other starters at his position? Terry Ryan was not right about this signing, regardless of the narrative so many cling to in the absence of actual overall production. He was a 0.0 WAR player and 39 in 2014. Then we sign him for 10.5M AND give him a no trade clause? At his age, we shouldn't have expected any kind of real bounce-back and by giving him the no trade clause we couldn't even take advantage of his good start and trade him.. Re-signing him SHOULD be completely ruled out. It won't be, but it should. So yes, I think that the Hunter signing was horrible like the Pelfrey one was, since both performed poorly in their one year signing, and I think if we re-sign him it would be just as bad of a decision as re-signing Pelfrey. Especially since the Pelfrey re-signing hindered the development of at least one starter (May), just like re-signing Hunter would hinder the development of young OFs (take your pick). If this hadn't been an ex-very good Twin player, but rather some old declining skilled player who had never played for us before, this probably wouldn't even be an argument for many. If that was the case, the signing would have been panned almost universally for the poor decision it was when it happened and now by all but the most dedicated people who give the benefit of all doubt to the FO.

The thought process was right, the execution was wrong.

Even if one could name five, they would then need to name the huge number of pitchers who never developed it. The Randy Johnsons of the world are extremely rare. He's an inner circle HOFer. Getting Alex Meyer was a mistake.

Hardy has a great arm, not sure Escobar's arm is better and when Hardy won his GGs his RZR (the stat that measures range) was .833, .802 and .820. Escobar's RZR this year is .794. Hardy also has had great UZRs. Escobar is at 1.0 and was at 2.1 last year. Then there's the huge difference in DRS. He's not anywhere near what Hardy was defensively when he won his GGs or this year or earlier in his career. Having said that, if Escobar keep playing like this, he deserves to continue to be a starter for sure.

That's kind of how I feel about Serena. It's why I've liked Venus for quite some time (her not being an ass) but have never been a fan of Serena. My mom has always been a big fan of Serena though, but she roots for all American tennis players.

this is clearly true, considering Suzuki is/was our starter to begin with. The depth at catcher was bad to begin with and started with him being our starter.
